Rumour Busted Lynch to Melbourne

Next season is not last season. The true state of Melbourne's list has now been revealed. They are need of serious rebuilding and no veteran near the end of their career would willingly enter that situation. I'm not sure why Melbourne would even be interested in Lynch anyway, who has at most 2 years left. Do you think Melbourne will win a premiership in that time?
Nope, but his leadership would NOT hurt the development of some of our players

The true state of Melbourne's list has now been revealed.

Seriously?

So, nobody knew what kind of shape we were in after 186, and having lost our remaining games that year by an average of 55 points, with GC being the only exception, the only team we could beat at that point...

Yeah, that's the kind of thinking that helped get us into this mess in the first place.

Only going after players, and keeping players, based on whether they'd be with us when we were contending for a Premiership. Looking for shortcuts to success, rather than building up properly and ensuring all the fundamentals are in place.

The kind of logic that saw us not keeping James McDonald around for longer, as we should have. While focusing on draft picks too much, rather than concentrating all effort into ensuring the players we do have were developed in the best way possible.

No more.

So hell yes, we're interested in Lynch, because, apart from anything else, we know that having more capable experienced players in the lineup, more strong leadership within the team, makes for better all-round development of the squad as a whole.

The more of such people we can have around the side while our younger players are coming through, the better.

Well not yet anyway but sounds like his is off to the Dee's anyway according to SEN:rolleyes: for 2 years at 350k
I think the media just guess and if they guess enough times they are likely to get one right!

So just out of interest, in your opinion do MFC need more experienced players or are they good with where they're at after de-listing a fair bit of experience/retirements over the past few years?

WEll it's SEN and They are not Super Reliable but I think the Media guess with this stuff Most of the Time

I wouldnt think he's worth more than 200-250k tbh...If Collingwood have offered 350k over 2 years, I'd consider that a waste, especially considering he's not gonna be a game changer (or even a half decent contributor), when next year they'll need some cash to keep Daisy.

Bad move imo.

The Dee's would get the most use outta him.

I'm sure they do but that doesn't mean players will sign with them.

You're original comment was not sure why Melbourne would be interested in them though?

It was more an afterthought but yes I don't see much point in Melbourne signing Q.Lynch. You may feel differently and that's fine but I think you would be better off developing players who will provide you long term solutions. In 2 years time when Lynch retires you will still need a forward and you won't be any closer to a premiership. JMO.

Having experienced players is vital into taking young players and developing them to the next level. Although Lynch is old and wouldnt help much on field besides the couple of bags he may kick, the guy is a premiership player and has played with a couple of the best in the last 10 years...I think he has value at the Dee's...much more than anywhere else anyway.

But surely there needs to be a balance between playing kids and veterans? Playing some kid that doesn't deserve games just for the sake of it doesn't seem to really work (believe me we know). Having a standard to meet/exceed within your playing group surely helps player development?

Having players like Lynch and Clark in the team will assist in the development of the other players. It means that when a player like Fitzpatrick plays then he can take the 3rd tall role, much less pressure, he'll also have two quality people to learn what's needed to be a good player.

Lynch would be a very valuable asset to our development and I hope we sign him.

I can see why Melbourne would sign Lynch. For youth to develop they need experienced hard bodies in the clinches to protect them.

The question is why would Lynch want to go to what's basically an absolute rabble.

I guess the same reason Judd went to Carlton when he did. Minus the extra brown paper bags delivered to his house weekly obviously:)

$$$$$

follow in the great footsteps of mitch clark.

Let's be honest, if Lynch was looking for success he'd stay at West Coast.

He knows his time is almost up and he wants to set himself up a bit - I don't see a problem with that.

nor do i.

i would be taking the best offer presented to me.

Obviously is. Guessing winning another flag isn't foremost in his mind. Collingwood's always a show, Carlton a "maybe", probably enough to keep a player interested at least.

Go to collingwood or carlton, decent sized salary, play a bad game, accused of being the reason for losing, fans hate you, your reputation becomes known as the worst player in a good team, you are a complete waste of money, your career really has no meaning....but on the upside have 1 good game/moment and you're a god.

Go to Melbourne, probably a more attractive salary, no high expectations as your club sucks, list is mostly young kids with talent...you could make it your mission to help them get better through sharing your expericence with them, suddenly your career has meaning.

I know which I would chose...but then again I'm the type of person that sadly cares what people think about me.

I don't know where he's going.
But over the last 2 or 3 days he has certainly moved around a lot further and faster than he ever did on a footy field.

Oh, things certainly could've been worse.

See?

I don't know about you, but that always makes me feel better :D

PS- Yeah, Jim did kinda beg for what we call a "proportionate response" ;)
