Traded Luke Jackson [Traded with #44 and #67 to Fremantle for #13, F1 and F2]

Not sure I can explain it another way that is easier. I think the post was pretty straight forward.

It also completely ignored another likely scenario where West Coast trade in good faith for Jackson if he was to nominate them. Freo being unaffected if he doesn't end up there is laughable though.

2022
Freo don't have Jackson

If he ends up at West Coast via trade
Freo don't have Jackson

If he ends up at West Coast via PSD
Freo don't have Jackson

If he ends up at Freo
Freo have Jackson. but lose picks (opportunity cost)

You can't be affected by something that doesn't alter the current state. ie There is no corollary effect on Freo in the situation where Jackson is traded to West Coast or ends up there via the PSD.

Hope this helps.

I thought we aren't allowed to trade pick 2?

I think there are a lot of ways around that. You can get permission from the AFL to get an exemption to the rule. If that fails, you can split it for 2 1sts, or trade an F1 for a current 1st. Maybe even bundle some 2nds/3rds/players etc and get a late 1st.

Think the Freo choice will be official on Sunday or Monday and it’ll go through early in trade week as:
13, F1 -> Jackson, 41

Jackson contract will be 5 years on about 800k
I think it will be 13 and the future 2nd round pick from North for Logue.

If we finish around the same place next year according to everyone's favourite draft calculator that's equivalent to a pick 5 for Jackson.

Sounds about right for an OOC Jackson with a West Coast PSD threat.

Just give us eight fourth round picks and an F2. Adds up to pick 5. Problem solved.

Like I said, everybody's favourite draft calculator.

It hurts when you lose an out of contract player doesn't it?

You're not getting more than two first rounders.

Jeremy Cameron was 13, 15 and 20 AND GWS gave two second rounders back.

Did you want more than the Jeremy Cameron trade?

We want more than what Lachie Weller got...

Freo and WCE will both happily pay despite the fanciful circle jerk in here. He clearly loves Melbourne FC and values being let go with good wishes. He’s not going to walk into the PSD.

I heard Freo told LJ to nominate WA so West Coast and the PSD come into play, forcing Melbourne take lower than what they expect to get!

West Coast hadn't even spoken with him at that stage!

Wowwee...

So Freo offering Jackson between $6 an $7 million over 7 years, offering peanuts to best 22 players to fit him in and then missing out on him would leave Freo unaffected?

Players aren't coming to Freo just for the money anymore, Bell has made that abundantly clear!

It'll hurt so good when LJ gets to Freo for less than what Melbourne offered!

Yeah, wouldn't have thought so. You're paying $900k plus for a 21 year old and have had to effectively cut a number of best 22 players to fit him in. I sure hope it hurts as good as it did when Freo landed their last great white hope in Hogan.

Logue is the only one I think we wanted to keep. You don't think we don't have the cash to keep Acres? We are doing Meek and Tucker a favour. Lobb has wanted to go for two years. Nothing to do with Jackson.

We simply aren't going to over pay to keep mid range players and if anything teams like Carlton have showed how overpaying for players isn't the key to success.

Hopefully it works out better for you than Hogan did

I think the Tim Kelly trade is a good place to start (The draft cost was relatively steep, too: picks 14, 27 and 37 and a future first rounder (2020 draft, eventually pick 16)

For me, one top 10 ten pick plus another first rounder, steak knifes being Liam Henry, gets the deal done!

Haha did the eagles really pay that much. Haha

I think this shows why we shouldn't over pay.

I think the Melbourne trade for Lever is pretty close to fair.

The Crows have acquired Melbourne’s 2017 first-round draft pick (currently pick No.10), a future first-round pick and a future fourth-round pick.

In exchange Adelaide will send Jake Lever, a second-round pick (currently pick No.35) and a future third-round selection.
