West or Simpson yes, but don't you dare mention the third bloke's name. Even Wood could destroy him in the ruck.

Blake's ruckwork is good. It's what he does around the ground, or lack thereof, which is the problem.

Jolly will need to be managed for the rest of his career i feel. Play 15 games a year for the next 3 or 4 years (if he still remains the number one choice) and make sure he peaks for finals.

Just get ****ing fit! FFS!

Seriously, why couldn't Hine and Co go over to Africa, poach an 8 footer and stick'em into a scholarship thing?

Perhaps even 5th behind Simpson? my point is, blake hasnt shown to be anywhere near 1st ruck ability. This isnt new news to anyone, and in fact if another club who had needed a number 1 ruck in the past few years i.e hawthorn/richmond/bulldogs (now that hudson has retired), hasnt been all that interested in Blake then why should we give him a second glance?

There are better, more talented ruckmen out there with more upside than Blake, and we have one of them currently on our list in Cam Wood

He has shown 1st ruck ability. He played as our #1 ruck for large part of the 2009 and 2010 season and needs 1 more game to have played 100 games for the Cats. There aren't too many better tap ruck men out there, there aren't too many ruck men who are worse around the ground though, and this is what has kept Blake out of the side since Scott has taken over the reins. If you're after a ruck man that's going to give your on-ballers first chance at the ball at stoppages then Blake would be a good choice, if you're after a ruck man that's going to be useful as a link up player or crash packs in your forward line then look somewhere else :)

If Jolly does retire tonight which i highly doubt... i would go and get Griffin.

We won't be picking crap like Blake so don't even bring it up, this isn't collingwood of the 90s.

My scroatum is itchy.

Back to thread:

Jolly will be able to play next year, surely, We may just have to manage him in a similar way to how Geelong managed Ottens this year.

He'll be the 'female' rotation. 3 weeks on, 1 week off.

I certainly appreciate your opinion and that youd probably know more about blake than what i do, but what you just described was a two years older version of cam wood. and if we're looking for a backup to wood (assuming the jolly retirement), it would be someone who could play a leigh brown type role and be effective in multiple areas of the ground as well as some ruck duties.

Griffin is the better option

Seaby is a good idea, not getting a run at the swans, Mumford is way ahead of him. He should come cheap.

We are screwed if Jolly retires or goes down next year.

RUMOUR IS DEAD.

Jolly just said on the live stream he pulled up a little sore, no off season surgery and he is looking forward to next year.

END THREAD.:)

Not to mention 2-3 more years, with Witts following him....GO JOLLY!:thumbsu:

What 'live stream'?
'Pulled up sore' = semi-immobile.
'No off season surgery' = a degenerative condition about which he can do nothing i.e. his knee is ****ed..
'Looking forward to next year' = this year has been shit.

For all the Doubting Thomases out there in BF land.

Actually he pumped Wood up, said that if he can develop his goal kicking he could fill the gap left by Leroy easily
Yeah, I actually thought he may have given us a suggestion about what is planned for Wood.

A great crying shame we chucked our first round draft pick away for an Irish man who walked out on us... FFS

Jolly had nothing to do with us making a GF this year and he had even less to do with us being a quarter away from the Flag.
No need to panic.

exactly. i'm not sure what all the panic is about. jolly wasn't a factor in 2011 and we went 20-2 during the h&a and were overrun in the last 25 mins of one of the greatest GF's of all time. we actually played our best footy this year with wood in the side - the continual lack of faith in this bloke astounds me, with some even suggesting he is trade bait. he will be our no. 1 ruckman come sept 2012 and people will be talking about him as one of the surprises of 2012. bookmark it

Lets not forget Jolly said he was right to play the GF and it took Ottens all of about 5 seconds to debunk that myth.

I haven't seen much of Wood, but if he's not up to carrying the #1 spot if Jolly goes down (which lets face it is a real possibility) it'd be in your best interest to pick up a decent back up ruckman just for insurance purposes. You'd do far worse than Seaby as a backup ruck. The only reason he can't get a game for Sydney is because Mumford's such a gun. Seaby's a serviceable #1 ruckman, who can do a bit around the ground, take marks etc. But is relatively useless as a backup/2nd option ruckman. He'd come cheap as well as Sydney would want to do the right thing by him and trade him for more opportunity.

Hopefully you are not his manager.

As said once before, if Wood is our No. 1 ruckman now or in 12 months time, the club is really taking the wrong direction.

Scenario, we are the number one/slash two club in the league. We place Wood on the open market. Honestly and be brutally honest, how many clubs (besides GWS and the other) would even consider him?

There would be a couple of clubs, mainly the Tiges but no one would give what we would want or what he is worth to our team, as we don't have a ready made back up. He is not completely useless.

PS: I have no love for this man! (Quite the reverse) Just sayin.
