I've been weighing up two hypotheticals, who from the Lyon Era do you think Longmuir would play/not play and vice versa, who from the Longmuir Era would get more of a go/less of a go under Lyon?
Ah I wish it was as easy as it was from 1995 to 2010 when it was 8 finals spots for 16 clubsWe were 3rd this year with a month to play. A lot depends on our key players staying fit but top 4 is definitely the goal.
If we get 13 games at Optus then 11 wins should be the goal then we only need to win every 2nd away game for top 4.
Will Broadie would of got games over Johnson.I've been weighing up two hypotheticals, who from the Lyon Era do you think Longmuir would play/not play and vice versa, who from the Longmuir Era would get more of a go/less of a go under Lyon?
RTB's strength is also his weakness. Will Broadie would of got games over Johnson.
I think Tom Emmett would of got games often.
I think Darcy Tucker would still get games as a rotating or depth player.
Ross Lyon tactics would mean blokes aged 23 to 27 who are C grade players would get games over the talented 18 or 19 or 20 year olds.
So.... If this was 2022 when the dockers made finals...
Do you think guys from the 2019 draft like Frederick, Serong, Henry and Hayden Young be playing almost every game? More likely be playing every 2nd game.
Yeah well that is true. Our finals run from 2012 to 2015 we at least made the semi finals minimum.RTB's strength is also his weakness.
He gets average lists to perform above average therefore the team doesn't get the replenishment in the draft it needs.
RTB would win the flag in 2025 at Freo.
Agree. There's also no universe Lyon doesn't keep Young as a defender. When Cox went down he most likely moves Treacy back and Taberner comes in.Will Broadie would of got games over Johnson.

Sometimes he does. Sometimes it's the opposite. How he managed to win just 4 games in 2016 is still Freos greatest underachieving year in its history. Finished on top 2015, played in a competitive Prelim, them fell off a cliff.RTB's strength is also his weakness.

Par for an off season.Man, must be a slow day at the office when people are discussing a former coach coaching this list who's been gone for 5 years now
We were well overdue an off-season where we didn't lose anyone we wanted to keep.
Bit of a stretch to tie it to Longmuir. Proof of the players' commitment will play out next season.
Devils advocate , but there has been a very significant change in the football department this year.
Yes but the conversation has clearly been in reference to the playing group.
I also think that Lachie Schulz would still be on the dockers list kicking 25 to 30 goals a season on a wing or forward flankFeel like Hughes would have been one of those unshakeable Ross favourites too. Probably would have preferred to go in undersized with Hughes + Ryan + Chappy all rotating on a KPF than brought in Draper.
I also don't think Walters and Freddy would be getting away with their current number of tackles. Which I don't personally mind—you can only sprint so many times in a game, and I'd prefer those sprints to be offensive. But I know Ross would have wanted defensive sprints.
Yeah true...Giving JL credit for not losing anyone this off season is fine. But it’s a minor factor for him at this stage of this tenure.
The only currency that matters to him now in year 6 of the Longmuir era are wins. Lots of them. Ideally 16 + wins in the regular season and a prelim final appearance.
Keeping all our players this off season won’t matter for shit if we only win 12 games next season and miss out on finals again.
He will be 100% toast in that case.
Harsh maybe, but that the reality for JL in 2025.
Graham is 100% next in line and it ain't even close. What is the passmark for midseason?
Would you bring Rawlings or Curley in if we're <50% wins?

Sticking with the incumbent coach has paid more dividends than going for the quick fix of late. I recon it’ll all come good this season for the playing group, selection committee and coach.Shame we didn't get proactive about moving him on this offseason. Guess we're going to wait for massive external pressure again and waste another year or three.
well Ross Lyon is the bench mark on here. He has set the bar.Man, must be a slow day at the office when people are discussing a former coach coaching this list who's been gone for 5 years now

They got a lot right last year but that 5% off at critical times was the difference. Happy to give him the flick if we miss finals otherwise we just need to keep improving.
