I don’t think we have the midfield depth to allow him to play that way. He is damaging but I think we need the extra possession first grunt mid to help us wrestle control.

Short term pain, long term gain. Need to give others opportunity to develop their skills in those roles.

Why would he sign up til he knows what offers might be coming? Players get 1 maybe 2 goes at "financial security"... If we can't match offers that come then JDG has some decisions to make. Going on about it at round 5 when its likely to be going til round 22 is a recipe for stress!

The club also has to be careful signing him too early for PR reasons (I know I know), but it’s reality.

They may already be in hot agreement but will wait a little longer to announce anything.

800/850K or we'll take 2 kids in the top 10.

Given all this and I totally agree, if the opportunity comes up and the Club is OK we should back him in and sign him up. I was happy to get rid of him during the US off field stuff but I honesty believe he’s coming good.

I don’t think he will ever be a role model for well adjusted adolescents but he plays football really well.

Would let him go if the deal terms of $/years is excessive.

He’s 27 as next season rolls around so he will want his ‘godfather’ deal to set him up. Let’s be honest, 5-6 years is what another club will need to offer him. If that’s the case let him walk and we go to the draft.

We aren’t winning one in the next couple of years while he’s in his prime.

Totally agree, if he's willing to play for our club's price then I'd gladly sign him up (though no longer than 4 years or I wouldn't be able to cope with all the griping from the BF haters....) But happy for JDG to keep playing for the Pies, for sure!

There will be BF whining no matter what happens. Although if he maintains current form and we do keep him, the puritans won’t be as vocal as they were over the Summer.

3 years at 700k, that's all we should offer him. If he want's a bigger contract then piss him off. Sick of paying overs at this club

It’s all Capology but… last year 44 players earned $700k+. Even his FireManager would know 700 is unders.

Tier 1 compo for him would likely be 1 first rounder. The odds of that pick being sufficient compo are small.

Yeah, if he can continue this form while sticking healthy, he's looking at a minimum of $850-900k. He's been one of the dominant players in the competition this season.

Which is what he's teased for years!

Look, I'm not a puritan but I just expect athletes in their 20s who are earning hundreds of thousands of dollars to be more virtuous and generally well-behaved than me, a mid-aged man on an average income.

Is that really too much to ask?

De Goey is worth more than Grundy or Moore in terms of match winning ability and x-factor. I don't see how he could be playing on less money than them.
Because of other concerns (namely, reliability).

He seems to have put those reliability concerns behind him. Seems very fit - touch wood - and sticking out of trouble. If he can turn into a 20+ game a year player at this level of play then he should be our highest paid.

Yes it is:)
