JR was good tonight - looked like a different player.

His marks stuck - his decision making was good, and his disposal was fantastic.

He also didn't seem as nervous (maybe given the amount of senior players we were missing).

Well done JR - keep that effort up into the real season!

JR was very good tonight.

He seemed to thrive on the extra responsibility he got as a result of having a lot of our better players out.
That's what I saw for the first time - leadership. You don't have it without some self-belief and that's what Rusty needs more than anything. This was a great step up.

I agree Russell played very well last night, and it was great to see...

however i still believe he should have limited opportunities in our best 22 purely because we now have better options than him in terms of small forwards, (Garlett was very impressive playing that small forward role last night.)

If Russell can strings some games like last night together then i think he may be able to challenge for a spot in our midfield rotation, where he is probably best suited, but he must continue to play to the level we saw last night. His ball winning ability last night was something i had not previously seen from him, and this may be due to the fact that the onus to win the ball was put on him given our other ball winners weren't out there, and that may be the responsibilty he needed.

Well to call him a small forward is a bit of a stretch. He is 188cm and fairly solid now so IMO he is a lead up flanker or a defensive (that is tags oposition running half backs) hff. He can link from wing to the forward 50 very well. And can make his way through traffic, shake a tag and make position. He just needs to cure the yips.

His big and probably only mistake last year was not kicking goals. He has 25 shots for about 4 goals. If he kicked 15-20 goals last year his reputation would have been sealed. Last night he did show he is capable of running through the middle. If he can build on last night I am sure there will be a lot of egg on face for many posters here.

Whether he is part of our best 22, I dont know. We do have some great options now. If he is I for one will be stoked. If he isnt then so be it. Either way I think he silenced some critics last night.

He needs to be able to start kicking goals on the run, if he can get that part of his game up to scratch i feel he might push Carrazzo out of the side.

Subby, if The Captain can be a selector, would you like to be

But the rest of you guys can think of me as simply plain old Number 6

Hope we have not side-tracked this thread :)

He did have a pretty good game against Geelong. However 1 pre-season game does not make a season nor a career. I'm reserving judgment for the first 12 rounds?

Oh and when did he have a tag for you to be able to know that he can shake one?

No 1 game does not a season make as I pointed out in my post, but you seem to be able to pick a few isolated mistakes and make a judgment about a players entire career. Nice selective reasoning.

And do I really have to answer you about shaking a tag? Do you know anything at all about football? Every player has a direct opponent. When the direct opponent has the pill you are responsible for him, you are his tag, ergo every player has a tag, some are called hard tags, that is the role of the tagger is not to be offensive and gather possessions themselves (but if they do it is a bonus) but to shadow their opponent the entire game and restrict them, such as the role Joseph had on Ablett, but others soft tags, that is stop the opponent but be damaging yourself.

So now that we have established that every player has his own tag, it would therefore follow that such player would need to shake that tag momentarily to be able to dispose of the pill under that little less pressure, now that is not to say that other players wont tackle you but they have to make a decision whether to come attack you and leave their direct opponent free momentarily, this is often enough time to make the disposal.

So yes every player has a tag and therefore has to shake that tag from time to time, even if only to go back to the tagger and tag them.

It's so damn funny how fickle some supporters really are. In fact, it's borderline Russell. I'm just waiting for the "I always supported Russell" comments.

So that would make Russell the epitome of fickle?

Which in turn would make you the only one still bagging him?

Way to not be fickle...
