Re: Kangaroos Player "walks out" on the club

first round draft pick is too much, pick 25 is not enough.

maybe something like pick 25 and dowler for gibson and pick 37?

just throwing something up, hawks already have roughy and buddy, north need a tall foward, and end up with 3 picks in the top 25.

Re: Kangaroos Player "walks out" on the club

Has this ever been done before? Sounds like the type of thing the AFL would have a problem with.
there is nothing stipulating how long a contract can be.
Gibson can ask for 1 Mill for his first year .

Hawks have the upper hand,
but have to be under the cap

North don't "have to" trade anything. Hawthorn want Gibson, so they'll have to offer a deal that's good enough, otherwise we let him go. Same situation as Stevens. If Melbourne, Richmond, Fremantle don't want him, then I guess we'll pick him up. I wouldn't have thought it'd be "awkward", O'Keefe seems to be doing fine at Sydney after wanting to be traded to the Hawks, and Harris asked to be traded last year from us, and has returned (albeit being shit)
Wouldn't rule out the possibility of North trading Gibson and a player like Harris or maybe downgrading our second rounder because lets face it, in a year where the draft pool is quite weak, and picks 20 and onwards are a crap shoot, we're better off making a statement and rejecting the Hawks second rounder

You could do that. Of course you realise you wont get another pick in the top 25 til 2013 at best. But feel free to throw one down the drain on principle.

Good luck to the North Melbourne Football Club dealing with Pelchen and the Hawthorn Football Club.

You'll need it. :thumbsu:

They will say they rate Gibson 27th on their list and therefor a fourth round draft selection will be appropriate.

Gonna be an interesting story during trade week.
That guy's a serial **** sucker to deal with.

He's wasted our time in 2 trade periods. Both times dangling Roughead, the first time it was pretty much done, then, last year he does it again with no intention of really dealing.

Let him walk to the first club who'll pay him if the Hawks don't cough up.

We wouldn't want a pick back, especially not that low. This seasons draft is pretty slim, which is why we'd be happy to trade picks.

However, Dowler is tall, a strong lead and a good shot on goal. He actually showed that he can play a bit toward the end of this season so it could be another potential trade.

Mitch Thorp/Beau Dowler + 2nd Round for Gibson?

Seems reasonable, Dowler and Thorp wouldn't get a gig in a full strength Hawks line up and they are both have potential to become good Forwards.

Re: Kangaroos Player "walks out" on the club

Do Kangaroos fans really think he's worth Pick 9?

Come on ...

It'll probably be a Pick 25 + fringe player, but i'm expecting an almighty shitfight during trade week. :D:thumbsu:

We warned there would be consequences for ****ing over clubs years ago, welcome to the consequences. When the premiership window is ajar, you can't afford to stuff around trying to develop your own KPPs, you can take the risk that developling clubs do and maybe you will find the players, maybe you wont.

If you don't then the dream ends prematurely.

North knows all the pressure is on the premiership hopeful of making trades to plug holes. There is no pressure on us to make a trade. If we don't get something we want then Gibbo can choose to re-sign or go to Melbourne, Richmond or Fremantle. Do you think he would want to take the punt in the PSD?

Either he gets traded or has to go in the pre season draft, if North refuse and get s**t all

North should/will just take pick 25. There's stubborn and there's stupid. No need to hurt your own club further. He's not worth pick 9, and the fact that he's walked out and nominated Hawthorn doesn't leave you with alot of options, apart from stupidity.

And you gain nothing...
North are going to lose the player regardless, if you think they'll take whatever you offer you are kidding yourself. Everyone knows you're desperate for defenders, everyone will charge over the odds for one. Believe it or not, no one wants to help Hawthorn at the trade table, least of all North

Then that is mystifying why a player would jump ship for a measly (in the circumstances) 270K.

I expected it to be an offer he can't refuse to straight-up walk out on the Kangas, but that's not the case if 270k is true.

