Didnt you sign jack martin at a million a year?
And refused to deal in good faith, we asked for a 2nd rounder and the Blues said you must be joking he’s rubbish, we are only paying him a million next year

It's actually a pretty horrible deal and such a classic Suns move. He has all the talent in the world but he's still a potential piece.

$13 million contract for a guy averaging 14 touches, 3 clangers, 0.75 contested marks and has kicked 9 goals (obviously mainly playing back).
he's already better than Ugle-Hagan who had 4 touches in a season defining final and goes missing for weeks at a time.

I think the deal is fine. Better to have him than not have him. Hell the dees have Oliver on a mill and Petracca who is torching the place down on a mill.

He also plays with natural fire in the belly.

Shattering for the dees.

Hawks and Demons apparently offering more, there is a lot to like about Mac, time will tell, just like it did for Jack Martin

He looks like he'll be a good player but $1.3mil a season ??

As someone else earlier in the thread suggested, how are some of the better Suns playrs going to react when their contract renewals come up ??

I can really see Rowell just accepting a mere pittance for all his hard bullocking work in the midfield.

I think it is irresponsible management to give him so much up front when he has not made the same sport of contributions others have. By all means, stagger it with annual increases to get it up there but make sure it is in line with his longevity & output.

Don't let the facts get in the way of your imagination.

First of all, I never wanted Martin and still don't.

However, our club, in its infinite wisdom, signed that "lemon" to a multi-year deal somewhere around $600K per annum but decided to front-load the deal so he got some ridiculous amount in his first year (mooted to be close to $2mill) and then has been paid chump change for the remaining years.
And what, wasn't professional enough to stay on the park? Shocker!

As has already been stated, $1.3mil PA going forward is about the equivalent of $730K PA, ten or eleven years ago.

Would you have thought $730K PA was anything outrageous for one of the most exciting 200cm young players in the game back then?

Everyone needs to get their heads around the fact that the salary cap has gone up massively and is continuing to go up.

Individual salaries will therefore be going way up as well.

Harley Reid will be on $2mil PA on his next deal.

As far as I know no media mentioned structure of the contract. Did I miss up fronting or you speculate?

No, you are not missing anything at all.

We will never know the full details of the deal and can only speculate on it but if he hits the triggers and it goes the full distance, then the average per annum is $1.3mil which is astronomical money in anyone's language.

I'm suggesting it may have been better, if they were so hellbent on giving him the 9 or 10 years, then have yearly increases in the base to ensure he maintains his productivity.

I can't, in any rational thought process, come up with a plausible reason as to why a player who is about to complete his third season in the game should be paid that much.

As a matter of interest, which other players in the competition are getting paid over a $mill per annum and not with front or back loading involved ??

What has the value ten years ago got to do with anything ?? :drunk:

If he was to be paid $730K now I'd say that's a good payday and gives him some incentives to kick-on. Paying him double that is one of the more sillier deals I've heard of.
