Is the same record considered a breakage?

The asterisks denote current streaks so for e.g. Melb v PA, the figure 1* indicates that Melbourne has never finished above Port in consecutive seasons, although they also finished above them in 1998, 2000, 2006, 2011 and 2018.

Re: the Blues/Swans streak, that was only broken in 1977 when Carlton lost their final game and the Swans won their final game so the Swans pipped Carlton for their finals spot.

Carlton continued to dominate the Swans until 1996 as they only finished below them in 1989 (Blues overtook the Swans post H&A in 1986).

Another season done and some very long streaks finally ended this year, including the No 1....

After 22! long years, Carlton finally have finished higher than Geelong!

Essendon too just pipped Geelong by 1 place after 20 years, ending the second longest streak

St, Kilda also, after 14 years, finally finished ahead of Geelong.

11 years later, Carlton also got one over arch rival Richmond.

The remaining top streaks are:

I found one - probably not all that surprising - but Geelong over North Melbourne is now at 8 years
