Oh I thought it was last night because we are wearing the hall of fame jumper against Essendon. They must have schedulded it in the week leading up to the bye to try and inspire our players for the game against the bye.

So. who's going on Wednesday? My mother got tickets for us.

It's something to look forward to after what happened today.

A simply amazing night. Seriously, all my Melbourne bretheren should start saving up to make sure they make the next one NOW. Today. You don't need that extra coffee anyway, it's bad for you.

Lots and lots of love for the great Michael Voss. I could have sat there and listened to him all night, Matty Campbell (who was actually ok in his role of interviewer) should have just told him to talk and talk and talk. It was a very uplifting experience, lots of laughs to be had from the likes of Daryl White and Chris Johnson. Cringed every time Shaun Hart mentioned p--- a-------.

Why aren't you saving up already?!

Oh, and shameless blog plug inspired by the events of the night http://normalautistic.blogspot.com.au/2014/05/top-5-brisbane-lions-moments.html

And all our Brisbane brethren should be saving up for the next one in Melbourne in two years.;)

If they can fit us in, given they sold out last time.

Only down side of the night was the fact that our Chairman handed out all the awards, but seeing as he didn't say anything it wasn't that bad

It was indeed a fabulous night and I agree with Kezz, if you can get to one of these nights, do it. I've been to both and they have both been great. Was special to see the Bears side of the family honoured, I like the way we tailor it depending on which city hosts the function. All the 3 peat men spoke brilliantly and gave the same message about sticking together and getting through the tough times. They credited the hardships as the things that made them the team they became. Well, that and Leigh. They clearly love him. I would love to see our current team talk about Leppa like that in 10 years time.

Good to see Chrissy Johnson inducted - my personal all time favourite player (and the last Fitzroy player in the AFL - giving rise to my name on here). Obviously the same goes for all the inductees, especially Roger Merrett who meant so much to the Bears.

Vossy is truely worthy of being a Lions legend. Defintiely one of our greatest ever.

Totally agree. The only question in my mind is whether it is a tad early and in that regard whether the events of last year played any part in the judges' thinking, consciously or otherwise.

Nope, appalling statement, to even state something like that just disparages how great this man was not only in getting QLDers to see Aussie Rules as a genuinely tough sport, but in helping some of the old Roy Boys to follow the Brisbane Lions. For him to come back from that broken leg & the mental scars that it would have created to not only still dominate on the footy field, but to also captain one of the greatest teams is a testament to how much of a legend he was. He was always going to be inducted as a legend ASAP.

I still truly believe if he hadn't have broken his leg and lost some of his blistering pace there wouldn't even be the "Voss, Hird or Buckley" discussion. It seems some people can't seperate Voss' coaching record and his remarkable playing career.

Voss just oozes class. He's one of those people that just seems to have the ability to transcend stuff that mere mortals come unstuck over. To hear him say repeatedly of late that the Lions are his club and always will be, then last night say it will be the greatest honour in his life to be inducted as a legend, makes you realise that some of us probably harbour more ill feelings over last years events than he does. I've heard him speak of it very matter of factly a number of times now, and while there seems to be a hurt of unfinished business, his love of the club forgives all.

To read all the personal stories and comments from the inductees present last night, the message given to the young guys was pointed and deliberate. Stay the course, grind out the hard times, they make the good times worth it. It seemed none of them expected the success they had or the extent they had it, but all acknowledged that the hard times made the good times so much sweeter.

To hear Chris Scott say those things must have been quite a shock for our young guys - here's an opposition coach giving a life lesson to another team. Its hard to imagine most of them not walking away last night feeling just that little bit closer to the club and feeling a lot more confident in the path they are on.

Theres probably a lesson for us in that too somewhere.

Do you think after last night we will be fired up for the big game against the bye this week?

Dunno... rumour has it that neither team will show up due to poor ticket sales. Its a shame really because the bye has had 2 close losses in the last couple of weeks and its confidence was pretty much shot...

I don't think many people remember how bad his injury was. To come back from an injury like this (pic below if it works), to even play again (like Nathan Brown) is an accomplishment in itself. But to come back & have a stellar career & be a triple premiership captain (probably should have a Norm Smith too if votes weren't finalised at 3/4 time), is simply amazing.

Voss' induction is absolutely appropriate, absolutely necessary and absolutely deserved.

The Club's notoriety as having one of the great teams of the modern era is the result of Voss' fierce on-field presence and skill as a leader and player.

His coaching record is the result of the Club/chairman's hasty appointment of him and the lack of support he received during his tenure.

Perhaps the Club is moving to rectify his treatment and dismissal as coach and call him a Legend "early", but in my mind this was due as soon as he retired.

All this, and he was a Queenslander. Unheralded.

Vossy will always be the greatest Lion/Bear ever.
Awesome player/captain/ person .
Absolute Legend.
Love the man.

That was heart breaking.
Amazing he ever played again.

Congrats to all the inductees and M.Voss - all very deserving (well, I assume the ancient Fitzroy dudes were deserving, it's hard to tell exactly). Was glad that Roger Merrett got the nod and a bit shocked that he is still unwell enough that his daughter had to talk for him - get well soon Roger Merrett. I was kind of hoping Aker might get the nod at first try but not really expecting it. For whatever he may be personally he was a fantastic player who also did a heap for footy in QLD so really hoping they don't lock him out forever.
