Because his mates, family and his love of the city and club means nothing.
I don't think anyone is saying that. However, if a $1.5m offer was on from Freo, I think most would be surprised if he took $1m from the Hawks.

Mates and the city would count for something, but I doubt they're worth that much to him.

Also, I don't know why you include family in there, they moved for him once, pretty sure they will do it again. Particularly if it is back to their home state.

And the endorsements, advertisement etc won't give him money?

Buddy is pretty much a brand.

He is a brand anywhere. You think Judd or Ablett are making less money now than they were before? By leaving, it raised their profile nationally and increased their sponsorship opportunities, not the other way around.

Judd came to melbourne which coincidentally allowed twiggers to raise her profile.
Ablett wanted to lose the profile.

I think the risk of losing that stuff is bigger when moving than stayin put.
Also remember we had all this before with Gold Coast and probably will again.

You are saying the money is a reason to move to WA - we say Money might not be the major pull - so you then have to argue other factors. if there was a noveriding reason hed take the money and take the risk of restructuring his business endorsements etc

So whats the reason ? -and please dont drag up wellinghams name again

You are talking as though there is ever only one reason - it is actually the combination of reasons. Yes Buddy would want to stay at Hawks and probably will do so, but he is not going to ignore the huge amounts he could get elsewhere and he will be wanting a lot more from the Hawks and getting it. Hawks fans are deluding themselves if they think he will re-sign for anything like what he is currently on.

What is he currently on?

don't know what he's on but can estimate it is well under 1m per yr on an average. Probabilities are they will have to pay him at least $1m per year average, probably a bit more. I don't know definitely that a meteorite won't destroy the planet next month but can fairly safely say on probability that won't happen. Nothing is definite, we all make our decisions on probabilities - unless you are a religion "true believer" - funny how there are some similarities with reverent sport club fanatics.

Precisely.....if there are offers out there in excess of 1.5million, rest assured Buddy and management will be seeking maximum compensation from Hawthorn....absolute minimum of 1 million per season. Agents are no mugs either, they get commission from contracts, so will be ensuring there compensation maximised!

At a guess my take is that buddy will take a 5 year 7 million contract from Hawthorn.

I think he is only currently on 500 or so a season....not sure where I got this in my head, if so, that would be deal of the century!

Absolutely, but as one reason is refuted, another is brought up - and dont think we dont know you are mostly mischief makers.

And where did we say he will re sign for the same, he is approaching the age where he provides peak returns and will be paid appropriately

And dont you think buddy wasnt offered a mill or more like ablett from the gold coast ?

How and why would you do that?

You're the scientologist?

I think Hawthorn can afford to seriously back-end his contract to keep him around during their run. If Lance can't figure out that this is his chance to set himself up for the rest of his life then he really needs it ironically, because the rest of his life will be tough without football.

I expect a half decade contract, but I think he is worth more to Fremantle right now than he is to Hawthorn, we are far more desperate for a key forward.

What's Roughhead's contract status?

Haha, you really want him.

If he signs for less than what he could get then that means that Hawthorn can afford to keep/get better players around him.

Which in turn will result in more/sustained success.

And that will result in more fans/members.

Which results in lots more Buddy merchandise being sold.

Which finally results in his income being greater than what it would've been had he push for that extra few hundred thousand a year over 5 years.

The thing is, you move for a variety of reasons. Say you want money, but also to be a premiership contender. GC couldn't provide that, but Fremantle may be able to. Perth is also footy-mad, like Melbourne, so he would still have plenty of profile unlike if he moved to GC.

If Buddy moves it will be to a melbourne club - there is absolutely no way he would survive in a fishbowl like Perth. For those who do read articles on Buddy (other than the made up bs) he values family and friends highly. I think people seriously under estimate the guy and while he will push for higher and deserve it I don't think it will be for the sort of money people are bandying around on these boards.

Of course this is all subjective and Buddy will do what Buddy wants to do and may make liars out of all hawk supporters who read him differently from how others perceive him.

Freo need him badly mate, I can't wait to see their hopes and dreams crushed ( AKA Goddard, Cloke and Tippet style ) when Buddy signs with us in 2014 ;)

I would love Buddy at Freo if it fits in to our longer term cap and keeping our younger stars. He would present another major target with Pav, ensuring domination in 2014 and possibly 2015. But even without Buddy we will certainly destroy the eagles and most other teams the next few years at least. I cannot wait for 2013 for even far more improvement than what we had the last half of 2012 with a full pre-season for the first time ever in all our best players. We'll also have Mora in the mix soon enough and further developing what he's only had the opportunity to show briefly before his injuries.

I feel proud that we own the Budstar now, haha ;)

Didn't realize you "owned" him - hope he reads these board lol - he is a FA and can do what he likes, and under FA teams are willing to pay far more because they are not giving up draft picks under any trade arrangement, which Hawks wouldn't consider anyway.

FA will result in more senior and elite players changing teams as the barriers preventing/dissuading are gradually removed. If a player wanted to move before it would have to be via a trade arranged by their club or risk ND - now its purely up to the player and club seeking the player, and that club forgoes no draft picks like they would have to trading.

Atleast you don't lack confidence!

That's not relevant though, didn't you even understand his point? If clubs start throwing huge amounts of money at Buddy the Hawks will have no choice but to increase the size of his contract/try and match the other clubs. You seem to be romantisizing that Buddy would stay purely on principle.

Did chuckle a little at Hodgey citing family as a potential reason for staying in Melbourne though
