I hope for the Hawks fans sake he does sign up early and doesn't drag it out because the like the Cloke situation it really did become painful in the end.

If you think that the media were all over Cloke this year it'll be tenfold for Buddy.

But in saying that Buddy leaving was one of the first things that crossed my mind when I heard the news that Wellingham was wanting to head back to WA.

Don't understand why any club would bother chasing someone with a $m offer who this board believes is useless and overrated Confused o_O
Because if a team manages to get him Hawthorn will go downhill because the Hawks are a one man team

Here is an alarming thing for mine its as follows in an AFL.com article

[ Hawthorn so far hasn't made any significant progress in negotiations to re-sign its marquee man.

"I don't wish to talk about it apart from saying it's an ongoing issue and something we're working on," chief executive Of hawks Stuart Fox told AFL.com.au.

In July, Fox told those gathered at a pre-match function he wanted to have Franklin signed up by the end of the year, to avoid a Travis Cloke like situation. ]

Take out of this that fox and hawks wanted him signed but for some reason it couldnt get done before the end of this season like they all wished, and to think buddy didnt know wellingham was going weeks before he did you would be stupid

End of the year not season.

And for FFS, Buddy and Wellingham aren't married! They will be fine with out eachother!

Im sure they will be fine without each other. And of course they aren't married, homosexual marriages aren't legal in this Country so there is no way they could be. But seriously, Buddy is still leaving.

wow people starting to agree with me now,

big thing, he might not 100% go to freo, but i new it would come up
You new (sic) that Lance Franklin, probably either the number 1 or 2 player in the game, would generate interest come free agency time?

You couldn't possibly tell us this Tuesday's Lotto numbers could you? Your foresight is unbelievable!

well, you guys get denfensive, my thinking is he will stay, but the longer it takes for him to sign, the snowball effect in the media on this case, it will de rail your season

I'm surprised this thread has gone on for this long.

Don't people think he's had the big Ablett-like offers in the past?

If he was going to leave for money, it would've happened already.

I don't think he's had an Ablett-like offer to be honest, although for his talent, excitement and 'franchise player' qualities, he would easily be justified in receiving such an offer. Gazza Jr was lured by an amount reported to be close to $9M over 5 years with a healthy front loaded component, an income probably 125% more than what Geelong would have been able to offer. I'm not saying Franklin would take the money, but it would be nice from my perspective to see that other superstars are not immune from these temptations. The fact that there has been no real reports of even a million dollar offer for Franklin suggests that no megabucks has been in the offing, surely such news would be seized upon by some footy journalists.

With Gold Coast investing so much in Gazza, and GWS to be frank blowing their $1M salary on the handy but far from superstar in Scully, plus Davis and one or two others..perhaps they also haven't got the scope to pay Franklin such a huge sum. Given the Hawks are smack bang in the middle of their premiership window, and the likely foregoing of finals action for Franklin at a new club, he's every chance to stay, and it's every chance in the absence of an offer like $8M or more over 5 years, he'll remain a Hawk for life.

Lyon has already come out saying Franklin is worth $1.5m a year - I suppose to a team in their "window" and wanting that additional elite forward it could complete the picture, and would be worth it if they can afford it for a few years. 2 teams come to mind in that position - Freo and Sydney, Freo already has that cap space and I'm sure Sydney could easily arrange it. So $1.5m for a couple of years and then $1m may be about the mark and seems to be what certain clubs would be willing to spend for his services. How close will Hawks get to that is the question as to whether Buddy stays or goes. My guess is if $1.5m for a couple and then $1m is offered they would need over $1.1-$1.2 to get him to stay due to other perks and future $ earnings which should be higher if he stays with Hawks. Cash in hand is always preferable to cash in future as it is guaranteed, and they are the "me now" generation.

anyone reading the OP has not been touched since October 8th, i was being abused and belittled, I believe hawks fans are worried

A lot of wishful thinking going on here with people saying he will definitely go or stay. There are compelling arguments for both situations occurring and this is something we're just going to need to wait and see out. Either way, almost half of the posters here will look like idiots in 12 months if they re-read this thread.

The whole Cloke saga with the Pies hardly derailed their season. They still played in a Prelim final..
The Hawks will be fine, whatever happens...

This thread is a bit of a laugh, and particularly those posters suggesting that clubs knocking on Franklin's door with bagfulls of money is some sort of new phenomenon.

Franklin has not come out of contract since he joined the Hawks, re-signing without fuss every single time and long before his current contract expires.

Lots of wishful thinking that this is going to change in here. Just like those claiming "he'll go home"....the very "home" that he's not bothered to visit since the season ended.

If he does go West or to West Coast/Freo I bet a new story that will pop up how much of a druggy he is because he plays in WA.

I have it on very good authority that in 2014 Lance Franklin will be playing for the Shanghai Dragons, a new club the AFL is set to announce as the first in its push to promote the game in the Asia.
His salary will be $2.7 million a year and he will enjoy many perks including his own personal rickshaw driver, a lifetime supply of instant Ramen noodles and an agreement that allows him to have casual sex with any other players & administrators' wives at any time.

What, you don't think I'm taking this thread seriously? ;)
