Re: Matt Rendall...

All you had to say. I am sorry, I shouldn't of said that, in hindsight I realised it was a stupid thing to say and this is not my intention. My intention is...
and that would've been fine. But he didn't.

The underseeded of racism is fairly permutated in the minds of people still in this country.

Cry me a River ..you obviously have a huge chip on your shoulder .

Anyone who watched that interview and heard Rendells side of the story would never come away thinking he was a racist or being untruthfull...he spoke passionately and from the Heart .

Caro and demitriou came across as insensitive low lifes, with zero credibility.

What Matt Rendell said was not racist ...just a bad analogy.

Would he have been sacked if he hadn't made the jibe about how useless GWS was going to be? :p

still cant understand why it wasn't kept in house..

AFL clearly seeking positive PR in the wake of the Jurrah story. Mifsud's out-of-context dropping of the quote in the media, when he'd have known full well that Rendell was in the gun, was the tipping point.

The AFL has done a lot of great work towards countering racism but such artificial grandstanding has the potential to cause the public to cast a cynical eye at anything emanating from AFL House in future.

Triggs interview on 5aa paints a somewhat different picture than Rendell did last night. He said it was more than one comment, not just one throw away line, and the two AFL officers were extremely upset with what was said in the meeting.

Trigg said he realises Rendell isn't a racist and doesn't hold racist views but that his job was simply untenable after what was said. Said he had spoken to Mifsud at great lengths - so he is someone who has obviously heard both sides of the story and this is the action he has chosen to take.

I would be very interested to hear Mifsuds side of the story.

See, that is just crap.

He isn't a racist...but his job is untebable. It is one or the other.

I wouldn't believe a single word that comes out of Trigg's mouth anymore.

Yet he wouldn't allow Rendell the opportunity to clear his name. He was quoted last night as saying, "It's too late for that now" - in other words, the decision came from above, it's out of my hands, your only options are to walk or for me to sack you but I'd prefer you to resign to avoid bringing a shitstorm down on the club.

Interesting twitter exchange:

Someone tweeted Mifsud the following:
"@jason_mifsud Mate, you've shown great courage this past week. Hopefully lots of good will come of it. And you will not be persecuted. Dazza"

He replied:
"@DarylAdair thanks mate. Complex situation. Some understand, most don't but overall it's the right thing."

Adelaide really didn't have a say in it. The AFL directive was along the lines of sack him (or force him to resign) or we won't be giving you any money for the next XX years.

No it is isn't! One or two stupid commetns don't make you a racist but they can effect your employment. Sometimes discretion is the better part of valour.

For starters my stance is very much in Rendell's corner.

It is a little too self-fulfilling to say "well the mud is going to stick so you have to go". Unfortunately there aren't a lot of courgeous people out there who are willing to be principled.

Adelaide should have asked Rendell for the full story and, if satisfied, should have told the world to **** off. Not one Adelaide person would have had a bad word to say about the club and based on what has happened on these boards very few people AFL wide would have had a problem.

All that has happened now is that Adelaide has thrown one of its own to the wolves. Had the club sat tight and sent Rendell to FC as an Adelaide employee would anything have changed? Is Adelaide any less racist now? By the rationale displayed aren't they still just as racist for being associated with the guy? Now they are racist and spineless.

I really just don't think it works that way.

Looks like the AFL have hung Adelaide out to dry again today and now have gagged them...

Gagged? Their CEO was just on the radio giving a conflicting version of events to those of Rendell.

Was he asked;
1 What were the other comments?
2 If the 2 AFL officials were so upset why did they seemingly take no action on the matter for a period of 2 months? and
3 Would Rendell have been sacked if he hadn't resigned?

Said he had spoken to Mifsud at great lengths -

Grant Thomas on Footy Classified indicated that he had spoken to Mifsud and the impression I got was that Mifsud was placed in an uncomfortable position by AD after a passing reference to the matter in a presentation to the AFL Executive.

There appeared to be no great angst (according to Thomas) from Mifsud on the matter and both Thomas & Rendell stated that the friendship between all 3 remained intact.

Again I would have thought it brought into question Trigg's assertion that the 2 AFL officers were "extremely upset".

Didn't watch Footy Classified, I don't like getting angry watching TV and Caro does it in spades, I did watch On The Couch.
Going by the first 1/2 doz pages on this subject and what I read in the paper it seems Rendell was pretty well stiched with the AFL, Vlad Dim in particular, jumping the gun to try and make a point and anyones expense but there own.

Vlad carried on like a total Bully Politician or union boss trying to make it sound like the AFL , him, did nothing wrong and had really nothing to do with the whole fiasco except for making a little suggestion to Adelaide FC.

Vlads version - I just suggested to the Adelaide football club they get Matt in and ask his version of events. They did that then asked him to go away and "think about what he said" then come back and see if he changed his mind which he hadn't so he resigned, simple as that.

More likely version - Listen here Adelaide there is a person in your admin that is making me "the AFL" look silly and racist. His name is Matt Rendell and I want him gone, I don't care how just get it done. We can make life very difficult for you so make sure you get this done for me.

That's what I mean, Adelaide also said, they will not be commenting on the subject again...!

It's now up to us everyday people to bring Andrew to account for the sacking of Rendell and numerous other things that have been swept under the carpet...
