Excited about Kennedy. Hopefully we will have some other signings too (Stocker, Marchbank, LOB, Honey). I know we will have to wait for some, but below is current contracts as per Contract Status thread. Can see 7 to 8 changes at end of year...

2022
2. Paddy Dow
4. Lochie O'Brien (Rookie) ?
8. Lachie Fogarty ?
13. Liam Stocker
14. Liam Jones (Retired)
22. Caleb Marchbank
26. Luke Parks (2nd Year Rookie)
28. David Cuningham
31. Tom Williamson
32. Jack Newnes ?
35. Ed Curnow
36. Josh Honey
37. Jordan Boyd (Rookie)
39. Oscar McDonald (SSP Rookie)
41. Domanic Akuei (Cat B Rookie)
43. Will Setterfield
44. Matthew Owies (Cat B International Rookie) - (to be retained as a Cat B Rookie)
46. Matthew Cottrell (Rookie) ?

There's my take on a likely 7 or 8....of course one or several could pull a Bam Bam style resurrection over the course of the next 14 games!

And depending on how the McGovern and Marchbank cards fall, Park might be gone too.

And they might retain LOB, move Paddy on....

Interesting discussion...
MSD the two standouts and most likely taken before us...
  1. Max Ramsden - 202cm Ruckman - Great in the air, elite athleticism, high work rate
  2. Jai Culley - 193cm Midfielder - Strong, aggressive at the contest, goals kicking midfielder... Comparisons Cripps and Bont
Who would you take?

Max
certainly is the type of player we need...
But, I keep getting drawn back to last year, how highly rated Edwards was as a ruckman and went at Pick 1.
Since being at North he has done SFA and barely contributes at VFL level...

Find it hard to pick a tall in the MSD, can't think of any talls that have made the level or many smalls for that matter...

Jai even though his not a type of player we need, he'd be my choice of the draft...
How could you go past a 193cm tough as nails, goal kick midfielder? I couldn't...

Get a feeling though, that we already know who were after and they are from SA...
Would jump at Culley but no chance he lasts to us.

Any idea who from SA?

Connor Ballenden probably for a Ruck/KPF chop out. He is performing well in the SANFL after being delisted by Brisbane end of 2021.

At 23 yo, 200 cm, 100+ kg he is physically ready to step in if required.

Should we open up another spot in light of McDonald's 'indefinite' injury absence, a replacement KPD/swingman should be taken with our 2nd pick. Whatever happened to Blake Schlensog...?

I don't recall too many lions fans being upset he was delisted - how is he going in SA?

Spill the beans, T.

No idea... Just going off Lloyd last week...
Went something like... That they wouldn't necessary choose a tall, but would go with the player they thought would play AFL...
Then said they would all decide in a meeting with our SA recruiter...

I could be way off, but that was what I took from it...

The McKay news stamps McDonald's papers for mine.

Ignoring the mild conspiracy theories, he was meant to cover the Jones/kpf position, even played some preseason in the ruck. All big holes in our list now.

Just can't rely on him, two years in a row, fault or no fault, some things are unfair

What’s the game of Sam Fowler like?
Sam Fowler (Collingwood/forward): Collingwood VFL player Sam Fowler has put his hand up for an AFL opportunity given the unfortunate injuries to Brodie Grundy and Nathan Kreuger.

Some guy with a cult figure type name was mentioned in an article or two a few weeks ago and he wasn't a tall.

McDonald needs to go on the inactive list to open up a spot on the list for us to recruit some talls in the MSD.

The newest injury update has a bad update on Parks, looks like he will be out until about Round 21 all things going well, same with McGovern.

Both Parks and McGovern looking precarious and may also be candidates for the inactive list in a couple of weeks.

If this happens (which is unlikely), we could have up to 4 MSD picks. We need 2-3 talls to finish this season.

McKay and Pitto both 6+ weeks away, who knows what happens in those weeks. We have absolutely bugger all depth behind the 1st XXII

I think with McDonald we're going to put him on the LTI list.

No date is put up. I think the risk to rely on him is too high.

We could use back up right now in multiple areas.

Whilst might sound unfair, maybe having a chat with Ed? Looking at the longer picture, we're pretty healthy in the only positions he plays.

Try to pick up 3 players in MSD to bolster areas of need.

It’s hard not blame the current KPP crisis on list management.

Notwithstanding the fact it’s hard to foresee injuries, last year we already had a glaring lack of KPP depth (even before considering the injury histories of Charlie and Oscar), so whilst Young was a welcome pick up he was merely a replacement for Levi, essentially leaving us no better off than we were last year.

When Jones retired it should have become a critical issue to address via the supplemental selection but instead we took Cripps and Leiu neither of whom were truly in need nor were they deemed good enough to be offered a spot in the end.

Now we will have to hope either Harry can make a miraculous recovery or rely on some non KPP types like Sos, Kemp and the highly injury prone Marchbank to act as cover, two options that are fraught with danger.

Its too late to do much about the situation this year but I really hope it’s addressed at the end of the season so we are never in this situation again.

With the MSD around the corner, as well as several injuries, it'll be interesting to see what changes happen.

How does the order of picks work? I'm guessing it's by ladder position and the number of spots clubs have to fill? (if any, I just read that only a handful of clubs will be eligible to select players).

All the Restricted Free Agents, Amon and McStay, would probably be out of reach for us $$$ wise...

Would we offer a couple of years, to a Walker or Gunston?
Both know what it takes to get to the big dance, both still performing, would be cheap and would boost our forward line...
Allows us to draft a KPF and let them grow in the reserves...

Also of interest would be
Stein, Hunt, Miller, Naismith, Cordy

Our best 22 forwards are already good enough. We need depth options.
