Most of us just want to get him as cheaply as possible. Getting revenge for Tippett won't be a factor whatsoever.

I think a deal will get done, but won't involve pick 4. Pick 23 + take your pick out of: Frampton/Jake Kelly compo/future 3rd round pick would be my bet.
Kelly is off to Essendon. 23 and Frampton is about right.

It would be an absolute incompetence if Adelaide FC did not use our position in the PSD and the cap room to drive down the trade price for Dawson.

I think the deal will likely get done centred around pick 23. Personally, I would be ruthless like we were last year with Hately.

We have pick 4 in the PSD. We have huge cap room. For anyone to get Dawson in the PSD, they have to match exact terms of the deal. We structure the deal in a way where he gets paid $1M+ in his first season of the deal and teams above us in the PSD do not contemplate drafting him. Carlton did the same thing with Martin and Swans with Tippett to a degree.

The risk is absolutely minimal here. Why give up something when you don't need to? You can get a bloody good player in the draft with pick 23 so why give it up easily. There is not a great deal to be gained by doing that to be honest. Personally, PSD would be my #1 option but suspect that club will try and do the right thing.

What's the obsession with Tippet and it's link to Dawson? I mean, would it really make crows supporters feel better if they somehow got Dawson in PSD or low picks as a 'payback' for Tippet? It woudn't change what's happened with Tippet. There seems to be a bit of emotional baggage involved with Tippet and it's linked with Dawson for Crows supporters. It's fascinating if the Tippet stuff will play any part in the Dawson negotiations.

Thanks for providing a reason to my question!
No link to Dawson, the link is to Sydney.
He just happens to be the player that wants out.

Hmm, I was really confident of this but searching for a source I can't find one.

It's possible I'm misremembering I suppose. my bad.
Thought I remembered the same thing,
Found this and it says they wouldn't consider sitting out a year.

No. I just think when discussing a players worth in draft picks it makes sense to look at the history of the players taken at a similar number in the draft.

I usually do a quick check each season of the draft picks my club has in the draft to see what kind of quality we "might" expect to draft with that pick.

If there's a better way of working it out I'm all ears.

Instead of selecting an arbitrary draft pick and comparing the players selected at that pick to gauge a current players worth, wouldn't it be more productive to compare similar out of contract players who want out and look what their club received for trading them out?

I did. That's why I said pick 23 would be about right for the current situation.

To be honest though if I were the crows I'd even be holding out on pick 23. If Dawson goes through the PSD it's almost certain he'd end up at Adelaide so any trade that gets done is basically going to be a good will thing between the 2 teams.

It wouldnt surprise me if the Crows have a starting point of Pick 37, then offered Pick 23.

If we start at Pick 23, Swans will probably ask for more.

Everything being considered, I think Pick 23 is fair.

Didn't we start at around that pick for Hately? I don't think we'd disrespect Dawson's value that much

Agreed. I think we'll start at 23 and steak knives (2nd round upgrade or similar) before settling on 23.

I expect many of my own teams supporters will be surprised and sorely disappointed but that's just how these things go. Sometimes your team's on the winning side of these situations and sometimes you're on the losing side.

In a perfect world, the Swans needed Port to be an option to establish an auction between the two SA Clubs.

Fortunately the Crows is viewed as a destination Club. :$

Yeah I was really hoping (and actually thought he would) either elect Port or say he had no preference for either club. Him selecting Adelaide as his preferred destination was the worst possible outcome for us.

If this season was anything to go by he's going to be a hell of a player for you.

First meeting offer pick 37.

What the player quality is doesn't matter. It's all about the value of that player, not their skills directly.
This is a transaction and the two parties will decide a value according to the power each party has in the transaction.

We're all aware that Sydney is in the same position today as we were in the Tippett trade. The circumstances of the two trades matter not as it's just about the power of the respective parties and the best value each can gain from the transaction.

In a perfect world we would try and find a win/win outcome. In this trade however, there is all likelihood of a winner and a loser. Just as you played the Tippett trade, Adelaide will play the Dawson trade. It's not clubs trying to be b******s to each other, it's simply clubs seeking maximum value and working their respective power in each trade.
No hard feelings towards you or Sydney...just the law of the jungle.

Depending on what draft the steak knives are in, I could see Adelaide jumping at it. For instance 23 + 37.

Losing players involuntarily leaves scars.

Gut feel is that we'll try and make the sweetener either a 2022 3rd or a 2022 pick swap
Why TF do we need to add a sweetener? Pick 23 is the absolute maximum I would be willing to offer - ideally less. I still maintain my preferred option is 23 + Frampton, with Frampton acting as the "sourer".

We don't, however, I don't picture us putting up any resistance if Sydney angled for Melbourne 2nd round pick.
