Hey KM,

If there is no truly compelling KPF/KPD option for the Pies at 6, would there be consideration to:-

1. Trade down for 2 later picks such as Richmond 16 & 17 (we may need to chuck in something else). This may get us a Naughton and another decent flanker instead of just the one player at 6. I wish we still had our second rounder. Or,

2. Given strength of next years draft, swap it for a future first rounder?

What do you think the Pies will do and should do?

I'm open to trading Collingwood's first choice.

Jarrod Brander may not be there if Fremantle are picking before Collingwood. Darcy Fogarty I'd prefer to leave if available, though he may not be there either.

After Brander falls, it's unclear whether there would be another key position position player will be taken before somewhere around those two Richmond choices. Something along those lines could definitely be done.

That Richmond deal example I'd probably agree to if they were to include their 2018 2nd round choice.

Brisbane may have a compelling package with that Port Adelaide first round pick as well as their second round picks for 2017 and 2018.

Gold Coast with x4 second round picks and if they were to throw in their 2018 second round pick. That's another nice package with some of the talls who may be available in the second round.

In terms of trades for players. Jake Lever may be an options something else is thrown in with that first round pick.

Steven May might be another who could be had with that pick, and maybe one of their second round picks can be had with him.

Zac Jones might be someone else Collingwood may be able to get in something like a first round pick exchange, if Sydney finish high enough.

Otherwise the other better players available this year who would be list fits mostly are free agents, or not players you'd necessarily move that first selection down for.

At this stage for Collingwood it's just about considering options, weighting them up, writing a list in order of preference. And have some ideas on paper going into the trade and free agency period, prior to the draft.

This may have been asked before but with Carlton likely to have a top 3 pick, just curious if there is a standout midfielder in that range?
And how do they stack up against previous years top 3?

From what i've read there isn't really a gun mid who ticks all the boxes this year like maybe a Kelly (former pick 2) or Martin (former pick 3)...they all seem to have some pretty big knocks on them or play more high half forward roles, which if true would be quite unfortunate for us.

Rayner is the standout. He just probably isn't there at pick 3. He could be this years Dustin Martin. His game is highly comparable and if he improves his endurance it's not out of the question he could be as good.

Top four though for consideration of the mids I rate: Rayner, Dow, Cerra and LDU. Those 2-4 could be rated in any order, though most have LDU that next mid with Cerra 3rd.

This year the depth is leaner which is the main negative. There are lots of key position players and ruckmen available. Relative lack of other types after the first round or two.

Compared to the last three drafts, this draft may be marginally behind but for me much of a muchness with depth the main point that holds it back slightly, with mature agers for me after my first 35 or 40 in power rankings filling up most of the rest of my top 50.

Do you think the smarter clubs might swap picks this year for next year???

Depending on needs it's possible. If the pick your club has doesn't serve the list needs the club has, it may be wise.

That said, you'd probably be trading down to what would be predicted to be a lower pick, so you wouldn't be getting value if you did so.

Could RFC get Hopper for next years first?

All clubs should want Hopper. If a club offers enough, it's possible, and Richmond have some pieces that may interest GWS.

GWS would be asking for the x3 1st round picks Richmond own (x2 2017 and x1 2018) and Daniel Rioli.

Seriously?

Did Adrian Dodoro just leave Essendon and go to GWS?

Consider where Richmond are picking this year (x2 late first round choices and perhaps another late first round choice in 2018). That's may be no picks inside the top 15.

GWS won't be volunteering to give Hopper up. He has the scope to become their best midfielder - if he can stay healthy.

I could understand two late first rounders and maybe a Rioli. Even then that looks like borderline "overs" given Hopper has already been passed by several recent recruits.

Are there any players that are consistently high accumulators that you think will pull decent numbers in the seniors? Someone like a Fiorini type.

Also, what can you tell me about Dylan Moore?

GWS recruiting manager quoted as saying he thinks the depth of this years draft is better than last years. "If I look at the guys who are probably going to get picked this year in the top-30, I like a lot more of them than what I did last year. This year the first three-to-five picks might not be at the level of what we rated Andy (McGrath) and Tim at last year, but I think the overall depth in terms of the first couple of rounds is better." " Thoughts?

Mmmm I don't know.

I can see where he is coming from. Certainly I do not rate the top talent this year as high as last years, which wasn't rated as high as the top talent from 2015.

There are certainly more names on many phantom draft lists in the bottom half of this years top 30 that I like, but I expect many of them to move in to the top 20. There are some names on current top 20 lists that I question.

What would the tigers get if dusty goes to nth on big money? Immediate Pick after their first round pick and the first pick in second round?
Also what would happen if say...nth offer huge and tigers match it, does nth then have to trade picks or is that all out the window because of rfa status, thus probably being the therefore mentioned picks from the first part of my question? Thoughts or exact knowledge anyone?

If he goes as a FA the best possible outcome is a single first rounder immediately following Richmond's pick (see Franklin earning Hawthorn pick 19). If Richmond match (or at least threaten sufficiently) it's back to the old ways - stay at the club, work out a trade or walk into the draft.

It did change as to earning the first pick in second round as well since then if deal was so big and for certain length im sure as a result of the franklin trade. Hopefully he stays anyway.

Not necessarily. They may trade as Geelong did with Dangerfield

Nope. If anything the hurdle for a first-rounder got higher. The figures being thrown around regarding Martin would still certainly qualify for the top bracket of compensation though.

Read my second sentence - Adelaide threatened to match so a trade became necessary.

I think the Saints should consider Hayes
Longer ok but Hickey not up to it. Hayes could be a special talent and they could still get a good midfielder
Yeah could definitely have a place as a forward/ruck although we've got plenty of tall forwards in Bruce Mccartin Marshall Battle Membrey. Probably depends on how highly we rate Marshall. A Hayes/midfielder combo at 7/8 would be nice.

With Matt Priddis to retire, urgency for adding midfielders certainly rises now.

Was expecting with Nic Nat to return next year that Priddis and Mitchell would take one last shot.

Strategy has to adjust now from my earlier analysis.
daniel rich for the eagles ?

Daniel Rich is contracted to the end of 2021 and on bloody good coin, he will be going nowhere.
yeah obviously i already know that but i would never have given him that money nor length of contract so for me i live in hope he will disappear.
perhaps controversially when i do my best team and further years ahead he isn't there, like lester bewickc.beams, harwood, frost, freeman, bell, bastinac and some others. just and merely my opinion. which players we delist draft and play in the next 2 years will be consequential for the goals of consistent finals appearances and grand final victory. no more mediocrity i would like us to be bold.

100% agree with you on Rich's length and dollars but Fagan and Noble are stuck with it now, no way would he be getting that sort of deal from another club. Also agree on Bewick, C.Beams, Harwood, Frost:eek:, Freeman and Bell:eek:. Lester is loved by the coaches at has played reasonably well this year and Bastinac has been really good since coming back in since is stint in the NEAFL.

Agree on the being bold as well.
