Good post, sums it up pretty wellDawson leaving has nothing to do with cap. He wants to come back to SA to be closer to family and start a family here. If he wanted to live in Sydney and play for the swans he would have stayed. His decision has nothing to do with money as we have basically offered around the same amount as Sydney. A massive loss is losing Dangerfield, Cameron, Lever, when you are in a premiership window. From my recollection the only players that have left your club is Jones and Allir that I can recollect.
The crows are willing to give Sydney fair value but they aren't going to be bent over by unrealistic demands. We can only give up what we have. I said from the beginning that 23 and an exchange of 2022 2nd's was fair value or alternatively the other option is 23 and a player. There may be a player that is willing to move to Sydney that may suit your needs. Pushing for pick 4 just isn't going to happen. You were fine with pick 34 for Allir Allir who is just as good as Dawson and also fine with a around pick 35 for Jones. If the swans push for a deal which isn't realistic you will likely end up with nothing. Just as Charlie Cameron wasn't coming back to the Crows, Dawson isn't coming back to the Swans. Generally a deal takes place when both clubs are disappointed with the result. It's called compromise.
If Dawson was on the fence about whether he stayed with the Swans or took the deal with the Crows, he would've taken the 50k less from the contending Swans straight up. Reality is, he wants to live in SA, he wants to be a Crow, and a relatively fair trade will be agreed upon eventually
