Coach Justin Longmuir Pt 2

David King. The man who placed bets on the rising Star award as a journalist. Same guy who is loving Adelaide’s coach Nicks for delivering 0 finals appearances in 5 years. So what is his position if Crows miss finals for the 8th year in a row? 2 year extension. He was the guy absolutely smashed Ned Guy for letting Grundy and Treloar go…. Which setup last years premiership.

Careful who is an analyst versus who actually knows what they’re doing.

Look forward to everyone agreeing with king tonight also agreeing with Cornes tomorrow morning.

King and Cornes get more things right than they get wrong.

King was a massive supporter of Fremantle during the Ross Lyon era and that's the only time in our clubs history that we've been relevant on the east coast. Before/after RTB we've been a joke and decisions like today add fuel to that opinion.

The extension is like the draft and all these reactions are like draft grades. Some people will think you nailed it and others will think you botched it. Hard to really know what this does except after the season is over. If we make finals and win a game or two then it was the right move. If we start the season 0-10, probably Will put even more pressure on the club.

I would have preferred that they didn’t sign him to an extension, but I guarantee you this will be on 0% of the players mind when the ball bounces on Sunday against Brisbane. I’ll reserve final judgment on this decision and make up my mind after round 23.

But one thing I WILL do is continue to not listen to anything that David King says about Freo.

Just my two cents.

From listening to those who have worked with JL over the years it sounds as though he has a very strong technical understanding of the game and a clear vision on how we should play.

However it appears to me as though there may be issues for the players implementing JL’s proposed strategy. Which may be down to communication issues or may be down to players inability to execute the plan.

Giving JL an extension gives him 2 more years to implement this strategy. After which time if the players still cannot execute then it might be time to move onto another option.

Don’t forget how close Tigers were to sacking Dimma right before there dynasty.

Let’s give JL time to make this team the best version of itself.

JLo is about to start his 5th season as a senior coach. If he can't get the message through now then nothing will change in the next 18 months.

We played in a Grand Final in Ross's 2nd season as coach.

If we win less than 10 games this year I'm requesting a trade if I'm Serong/Brayshaw/Darcy/Young/etc. Why commit to a club going no where?

Whilst I take your point keep in mind Ross walked into a team and inherited Pavlich, Sandilands, McPharlin, Mundy, Johnson, Barlow etc.

as well as our best young crop of players in the clubs history at that time.

It doesn’t change a lot for me really. He still has to win games and is under enormous pressure to do so from round 1 on.
If we have a stinker on Sunday against Brisbane and it snowballs into the north game, the vitriol from the fans and the media towards the club and JL will be immense.
I’ll be judging JL on what we see on the field this year. We saw tonight there are no easy games in this league - most had Richmond bottom 4 but they were still bloody decent.

And? Lyon took over a list at a point slightly more developed than this list now. This is a meaningless point to make.
You're arguing against yourself.

Justin gets this year because the list looks like it's getting close to challenging.

My general post about this:

Other posts about the game plan being there but the players not executing, this is typical of a list with the profile we had last year.

The answer here is simple. There is enough doubt to give JL the benefit. This decision tells everyone this story. He has credits in the bank and he has this year to show he can get his plan to work.

Everyone reckons that I'm some sycophant or eternal optimist, but I don't see it that way.
I have made no posts stating that I believe believe JL is 100% the right guy, but I have made many posts to counter arguments that he is not. Unfortunately some cannot tell the difference between not supporting position A and supporting position B.
There's a lot of people ITT who are certain he is a bust, but most just base this on how they feel without actually being able to back up their opinions with actual analysis.

We cannot know the future. Keeping JL is a risk, but so is dumping him. We could quite easily have an itchy trigger finger and dump JL right as he's about to enter on a three peat because he actually is a genius coach, but we were too impatient to wait for the players to be able to catch up to what he is building.

I believe that the players know something we don't. I've seen some great games from JL and other coaches have expressed shock at some of the moves he's made, particularly in game. He also happens to be an unusually young coach.

This decision will be forgotten in a few weeks. We should find out this season if JL is the guy. This takes away some of the distraction. I'm not sure I agree with it, I'm on board with Poshman's view, but it's been made and they'll either be geniuses or fools depending on how the year plays out.

Might be the most sane post I've read on bf. Hat's off.

Weak fools agreeing with David King of all people. That germ goes out of his way to stick the knife into Freo whenever possible, he would criticise any decision or non-decision that was made. But it just happens to suit your narrative and suddenly he's talking sense.

Weak and pathetic
"David King criticises Freo for winning premiership".

Garlic: "hey Chris Scott, come to Freo in 2025!!"

CS: "nah I can't hey. Got a contract till end of 2025. I’m open to discussion throughout 2025 though”

Garlic: “Easy. We will keep the seat warm for you”.

CS: “sounds good.bye”

Earlier this year, we faced heat in the media after again losing valuable talent off our list. The PR team then consistently pushed the narrative that we had the most players signed long term, which was laughable.

Now, the heat is on Longmuir, and the PR team plays this card. Our club is so cringeworthy and embarrassing and the PR team needs to get their head out of the sand. And honestly, this kind of stuff smells like Bell, who has no ******* idea how to control perception and promote a brand.

This club has failed every time we've had even the slightest bit of expectation placed on us, except perhaps in 2014 and 2015. We seem to have an inability as a club to deal with and handle any expectation, often settling for mediocrity and celebrating potential.

I've getting close my limit. I can handle the losses but this kind of stuff. Not so much.
I’m struggling with the losses too. Like PTSD.

Do you think we could start a class action against the club if things really blow out?

Hey Brodes…..

I agree that he'll coach all of the 2024 season. But why pay him for 2025 if he's not the man to take us forward?
All the pressure fans etc think he is under now he'll actually be under at the start of 2025. This is literally (IMO obvs) just aligning his contract with his expectations. He'll be expected (internally) to perform next year (finals min).

So what if we finish bottom 4 this year? With little signs of any improvement? There’s no way he survives that IMO.
