Naughton?

Membrey averaged the same amount of goals this year and we're only mildly interested in having him back.

System works well...
Unrestricted free agent Defender leaves - Compo pick 8
Contracted (3 years) Defender leaves - Trade Pick 16/17

Battle is three years younger than Barass. He's also has no injury issues like Tom. Yes, Tom has a contract, but you're offering less money and less years than what Battle is receiving. Saints actually tried to outbid Hawks.

These picks are about right.

Let’s not loose sight of the fact that battle is a gun and probably the best free agent to move in a while. Hawk have a gun, saints got fairly compensated. Everyone else eat a bag of d…..

Getting quality players without expending any draft capital is always a bonus.

Saints probably get overs in terms of compensation and must have been line ball for band 1 and 2 (given that the Saints last minute deal was better) but I couldn't give a stuff. They're happy. We're happy. Battle's happy.

pretty sure the AFL changed it so you can front load contracts to trigger band 1 compo anymore.

Hawks will not have done it though to deliberately trigger Band 1. Hawks will have done it to get Battle across the line.

Battle is not a RFA where you might argue that they would trigger a higher band so that St Kilda would not match and force a trade.

And there are no side-deals that may have come into it like the much discussed potential "Shiel -deal" last FA period.

Perryman was similar age and similar $$$$ and also generated Band 1.

The compo pick is now calculated across the full length of the contract.

No, just the first 5 years.

Averages 14 touches. Never even registered a Brownlow vote in his career.

3rd in the B&F as a defender for the 5th best defence in the comp.

Defenders don't poll very well.

Exactly. Hawthorn got their man, we got a great draft pick. Now we can all sit back and enjoy the melts.

Not sure where you’re getting that number from.

And unlike many who play key defence, his disposal efficiency isn’t really high because he’s constantly taking safe chip kicks to guys who can actually kick, his DE is very high because he’s a bloody good kick, on both feet.

Hawthorn are going to love having him and Sicily back there with their penetrating 55m+ precision kicking.

Better than 5th defence in comp, given the Saints midfield.

Just was purely going by the numbers but yeh it is a good dour defensive unit. Wilkie and Battle was a good 1 2 punch.
