Autopsy Loss to Sydney - quite literally no words will adequately sum this up

By the letter of the rule it's the correct call. The question probably needs to be whether exceeding the interchange cap needs to be a free kick and 50m penalty, therefore a punishment absorbed by the players who will not be aware of how many interchanges have been made in a game (especially in today's context, in Sydney's forward line of all places) as opposed to a fineable offence (with the penalty issued during the week along with a please explain from the AFL. A penalty of $5,000, increasing with each offence being suitable).

In my opinion, this is different to the interchange infringements we normally see (players not going through the gate, going onto the ground a fraction bit too early) as these acts are controllable by the players.

The frustration a lot of fans have is that this act would have had no bearing on the result given it was miles off the ball. Combine it with the free kick paid earlier in the game when the medical staff got caught after checking up on I think it was Wardlaw, and that's why fans are frustrated.
The penalty need to be greater $30,000.00 and a free kick in the middle of the ground. If only $5000 clubs would be prepared to absorb it more, especially in a final or Grand Final. A free kick is fine if it was to be taken in the center of the ground but no 50 mtr penalties should be imposed and first clubs should be warned like with the 6-6-6 penalty and the last player on should come straight off..

There's nobody near the interchange when the call was communicated to the umpire.
When was the 76th change made. Why wasn't a free kick paid straight away?
Should there have been more time on the clock after Sydney was paid the free kick?
Can somebody get these questions into the Twittersphere?
The Club and Media need to be asking these questions.

Trying to piece this one together as well. Same concept is mentioned in the AFL playing conditions also, and also that "a team official" has to advise the number of the player coming off before they come off:

So if our official has to notify of the 76th interchange before it happens (and no-one has suggested they failed to), what the hell else does "approve" mean, if not that you'd disapprove the illegal change before it happens also? It's in absolutely no-one's interests for a game to turn on a free and 50 like this if it can be proactively prevented, and the natural read of those laws seems to suggest it should be.

But as bad as the look is for the entire sport, technical restrictions may well have been breached, and the penalty might have been correct to the letter of the law. Zoning in solely on that does a disservice to a performance from our side that absolutely deserved to see them walk off winners, and that will hopefully serve as the breakout game we need to finally escape this interminable rut. It also masks how utterly pathetic the umpiring in the first half in particular was, when HTB laws changed depending on the colour of the ball-carrier's jumper, blatant throws were ignored, and medical staff were penalised for the audacity of trying to attend to the welfare of a player who'd just been whacked in the head. Whatever the right outcome was re: the interchange infringement, everyone here is wholly justified in their anger at what we had to contend with today. Hopefully that too galvanises us.

Covered in the league's playing conditions - I guess because the cap doesn't apply in lower competitions?

So, who was our offending player immediately sent off, and leaving us one short, or was that regulation not enforced ?

The irony of beign penalised for an interchange breach against those cheating campaigners.
I was actually thinking about that inc
Exactly this

Yeah out of common decency they probably should. But the interchange official will get a big pat on the back by the AFL and it’s whores in the media for following the rules. And the interchange stewards union will have a nice old laugh as they finally got their ‘gotcha‘ moment.

Cunners needs either a mini pre season to see whether he can make a true run at things again - or they and he know that he doesn't have it in him. Time will tell.
Unfortunately, I think it might be the later, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cunnington call an end to his career at the end of the season.

It's kinda been overlooked by the other travesty, but didn't we also get pinged for our trainer, who was on the ground to care for our injured player, impeding another of our players when there was no Sydney player within about 30 metres?
Yep. Right after the cheapest of cheap shots. Umps would find a 50m penalty for any player we did this to. JZ copped one mere weeks ago for being .2 secs off the play. This clown makes no attempt at the ball and it's just a free. The umps were absolutely shit all day.

Trainer did kind of get in the way of the contest from memory, dunno if it's meant to be a free kick but there was a Sydney and North player near the ball. Felt a bit harsh when they were coming off from checking on an injured player. Not as harsh as the last one though lol :(

Yep. That turd Papaley complained and was given a free.

Papaley was nowhere near it. The North player was the one who had to deviate to get ball
Leigh Fisher is a ****ing imbecile.

This is why when we get a lead we need to continue and increase it. If we were 4 or 5 goals up it wouldn’t have mattered. Hopefully this hurts and the young players learn from the experience. When on top finish them off.
Yes half way through the last we appeared to play more defensively took our foot off the gas and tried to control the ball. Should have just kept attacking oh well

Despite the absolute match fixing officiating, what an awesome effort from our boys!

I thought Wardlaw was amazing especially since Sydney had a big-bodied midfield. That is literally the best debut you can hope for.

Sheezel was fantastic again and monstrous when it mattered. Let's be honest, that set shot was always going to be the toughest one and he'll learn from that.

I thought Scott played his best game for the season. He was everywhere. He was the main main moving the ball through chains when it was just frantic football.

Luke McDonald absolutely shutdown Papley and deserves the praise. He was also being more vocal and is making me look like an idiot after the criticism I've thrown at him. More of that please!

Despite Franklin getting some cheapies, McKay and Logue absolutely destroyed him.

I thought Howe had some very good moments and composure coming on as sub. Drury just couldn't get going today which is understandable.

Powell was having an off night but then he said 'nah **** this I'm going for it' and went BANG! Composure! More of that please.

Much better game from Paul Curtis. That goal omg. The free against was ****ing bullshit. Match-fixing.

Bergman was his usual self and I reckon he will be best 22 for a very long time.

Will Phillips was immensely good in winning the hard ball and taking the hits. That's leadership. Our Sam Mitchell?

Shiels was good again especially when he lowered the eyes. Brings so much experience and leadership.

Jy really likes the Swans lol. Fantastic again.

CCJ's best game for us?

Goldy got hard done by the umps today. ****ing shameful umpiring.

Greenwood is our Cunners when Cunners isn't playing. Takes the heat and gets us first use. That's leadership.

Larkey was off in the first half but then came good in the 2nd. Showed some pace too!

Must persist with Spicer. Kept the Swans accountable and denied space by closing in on them. Did some nice things on the wings too. It will happen if we persist!

Sleevo's pace is underrated. We must get him closer to goal and kick it in front of him at every opportunity.

Jack was great again and got some crucial fists in but at times I thought he could've been more composed but **** it was a tense game. I don't blame him especially with the god awful umpiring hot on us. ****ing corrupt shits FFS.

Ford's best game for us. I thought he contributed in the chains we got going and had a fantastic game overall.

Hall is my only sorta real negative. I thought he contributed but I feel like he could've broke the lines a little more. He gets replaced by Goater when he's back I reckon.

What is really pleasing overall is that our talent is definitely there and they lead the team out today. It was them that fought back and won momentum, it was them getting in there and winning us the ball, it was them keeping Sydney honest and denying them the chance to zone off and run, it was them when for so many years we just haven't been able to show much of our young brigade getting anywhere. Well now, we know we've got a bright future ahead. Exciting stuff and **** you AFL! GAGF!

I'm just saying it's not hard to count your interchanges.
Glad you've made time to share your intricate knowledge of football with us.