Have you considered that he might have indentified the Hawks as a club that will be successful and that he will be a part of? I'm sure with his other ventures and endorsments he would be on over 500K a year anyway so i'm guessing he just wants to be part of a successful team and play in premierships. Not everybody is money hungry you know?

Haha look at these Hawk fans.

You dont have the upper hand.

I totally agree with the North poster. How exactly do the Hawks have the upper hand? If the Hawks cannot get the deal done he re-signs with the Roos, simple as that. Does anybody seriously think that he will potentially ruin his own career by agreeing to go to Melbourne, Richmond or Freo in the PSD just out of spite? Only way the Hawks have the upper hand in this situation is if they have a very earlypick in thge PSD which they don't.

Just look at how Sydney handles the O'keefe case last year. They said from the very beginning that they will not let him go for any less than they think he is worth and if clubs can't accept that he is free to go into the PSD, knowing that he wouldn't enter it. At the end of the day he re-signed.

North is in a win-win situation imo. They get a good deal for Gibson or he re-signs withh them.

Re: Kangaroos Player "walks out" on the club

That's my gut feeling, they will not accept less than what he's worth (in their eyes). To be honest the fact that Hawthorn is dangling a carrot in front of him says a lot about the value they are placing on a ready to go defensive player.

FWIW I think he's worth very close to that pick for a Hawthorn team that needs defensive players. They know they can be competitive elsewhere, if they really want him then something around that value will be what they the Hawks offer. The problem from our point of view will be the draft depth, North may see no value in a couple of picks around the 20's for example.

This is the identical argument that Carlton fans used when Bret Thornton wanted to leave for Hawthorn. They all said, "If you value him so much that you'll pay him $300k, then you can hand over your first pick for him" (we had draft selection number 6)

Bret Thornton was not worth a first rounder, as it's since been proven and Josh Gibson is not worth a first round pick. Just because Hawthorn needs a defender and one of North's defenders has walked out, it does not mean that he worth a 1st round pick,

Naturally, you want our pick 9. That's what all clubs say. It doesn't mean you'll get it.

Well I'll be, someone understands!!

Hawks will offer their 2nd round pick and North will take it.

North are Hawthorn's little bitch, what the Hawks say, North will do. Also North can't afford to lose a player for nothing, getting a 2nd round pick is better than nothing.

You could have said that 2-3 years ago, but not anymore. The whole footy department has changed since then and we have a new recruiter, talent manager and coach. You think we would make the same mistake twice?

Re: Josh gibson to hawthorn !!!!!

Roos should demand 2 top 20 picks, and remain silent in regards to any underlying physical/mental illnesses.

I assume the Hawks have made overtures to Gibson or he wouldn't have been so silly to nominate them. It is the Thornton situation revisited, except the Roos don't have the first PSD pick.

In the end it doesn't affect the Hawks too much. They either get a player or they get to play happy homewrecker.

Re: Kangaroos Player "walks out" on the club

Gibson can put a price on his head.
He could ask for 1 mill year if he wants to.
no club will pay that sunshine.

Then he gets drafted by Hawthorn and re- negotiates his contract.
All done.

bye bye

This sounds like draft tampering of the highest order.

I hardly think the AFL allow this sort of practise.

And where is Bret Thornton now?

Re: Kangaroos Player "walks out" on the club

Probably more around the mark, but really is there a need to be immature?

Wonder if Scott will try that?

"Hey Pelchen you ****, Pick 1 in the draft for Gibson or else you and the Dawks can get *****"

Have you seen him play on people he likes? :p

When it comes to Pelchen he is more likely to start with a close liner and with his foot on his throat let him know what he wants. :p

North Melbourne chief of football Donald McDonald confirmed the club was in negotiations with Gibson and his management but would not be drawn on speculation the out-of-contract 25-year-old was on the move.

"He's a required player and that's it," McDonald said.

Its not the same as Thornton.
He was ok with it if a trade could be made.
He didnt walk out on the club,

All Gibson has to do is nominate a high price in the PSD to scare off other clubs and then re-negotiate the contract.
Its simple.
North will have to take what they are given
