Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

So your view is that Max was confused by an overload of instruction and was making a poor decision when he missed an easy kick inside 50 hitting up a player who would have had an uncontested marking opportunity? It wasn't even a decision issue, what he was trying to do was fine, it was just a basic skill error.

What you're saying is definitely happening, but it doesn't explain everything that is going wrong. Even if everything was in perfect alignment with the gameplan you still have to execute basic skills.

That said if you want to blame the coach for people missing basic kicks that's fine. Personally I don't think there's much Nicks can do about it, but there's other things he should be able to fix.
He’s destroyed their confidence and now they are shutting themselves when they get the ball. Why do you think Max is missing targets this year that he didn’t last year?

Nicks presser, players aren't at their best, system is back, structure was good
If the system was back, wouldn't we expect to see evidence of that in the game?

Players fail to execute when they lack time

Time is limited by pressure and by hesitation and confusion - overthinking

A player not sure what to do runs out of time and muffs the kick.

We've been the most heavily pressured side this year. Mostly because we move the ball short and slow and don't put the opposition out of positions so they can't pressure us.

Nicks is what he is.

And the next coach will be what he will be.

But please, Crows fans, for the love of God, direct your vitriol to the right people.

How many coaches & CEOs do we need to go through before people realize what the source of the problem is?

Nicks loves to blame the players

YOU SELECT THE ******* PLAYERS
That's the frustrating bit. Blames the players, but then refuses to make changes. So we have a coach who says the players he's selecting aren't getting the job done, but also a coach who is then saying by not making changes his preference is to play under/non performing players because he values team continuity over performance.

It's more effort over talent nonsense.

I just want to know how was our shape, because that was the buzz word this week.

From Section 531, the shape was pretty shite for most of the night!
Nah you're wrong. Shape was spot on tonight. Structure was back too. Players' fault.

Is it sauce in the fridge?

Reporter: What happened in the off-season and pre-season to lead to such a drop-away in the form and confidence of all of your players?
Nicks: Well, you see, uh ... the Limes Germanicus was a series of frontier fortifications that helped defend Roman regions within Germanic lands between 83 to approximately 260 AD

**** me if Nicks didn't completely duck answering the question regarding specifics as to what has led to the complete death of the players' skills and confidence this year.

So what Nicks was saying tonight was we made 5 changes but those players are just as shit and out of form as the 5 that went out, What a joke!

Any chance we can bring back Sando for a spike or bring Neil Craig out of retirement?

Its groundhog day. This has been going on for 20 years. Our problems are board down including our inept coaching brigade. The main protagonists that need to go that will make the quickest impact are Olsen, Roo, Kelly, Ogilvie, Reid, Nicks, VB, Burns, Godden, the port bloke. After that the entire board needs to be shown the door. Bunch of useless campaigners.

Let's present the facts in front of Nicks.

  • Haven't won a game.
  • Barring a miracle, the season is shot.
  • You used to play daring, open footy that resulted in being the highest attacking side and a win for every loss
  • Now you play slow, dour chip footy that has resulted in no wins for every loss.
  • You've let, by the end of the third qtr, 4 teams now build unassailable leads.
  • You've mounted a mini, though fruitless, comeback late in 3 of the 4 games by throwing out plan A and just going for it.

What do you do?
Do you sniff a little bit from history ie last season and just open it all back up?
Do you see the potential in those spurts in the last qtr and think there might be something to all that?

Surely at some point Nicks needs to come to the realisation that even if the players fully understand his system they arent skilled enough to execute on it. We see that time and time again with the most basic of kicks missing targets.

Surely at some point Nicks needs to realise that he has nothing else to lose and he just needs to go for it. I mean really go for it. For 4 qtrs.

Right?

**** me.

Right?

* me.
It doesn't matter what nicks does if the players don't believe in him. Once that happens either the coach leaves or players leave. Pretty simple.
