News Koch blocks Tredders push for the board

I mean, look at the backgrounds and areas of expertise of the board:

Koch: breakfast TV host
Restas: lawyer
Obsorne: accountant and professional company director
Cardone: Eddie McGuire's CEO
Ransom: CEO of her own tiny consultancy company
Nagle: CEO of a hospital
Zeitz: GM in a defence company
Snowdon: consultant and company director with some football admin experience
Colombus: MD and various directorships in the energy sector

I understand the board needs business, legal, corporate governance, and financial expertise but would it hurt to have a few directors with some actual football experience. Snowdon is the only one and his is from the admin and not playing side.

Koch is once again showing what an arrogant, egotistical, narcissistic prick he is. The guy might have a few wealthy connections which have helped with sponsorship, but that’s where it ends for me. By denying Tredders a seat at the table, he has exposed himself to be nothing more then a woke, dictatorial coward, who would rather silence someone, then freely debate them.

So when's Koch up for re-election? Can he be voted out by members? Or because he's an AFL appointee, he's untouchable?

We can't vote Koch out.

If the board elected a new chairman, I would expect Koch to step down from the board entirely. This seems unlikely to happen (the AFL stacks our board), and it's not something we can influence much anyway.

If sufficiently many members made his tenure unpleasant, he might depart. Beyond "more than currently", we don't know how many members or how much or what sort of unpleasantness it would take.

If the club's financials nosedived under his stewardship (members jump off, sponsorships dwindle, debt increases), the AFL might remove him. Currently, none of these are serious risks for Koch.

Tangentially, this is f***ed:

7. CONSENT OF THE AFL
Subject to any law to the contrary, whilst the AFL shall continue to exist (or if it shall cease to
exist, whilst its successors in title or any assignee of its major undertaking shall continue to exist)
any special resolution of Members of the Company amending or repealing and replacing this
Constitution shall have no force or effect without the prior written consent to such amendment
or repeal and replacement from the AFL.

Does need a shade more balance to it, especially football IQ.

Cardone (definitely!!!!!) and (perhaps?) Ransom (or Nagle) to depart, that's 2 spots.

Add one extra body on the deck, means we should be able to engage Board seats for 3 footy savvy types (they can, of course, also be people who have a rounded CV including business, accountancy/finance, etc - but knowledge of football is the priority here atm).

To maintain a gender balance, maybe Erin, when she finishes playing, could be a candidate?

Just saying you can't really call it "keeping it quiet" when members were notified by email and I'm pretty sure I got a letter a few weeks ago too, and it's been on the club site and socials. I barely touch social media, but there's no point crying about not being told if you don't look and haven't given them a way to get the info to you.

Just adding it to the list of idiocy people in this f**king place cry about into their "Yes We Ken" shirts about because they have a bit of sand in their vags over some club decisions
They sent an email 10 days prior. It would have been organised last year. Milquetoasthew Richardson made no mention in his end of year correspondence to members.

You did get a letter? Or you are pretty sure?

Has it actually been on social media? I couldn't find it quickly on the main ones.

Jonty doesn't exactly have his head buried in the sand when it comes to footy in general and especially not with Port. I fail to see him crying, merely noting that he, someone with a keen interest in Port, was not aware that the AGM was scheduled.

Noting the club's inability to record the length of people's memberships or even that people withdrew consent to be billed for their membership, it's not beyond reason to consider that they actually failed to notify at least some people.

Members are stakeholders. They should be informed with plenty of notice and posting on your own website or disseminating it via traditional media is not sufficient. Throwing information into the ether and hoping your stakeholders find it is another example of poor governance.

Good luck at the AGM. I hope you are able to change the system so that Members take back control of the Club.

Given that Tredders will get in as a Member rep later in the year there are not too many ex AFL players who would fit the bill as Darren Cahill's replacement. If would be great to find someone with some playing and coaching experience.

I have no doubt Tredders would bring a new perspective to the Board. Warren Tredrea is a person of experience and success in the AFL and when you look around the traps there are not too many with his experience and his ability to identify the key issues and come up with solutions. I also have no doubt Tredders will get eventually on the Board if he wants it.

