Kayne Turner - DUI, Blood Alcohol of .133

You are a peanut. Hodge driving at 0.068 was less likely to cause an accident than he would have been had he simply done the same drive sober 4 times. Just think about that. He made the wrong call to drive, but he most likely thought he was under but misjudged. I'm not suggesting that it is okay to drive when you're just a little over, but you have to put the degree of risk into perspective.

Driving 0.133 on Ps is a bit different because he 100% knew he was doing the wrong thing and from memory it's more like 20x more likely to cause an accident at that BAC. That BAC would reflect something like a 6 pack over a couple of hours. Very stupid to drive, and I would have thought he should not have been drinking at all given he was rehabbing from an injury.

Having said that, some of the calls here are OTT. He needs to learn a lesson, obviously - you've just got to put it in your mind that you WILL NOT DRIVE when you're out on the piss. You have to make sure you lodge that in your head before you start drinking because your decision making is impaired after you've had that many.

I wonder if Hodge misjudged because he was drunk?

I can't believe after all this time Hodgey still didn't do anything that bad in Hawks eyes. So much justifying and excusing

**** that, I was just waiting for age to be brought into it. There is no grey area if you're under 22 – it is black and white! You cannot have a drink and then drive with any bit of alcohol in your system on your P's.

If he's not old enough to know right or wrong then what's he doing playing in a professional sporting league? I don't buy into the notion that footy players are role models – they can choose to be if they want to, but they shouldn't have it thrust upon them. So that's not an argument. But even as a youngster you know these things. Age is not a defence mechanism when DUI.

Yep, spot on. Personally, I think running the gauntlet, or "Yeah, I should be ok" instances would happen more between the ages of 21-24 than between 18-21 (or equivalent), because there's no grey area and no excuse: you can't have any alcohol in your system...simple.

Even if he was caught at .02 on his Ps, he'd know that he shouldn't be driving and it's less plausible that the driver simply made an error of judgment, as opposed to a fully licenced driver blowing .052. And when you blow as much as Turner has, you're simply saying "**** it".

If he'd been caught at .01-.04, that would be one thing. He's been caught at nearly three times the legal limit for a fully licenced driver (which he isn't), while rehabbing an injury. I'd be surprised if he was considered for senior selection before August.

Idiot, has to get at least what Majak got when caught partying while on injury rehab, plus a few more.

Is young, first offence, so gets another chance, but he is involved in any alcohol-related incident again, off you to waste out your career at somewhere like Richmond or Brisbane Kayne.

The sad thing is we do these things when young but wouldn't ever when we mature ...

I'm not defending him at all. Imagine if he hurt someone or worse.

But I empathise with young people making stupid decisions (a bit) because it's part of being young. Again not excusing this I just mean in general. We forget that as we age.

Yep, this is why I'm happy for him to get a huge whack but then the slate wiped clean. With the proviso that if it happens again, see you later.

If it was someone like a Jack Ziebel, I'd be really shattered.

Go and look for my posts on Hodge from when it happened. While you're at it, look at the rest of the posts from our board. I'm guessing you mostly only read what we had to say on the main board in response to people were calling for no less than the immediate sacking of our captain. In fact the post I was responding to in this thread advocated for no less than the deaths of both Hodge and Turner. I think I made it very clear that I don't condone the actions of either drunk driver, but that they need to be put in some kind of perspective.

Taking such simplistic views in the service of your conformation bias against other supporter groups is not helpful. Please stop it.

I disagree with what MWNN said but I also think this is a stupid comment.

Bloke cops more shit at times on the Essendon board then anyone else. Tarring him with the "classical denial Essendon fan" brush is simplistic at best.
I dont go on the essendon board so i wouldnt know about that. Essendon fan preaching about guilt being proven. How many appeals are you up to now?

Still this isnt the thread for that.......

Are you stupid or deliberately trolling?

Good kid who made a mistake and will probably never do it again I feel after getting to know him a bit through a few of his school peers we employed etc...

He is/was actually fairly shy and seeked validation from his mates quite often so I could see him trying to be a little mucho in his early career to prove something but will take this to heart quite strongly...

Has made an embarrassing mistake and error of judgement which will be dealt with accordingly. Deserves a fair whack from North, should be forced to make a large donation to a road trauma charity and spend some time on the inside of a intensive care ward where people recovering from road accidents are. Maybe than it will hit him hard how much of a fool he was getting behind the wheel.

The scary thing is he is not only massively over for a fully licensed driver but he is a P plater which makes it worse because of relative inexperience compared to a fully licensed driver. His judgement would have been extremely clouded and his fortunate to not have caused further harm to himself or someone else. The fact he is rehabbing compounds his stupidity further still.

Not buying into the reasoning of him copping a bigger whack because his not from my team, if it was an Eagles player I'd want the same punishment handed out whether it be our best player or a first year player.

Stupid. This is like one of those things on draftee day one that probably gets spoken about

Will get the Law and the wrath of a very angry North Melbourne

When he does play again, imagine him trying to get to Werribee games on the train! Particularly North Ballarat. That has to be part of the punishment - a Myki card to get him to Werribee matches..in the Development League!
calm down with the punishments, mate. Its not like hes been injecting.

Hey someone should mention Hodgey.

North will do what is right for the Club and the community....unlike Hawthorn who did what was right for them without giving a stuff about the wider community
