I’m struggling to understand how JDG has enhanced his reputation. Putting the off field stuff to one side his stats are not that special. Averaging 17 disposals at less than a goal a game.

I think many people in the football world see his impact for 17 disposals and his potential to be a high impact 25-30 disposal per game player.

That's certainly more than can be said for top 5 picks like Boyd, McCartin, Brayshaw, Pickett, Schache, O'Rourke, Toumpas, etc, etc.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you 201cm/97kg 20 year old, Ben McKay.

He'd already be in our senior side if it wasn't for R. Tarrant.

McKay and your first pick sounds about right.

That's a bit disingenuous since his first year takes the average down. Last year he was a 19 possession one goal a game player which is pretty good when you consider he spends most of his time up forward. Plus there is the impact of possessions, he's not a Josh Smith stat hog he actually does something with the ball. Then there's the two games in he stared in against Hawthorn and West Coast. Those two games alone enhance his repution alone plus he was solid every other game.

Pick 10-20 for De Goey would be a poor result.
He only played 14 games last year. Don’t get me wrong, I like him as a player, but I don’t think we should pay over $450k.

Unfortunately he's worth his demand.

His manager has probably dropped our name to drag better coin out of Collingwood.

Just pay him whatever he wants and make it a long contract, will work out unders in the long run.

Who is JDG's Manager?

If he moves him from Collingwood to a club like the Saints then he would be doing his client a huge disservice.

- off field discretion = JDG value goes up as he isn't playing and pies look terrible
- club shows interest = JDG value goes up as now he is apparently the next Dusty Martin

If he was punching out consistent matches where he is changing games , pay him more. However let some other club be fooled by his potential as he has shown nothing more than other players on our list. If we want to be real , one more off field incident and he is finished. Trade him whilst we can

I think you're all jumping at shadows, really. The article just said that St Kilda has an interest in him,as does a number of clubs. It was a bit of a nothing article, really, just based on speculation.I'm sure Collingwood knows how important a player he is to us,and will do everything it can to re-sign him sometime during the season.

Why? Do you think we have enough space in the cap to squeeze TNT in too?

Yes I do.

Losing JDG and gaining Lynch is a nil all draw IMO.

Sounds like what was said about Martin around the same age...

The issue is people use the Martin of now to compare to Degoey at 21/22 rather then Martin of 21

Degoey is the young player who most excites me. Yet here you are ... so negative. So pessimistic. !!
We have 3 young players of special potential.. Degoey is one of them. If we traded him for anything less than a top 4 pick plus or 2 first rounders we'd be stupid, if we drove him to seek a trade for the sake of $50K we'd be stupid. Hopefully the club focuses on the prize we seek and doesn't let his behaviour issues cloud their judgement as much as you have.

It’s not pessimistic at all. Why on earth would we pay overs to keep a mid/forward who has yet to play consistently?

Numbers are remarkably close, Degoey missed a chunk of the start of the year had he not he likely would of had even better numbers.

Are you sure this is actually as close as you think it is? Martin has him covered in a lot of important areas from a 42% greater sample size. Across the board that would translate to quite a meaningful difference. Those numbers are comparable but Martin was clearly better

If de Goey stays fit then I'm backing him to take his game to the next level this season and we'll happily pay him what is required.

Personally I think we've only scratched the surface of his talent thus far and alongside Moore he clearly has the ability to be one of the best handful from the 2014 draft and become a powerful goal kicking midfielder/half forward.

If he wishes to leave or the club is still not happy with his lifestyle choices then a top 5 pick in this years draft will be the starting price I would have thought.
