Kelly ruled out, Hawkins a chance

If Hawkins can show the form he displayed against Freo earlier in the year then he is a viable option for FF. He needs to be leading hard and be more proactive than he sometimes shows. Defensively he is also found a bit wanting which may be due to a lack of conditioning at this stage of his career.

We have won the last 14 or so games with Lonergan in the team convincingly. I am loathe to change things now when there appears to be no real reason for doing so. Lonergan is no star but he is not a complete mug either. He understands our game plan well and creates space in the forwardline well. A sort of decoy if you like. He is also a pretty good kick for goal.

That's a very important point. Lonergan's conversion in front of goal is quite good. He may not be as long a kick as Hawkins - but right now his goalkicking is more reliable. I would suggest it's one reason he's kept his spot.

The only way I can see Hawkins getting a run is if Taylor is rested and Lonners given a run in the backline. Gives us a chance to experiment before the finals without Lonners losing confidence about his place in the side.

I don't think doing that would be good for Taylor's confidence.

After being bagged by the media the last two weeks and not playing the best in games a weeks rest may do much more harm than good.

3 of the 5 against adelaide were from turnovers further afield and he had smartly dropped back. wasnt exactly impressive.

If he "smartly" dropped back then what was not so impressive about bagging 5 goals on AAMI?

Would it have been more impressive if he dumbly competed for the ball with his own team mates and bagged 5?

i said smartly, i am not paying out on him or calling for him to be dropped. just pointing out that those goals came from pressure further afield causing a turnover and his opponent was no where in sight when the ball came back quickly. had hawkins been playing he may well have kicked 5 against adelaide. and no i am not infering that lonergan be dropped hawkins.