You are right Kochie could have handled things better, he could have explained the situation to Tredders and put the whole deal to bed months ago but for reasons best known to Kochie he didn't and that is David Koch. I am not really sure what Kochie means when he says the Club does not want to be put in a position where it chooses 'club legends over club legends' for a board position. Was there more than just Tredders in the mix? Has a past AFL player been head hunted, or is this just another of Kochie's flak deflecting one liners?

You are also right about the system and the lack of accountability to Members. Unfortunately it is not going to change we are stuck with it and the important thing is that the Board get it right and appoint someone with an elite sporting background. The field is not overly extensive so purely as an example I would not be too disappointed if a guy like Bruce Djite came on board. Ok, he does not have a Port AFL background but he has made it to the top in his chosen sport, he has an executive profile in SA and his community involvement would suit the PAFC Board to a tee. He is also a guy who seems to get listened to in the media and often has some forceful points to make. A replacement for Darren Cahill will eventually be announced but it is unlikely to be someone who will rock the boat so maybe Bruce Djite is wishful thinking.

I wish you well at the AGM and hope that your questions are answered.
Djite would be good.
Abernathy?
Fiacchi again?
Giniver?

Seriously, if Hinkley has that much say on the running of our club, we may as well shut the doors
Lol he didnt need to get involved. He knew cuckkoch had him covered.

Thought I'd tune in to 5aa to hear Timmy G's comments on the front page story re Koch blocking Tredders' appointment or request to be appointed to the Board. Absolute crickets.
Hes been totally neutered. I've lost alot of respect for him.

I still laugh every time I read Holly Ransom

Like we’re rejecting club great Warren Tredrea but it’s cool to appoint a random kid with an arts degree, no business experience and is a West Coast supporter

Some of the pearl clutching and hyperbole on here is embarrassing. Should we only draft Port supporters and purge everyone that's not been a Port supporter their entire life.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. A second generic franchise in SA is a terrible idea. In fact, a second generic franchise has not worked in any of the four expansion states. The only way Port can be a success is by embracing its history and tradition and forging its own path as a club with different expectations and a different way of doing things than the rest of the clubs in the league. The current administration has successfully managed to turn us into a bland, generic, mediocre, boring football club that wouldn't win a premiership in a thousand years in its current guise. Nobody should be celebrating this and nobody should be defending it.

Shit effort by kockie but hardly surprising

But I’m thinking it might be the catalyst to end his reign with some decent supporter backlash and hopefully pressure to resign

Then stinkley is on his own

Well said! Is this Warren Tredrea?

The Bunyip from Bungan Beach Misses the Point on Purpose …

https://www.adelaidenow.com.au/spor...d/news-story/bae277d50d68eccec78d3d6ba8b4f7d9

….. Responding to a question at the club’s AGM about why Tredrea didn’t wasn’t (sic) being appointed to the board Koch said he felt uncomfortable about making a captains call and appointing Tredrea over another club past player and legend.

…. Koch said he wanted Tredrea to come in and get involved with the club this year at the levels below the board.
“I said to Warren get back involved, come on our committees and learn about the club,” Koch said.
“You’ve been away for 10 years, get involved with the club.
“Be on our footy committee, be on our board, financial and governance committee, our marketing committee like other players are.
“And I just don’t feel comfortable choosing him over other players who help the club out.”

…. Koch said if Tredrea did run for one of the member elected positions, he expected him to get a winning vote like Wanganeen did.
“When he ran for member elected who wasn’t going to vote for Gavin Wanganeen,” Koch said.

Admits (again) that he’s a Dictator

…. Koch said by him being allowed to choose who was on the Power board, it allowed him to target specific skills.

and Contradicts Himself in the Process.

I want Koch and Ken gone because it's been long enough. Too long. I'll say one thing though, I'm not in for historic revisionism about being setup for success.

Anyone who did not think we were primed as a club as a genuine chance to win a flag leading into Prelim Final week of 2020 or 2021, is lying.

They got there, they failed, they should go. We all agree on that.
