Only way Jackson gets to WC imo is if one of their higher paid players that still have trade currency goes.
The problem for them is not the currency OR the money it's because it's both.

Yeah they certainly don't have anyone that fits the bill, but;

Im not sure its even a factor. Darling shouldn't get a new contract at 33, Kelly will need to be doing much better at 30 to stay around the clubs top money earners and then there's Gaff, he will be 32, Yeo 31, NikNat 34, they all "should" be gone at the end of their current contracts. Then you have Shuey 33, McGovern 31, Cripps 31 and Hurn 89 (likely to go on again), over the next 3 years they will free up a ton of cash and gain another 3 top 3 draft picks to go with it!

LJ is 21yo next year, start him on 350k and add stagger it the next 7 years. In 2029, at 27yo, he'll be on 1.15m in the final year of his contract.

Starting him that low is to be mindful of a kid with so much money in a small town like Perf.

Plus, a nice 2 hour a week 250k/pa job at a local window manufacturing company would be a nice way to ease him into life after football!

LJ is the guy they rebuild around, if he wants that!

Window manufacturing + Dale Alcock.

Geez, I wonder if the AFL will cotton onto that deal !!.

Jackson is definitely coming to Freo

Even if for some strange reason Jackson somehow picked WCE, Dees would hate it, they'd end up getting less for him than at Freo, Freo will give 2 firsts, Eagles will split their 2 and give a later first and doubt they even add a second as they need lots of picks

It's clearly Freo though

Darling has only just turned 30 in June - he is not 33 as you state - so he’s still got a bit of football left in him yet.

Although unlikely the PSD would be a great idea

Bit of a sour taste left over from when the Dockers went after Tim Kelly

Yeah you guys sure lost out there

Currently a C grade performing mid at an A grade price. Judd like cost for ummm an average player.

Were we? From memory the Eagles folded on the second day of trading. We may have done our due diligence but we were never in the conversation. Kelly specifically nominated West Coast too. Very different to Jackson.

IMO - the Eagles being a possible suitor for Jackson is a good thing for Freo. It enhances the threat of PSD for the Dees and takes the pressure off Freo to 'get a deal done'. And if the Eagles outbid Freo and overpay for Jackson, good luck to them.

Should we give LJ number 9 now that Acres is leaving? Same number as his idol Nic Nat.

Or he can have 2 now that Griff is leaving

Personally, Think 9 suits him and he would look great in it

Doesn't make it a good idea.

Still think selling the farm for a bloke who is only a 2nd ruck is batshit crazy.
Utility player

We are oozing talent on our list anyway so it aint selling the farm, 2 firsts will get it done

We have too much talent to play anyway, better off consolidating 2 firsts into one player with development in him and will fix an instant need (Lobbs role)

I still think freos list is insane good under 25 -

Brayshaw, serong, amiss, Chapman, young, Jackson, Darcy, odriscoll, Erasmus, Johnson, Cox, Brodie, Frederick.

That's the makings of a flag side right there.

Yeah and then the longer shot talents of Sturt and Henry who could provide so much class, both first rounders for a reason

Treacy shows promise even though he was a rookie too

Got a tonne of talent on our list right now so I don't mind paying overs for Jackson

I view the PSD in terms of net effect. The scenarios are:

1. Jackson to West Coast via PSD
West Coast gain Jackson
Melbourne lose Jackson
Fremantle unaffected

2. Jackson to Freo via trade
Melbourne lose Jackson but gain picks
Fremantle gain Jackson but lose picks
Eagles unaffected

This is why he won't end up in the PSD.

Melbourne HAVE to make a trade happen.

Freo and WCE will both happily pay despite the fanciful circle jerk in here. He clearly loves Melbourne FC and values being let go with good wishes. He’s not going to walk into the PSD.

So Freo offering Jackson between $6 an $7 million over 7 years, offering peanuts to best 22 players to fit him in and then missing out on him would leave Freo unaffected?

Not offering peanuts to players. Just not paying overs for players who have not been consistent in their performance.
We don’t trade Meek/Lobb if we don’t get Jackson.
Good luck to Acres who is being offered a contract way over value. I’d take it too. Watch the Carlton board melt when he has his first spud game.
Logue wants to play back and he can’t get a consistent game there at Freo so we tried to turn him into a forward. Good luck to him also.
