Oh and I'm particularly happy we gave up a 2017 2nd rather than a 2018 2nd. The value in each of those drafts is different, so keeping that 2018 2nd is great

Especially if we end up going to the draft with 10, 16 and 18 (assuming we get that for Cameron), we don't really need this year's 2nd that much anyway - can use our 3rd for Jackson Edwards if we still have room on the list by then.

If that's what it took to grease the wheels, who cares? In theory we should be near the top of the ladder next year so we're talking about pick 50-something to pick 70-something. At that point of the draft it's all a crap shoot anyway.
Yeah don't think we will be planning on using it if we could trade in another pick.

This is the first trade we've done in a while for a departing player where I've felt satisfied. Picks outside the twenties are a lottery anyway so I don't mind losing those, and with our record of spotting talent in the rookie draft it's even less of a worry giving up a pick in the thirties. What's important is that we've brought in the two first round picks.

Now we neex to facilitate a trade to get Hogan out of there
No better result is next here homesickness results in him spending time in WA or poorly performing. No draft pick assets for him but no output.
Lewis and Vince fall off a cliff performance wise.
Petracca et al POed at salary and Watts being pushed out foment discontent and perform poorly.
Jones and Viney carry the midfield as best they can.
Garlett returns to 2016 levels.

Melbourne finish bottom 6.

"Adelaide has obtained pick 10 in this year’s draft, a future first round selection and a future fourth round selection for Lever.

The Demons get a young anchor for their backline, plus pick No. 35 in this year’s draft and a future third round selection."

I didn't think you could trade future firsts as well as future later round picks, and vice versa.

By the way, great deal. Well done Justin Reid.

Lever - GAGF.

I think that only applies to 1st and 2nd round picks? I don't think there are limits on the later rounds? In any case, they've only got a future 4th round going out, so I'm sure they can probably get one of those back as steak knives in any other trade they do. That's the kind of thing you find down the back of the couch and you never even knew you were missing it in the first place.
