Well, he would probably go the way of Fiacchi and be suffocated from being any meaningful agent for change by Koch.Fair call I reckon. Stick him in the coaches box as a matchday analytics coach.
The problem in footy is how insular and relationship based the whole deal is. Work in footy media in SA and piss off the chairman or coach of one of the 2 sources of news and you've just totally ****ed yourself over.As I posted before, this doesn’t make sense. It does not pass scrutiny.
“Couldn’t elect him over another past great”
What past great? Who couldn’t you select him over? What other past great has their hand up?
David is speaking gobbledygook here. It’s political speak where it sounds like he’s making a choice based on a reason but the reason is clearly a facade.
Then the asking him to be involved with the club before joining the board.
On face value that immediately sounds right…. But again under any kind of scrutiny it doesn’t hold up.
If that is the pre-requisite for a board position we then must take it that the board position will be filled by someone meeting this requirement. But I don’t believe it is a true prerequisite. If the next board appointment doesn’t meet this prerequisite what does that mean? Koch lied to us? Koch asked something of tredrea that he doesn’t expect of any other board candidates?
Also, have all our previous board appointments had to be involved in the club at a level before joining the board? I’m going to say I don’t think so.
I’m also annoyed that I, a normal pundit can identify and articulate these alarming issues with Koch’s claims but the media has not and will not.
Allowing the media to be so unregulated in a capitalist system has far too often allowed people in power to escape scrutiny, whether that be sports politics or business. We’re much less than what we can be because the info we get is sensationalised bullshit and ads.
Or when they come to you with some Kochemamie idea about having dual captains, you can have both the balls & the experience as a past captain, to stop the stupidity from destroying the team & club.Gee some people miss the point by a wide margin. We don't want Tredders on the board for business nous. We don't want him on the board for technical football analysis. We want him on the board so that when a bunch of people like Koch who have no idea what winning premierships looks like make stupid decisions like extending that deadshit loser coach's contract for the umpteenth time, there is somebody who can look them all in the face and say 'this club will never win a premiership with this man in charge - and I know because I've held that damn cup aloft myself and know what it takes'.

This begs the question... can Koch be ousted from the Chairmanship? Or has he essentially been grandfathered in via the AFL and so is only answerable to them?
If it's the latter, we are royally screwed.

Well we're stuffed then. He's reportedly retiring from TV next year, which no doubt means our club will be his own personal play thing for everThe only way Koch leaves is by choice, or some sort of misconduct/scandal that would see the AFL knock him on the head.
Port could finish 12th every year for the next decade, and as long as it remains afloat to provide revenues for the SMA and League, Koch will remain.
Bruce Djite would be great. Reckon he's a Port man tooDjite would be good.
Abernathy?
Fiacchi again?
Giniver?
And FFS all Koch had to do was say “we’d be absolutely delighted to have Tredders back directly involved with the club again after such a long long time and we’re going to work together on finding the best role for him initially where he can really make a quick impact” and there would be expectation and excitement rather than angst. Was it that bloody hard David, even if you didn’t mean any of it?
Yep. He doesn't need a business background or a law degree to do what we need him to do. His resume is printed up on the wall at the Port Club, and it's a more impressive resume than everyone else on the board put together.Gee some people miss the point by a wide margin. Yeah, if we are getting a sportsperson in, Bruce should be top of the list by a long way. Good guy, smart, leader, has connections.Bruce Djite would be great. Reckon he's a Port man too
He said last night he chooses board members so I guess he's there until he wants to leave! This begs the question... can Koch be ousted from the Chairmanship? Or has he essentially been grandfathered in via the AFL and so is only answerable to them?

Yeah, I’m not sure where this general idea has arisen that to sit on a footy club board you’ve got to be a titan of industry, business mogul or own a boutique TEDtalk concern.
I'm betting it will be Boak if he retires this year. On the Board he'd be a non-threatening Koch yes-man in the mould of Wanganeen and would demolish Tredrea in a popular election.and he’s also bought time to groom a popular candidate to go head to head with Warren if the time comes, with the club/AFL veto up his sleeve after that.
