That was what I was thinking after the game. I think the hype might have gotten into the players heads and they've forgotten that we're starting from scratch again, no matter what the predictions are. .
Its up to the Head Coach to ensure this is not the case, and that all his charges are switched on and fully motivated.
How fired up did Williams have Port after Williams had been talking the talk all week and even taking pot shots at us as a team. He even gave CC the ammo?

Preaching to the choir. I do believe a little part of me died today. My belief in the game with the rules being so soft physicality is almost completely banned and my belief that Freo can win the flag, that Freo are contenders and that we won't just be dished up the same old crap, that there is justice and a time for all and that this was our time to do well. That for all the crap we cop from mindless bogan twats from West Coast and Port we would have a time to shine and that there is some form of positive left and that Freo will step-up and dispell the disrespect. That part died today, and once again I'm left wondering why do I bother being hopeful?

If somebody can answer me that I will be forever greatful. For the meantime Go the Cowboys and hopefully Freo can lift next week and create a run that will make up for one absolutely below woeful performance.

I feel the same way. They promise so much and always seem to let you down. I hate to compare but do you ever hear Worsfold talking about premierships ? He always speaks about work rate and what they did or didn't do well. The players when asked if the Cousins affair was motiving factor, they always reply with if you need movitation from external factors then you are not trying in the first place and not giving your best all the time.

I wish that Connelly just shut his mouth about success and talk about the things that makes you successful like work rate, skills, smarts, disciple and character.

The Dockers will be motivated next week and win well but in the end of the day that don't give their every week.

What good is the ammo without a gun?

Probably didn't think he had to, shows a lack of respect for the opposition. A dangerous stance no matter how bad they're going (or expected to go) and we saw that yesterday.

Comparing the teams, you'd expect a minimum of a five goal victory. They probably got ahead of themselves and were listening to AC/DC in the car on the way to Subi.

Unfortunately, it blew up in their face.

I thought that they were switched on for the first hafl and the start of the 3/4 QTR.

I then found myself hoping it would be a harder closer game as the last thing We needed was a soft victory going forwards.

Little did I know.

Port did have an incredible purple patch in the 3rd Qtr , everything just went so incredibly right for them but full credit to them for making the most of it.

It is not the end of the world and there were plenty of good signs.

Bring on the Bombres. :thumbsu:

We're listening to different comments by CC. Mostly I'm hearing him say the things you are wanting to hear. Personally i don't care what he says. I don't think it makes a difference. Only interested in how the team performs, and we were beaten. CC was outcoached. The players let themselves down. They are experienced now and beyond needing a coach to "fire them up", or should be.

We definitely missed the extra height of Johnson down back, and we were thrashed at the bouncedowns, especially in the second half. Forwards are still learning how to play together, Wiz's stupidity costing us badly.

I've just about had e-f*cking-nough of these rubbish starts.

There's NO ****ING REASON why we lost that, NO ****ING REASON AT ALL!!!

For ****S SAKE!
I am with you on this big fella. we were pitiful after qtr time. Port wanted it more and we played like a bunch of regulars who frequent connections nite club. Chris Connolly was pathetic in the coaches box . Plan A went well Williams rolled the dice, and Connolly was shown not to have plan B in place.

Gee whizz you would have thought you lost a grand final. Heads up you lot - its probably not such a bad thing (1 - to lose at home and 2 - to a team not highly fancied). It will give the players something to think about and they will most certainly lift and avoid any complacency.

It is 1 game. Pav was quality as was Solomon, J. Carr and Sandilands. I still have you lot comfortably in the top 4..

Obviously not playing like people who are on gear taken at nightclubs.

The way we played yesterday a foot has been put right up the arse of some players and the coaching staff. Footy is about getting your hands dirty and doing your utmost to win. Yesterday we saw frontrunners. The team who got their hands dirty got the 4 points.

if you can't take us losing with four regular midfielders out and farmer Bell inj, drum first midfield game there etc.etc to a team itching to pay us back all summer for the round 22 flogging last year then go up the road.I'm disappointed but FFS its not the end of the world\year.people say CC was out coached?but no one says he should of done this or done that? Why do most people expect players to never be beaten by an opponent?Im more dissapointed at the reaction of this board than the lost.
I'm still confident we'll be there and Im with you rip bring on the bombers

Our 22 was still vastly superior to ports in ability. It was at our home ground, where we need to win atleast 9, probably 10 games to make the top four. Port were missing Treadrea and Burgoyne, 2 of their top 5 players so we weren't the only side missing quality players.

If we can't win when senior players are out should we forfeit if Pav gets suspended?

I don't mind our players being beaten by superior footballers, I have a problem when we are beaten by a team that is more desperate.

Surely when a team concedes 10 goals in a quarter and loses after leading by 6 goals in the 3rd quarter the coach has been beaten?

Our backline was murdered by a bunch of nobodies in the third quarter.

If you're not angry about yesterdays performance you should head up the road, there are plenty of part time supporters there. Or head to dockerland, I'm sure everything looks rosie over there.

It's certainly not season over, but our next 5 games (eagles and crows at home, bombers, brisbane and melbourne away) will all be tougher than port at subi. Hopefully it will be a wake up call, but if our players aren't chomping at the bit for round one then the inconsistency of the last 3 seasons is bound to continue.

Oh this is just priceless. :D

"most ill-disciplined" - whose fault is that?

"uncertain of the new interpretations." - gee, imagine if they didn't get all those goals from free kicks before the maggots put the whistles away!!

Enjoy.

You ****. You kicked about 7 or 8 goals directly from free kicks that shouldnt have been paid. Did you even watch the game?

Under the new rules the umpires have a lot more say in the outcome of the game, with more opportunities to call a 50/50 or let it slide. Add in the prescence of powers such as the Freemasons in football and we have a recipe for a farce.

Spot on!

The Bombers are going great guns today as well!

Have you ever run down a steep hill so fast that you couldn't keep up with yourself. Well that's the way i saw the dockers performance yesterday. Obviously they had been told to move the ball quickly but after half time they lost the groove and were all over the shop.

They should have slowed things down again and found there rhythm and built from there in the second half, but they just kept going full pace like headless chickens until the end of the game.

IMO they set out to play a certain way (move the ball quickly) and it was more important for them to win the game in that fashion/style of play than to just win the game. They wanted a stylish 4 points rather than just a plain old 4 points. Not sure they would have set out to do this against a better team.

Yeah true, but at quarter time I was calling for a 200 point game. lol, i need to change brands of crystal balls.
