System works well...
Unrestricted free agent Defender leaves - Compo pick 8
Contracted (3 years) Defender leaves - Trade Pick 16/17
Let’s not loose sight of the fact that battle is a gun and probably the best free agent to move in a while. Hawk have a gun, saints got fairly compensated. Everyone else eat a bag of d…..Battle is three years younger than Barass. He's also has no injury issues like Tom. Yes, Tom has a contract, but you're offering less money and less years than what Battle is receiving. Saints actually tried to outbid Hawks.
These picks are about right.
Let’s not loose sight of the fact that battle is a gun
pretty sure the AFL changed it so you can front load contracts to trigger band 1 compo anymore.
The compo pick is now calculated across the full length of the contract.
Gotta pay someone front ended so cap opens up when we need to resign Day/Newcombe and co.Talk about a lot of salary going into a shortish key defender .
Averages 14 touches. Never even registered a Brownlow vote in his career.

Getting quality players without expending any draft capital is always a bonus.
Saints probably get overs in terms of compensation and must have been line ball for band 1 and 2 (given that the Saints last minute deal was better) but I couldn't give a stuff. They're happy. We're happy. Battle's happy.
I think it's a situation where if you only look at the first 5 years it is 900, look at the 6 it's the 850 as reported.I thought the line was $900000?
Not sure where you’re getting that number from.Averages 14 touches. Never even registered a Brownlow vote in his career.
Directly after our first pick - which is 7 as it is band 1 compensationForgive me for the silly question here - but where did pick 8 come from?
I don't understand where the AFL get the compensation picks.
Pick after their first pick. Saints have pick 7Forgive me for the silly question here - but where did pick 8 come from?

You're really showing you have no idea or watched Battle or any other team, if you're using Brownlow votes as a means to assess players, let alone defensive key position players.
Everyone else gets pushed back 1 pick. No one loses their pickOK, but does that mean the pick 8 was taken off another club?
OK got it. Thanks mate.Everyone else gets pushed back 1 pick. No one loses their pick
OK, but does that mean the pick 8 was taken off another club?
3rd in the B&F as a defender for the 5th best defence in the comp.
Defenders don't poll very well.
Better than 5th defence in comp, given the Saints midfield.
It’s just another compromise in the league that this time your club has directly benefited.
Makes your president look like a fool.
