  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

The nuff is strong on Facebook

He's most probably part of the Crows Pride Forum on FB, they're the biggest bunch of sycophant cheerleaders I've ever seen.

99% of them most probably think that Nicks is the best coach in the AFL.

Well, to be fair, you've got commentators like David King that think Nicks is a very good coach and it's just a lack of talent holding him back. It's not just confined to the Facebook people.

Yes David King says that and then criticises his selections and gameplan, but he does think he’s a very good coach :drunk:

Feels very similar to when we re-signed Sando after our 2012 season, thinking we weren't far away, only to then struggle in 2013 and 2014 before getting the sack and paying him out. If this season heads in a similar trajectory to 2013, maybe Nicks survives, but he's cooked if it continued into 2025.

I wonder if Buckley could be enticed away from the media and back into senior coaching? No idea if he even wants to leave Melbourne, but would be worth a call. He seems to have a good grasp on our list and current issues from what I've heard on SEN.

So Nicks had coffee with David King yesterday.

He disagreed with Kings comments about our vanilla midfield. So if he’s not going to take on board Kings analysis, then why the coffee? To shut him up? To get him to like him so he supports him?

Well the latter seems to have worked. He reckons Nicks is a good coach and it’s lack of talent. This besides King criticising our midfield mix, selections and game plan, all fair given Nicks wouldn’t have control over any of that….

Same happened with Blight last year, it’s embarrassing.

King has been saying he thinks Nicks is a good coach well before the coffee catchup, no need to make up stuff that isn't there. You also left out that Nicks did actually show him some vision of plays where he thinks our issues are stemming from, it wasn't a one sided discussion.

Did Nicks just use that Kane Cornes video and overlay his voice?

"I know the side I'm coaching" :drunk: :drunk:

**** off Nicks you fraud.

Getting pretty angry at Nicks there, no idea why people get personal on stuff like this when you clearly wouldn't say that to his face. He seems like a coach that was good for a group rebuilding and trying to repair a culture destroyed after 2017 (look at how many continue to sign long term deals now versus even years that we were contending); however, isn't the right coach to take the next step into finals. That's fine, it doesn't make him a fraud.

Any of them post here?

Who knows, I haven't followed that group in years.

I did have an interesting run-in/argument with one of the women that posted on there once back in the Sando days (I recognised her face because she was a constant poster on there)

I was giving the players and Sanderson a piece of my mind at the race after the game and the exchange went as follows....

Her "You should be supporting them rather than abusing them, it's disgusting. Go and support Port if you want to act like that"

Me "If you want to stand there praise and clap them off after they have played like garbage then go and support Freo, they love that sort of stuff. I'd rather have supporters at this club that refuse to accept performances like that"

How can King think Nicks is a good coach if he criticises selection, team placement and game plan? All fundamentals of coaching.

And yes he’s previously said Nicks was a good coach, to still believe that with what he’s produced this year whilst criticising his coaching is a bit odd isn’t it?

Do you think Nicks is a good coach?

There's the possibility that Nicks is some sort of coaching Adam Richardson.

Zero chance of any actual success at AFL level. But a mind of unparalleled football acumen when compared to everybody else?

Did everybody clap?

He’s got the players tight and enjoying each other’s company, Thanks Mathew it’s now time to move on before our young guys lose their passion and don’t plateau out which we are starting to see

Too late.
Im thinking this happened over pre- season.

Seems to me that Nicks has done what we needed him to do and now thanks to the clubs own inadequacies and lack of understanding, we are in this mess.

Nicks came in and helped build the team spirit within the playing group, which helped with our retention issues that we have had over the past decade or so. However, it seems he is lacking in other areas that make a decent or even acceptable coach. Those running the club also don't have much of a clue it seems. I remember there being an article from the club or someone involved with the club saying that the rebuild was "done". When I heard this it made me feel concerned, as clearly it isn't done. You only have to look at our list and depth to see that we are lacking talent and depth in many positions.

I fear we are going to become like Carlton or Melbourne of 10 years ago, unless the club's able to identify the issues, and recruit the best possible for our off field roles.

To be fair, we are now 0-4, very likely to be 0-5 and possibly 0-7. What possible purpose is there in keeping Nicks regardless of whether they signed him up. For the long term, I'd happily take the soft cap hit if we had to pay him out less any performance triggers to get someone else in who we think can take this group forward again with a better idea of a game plan and counter game plans for when the oppo counter us. We now run the real risk of hurting player development in what should be an upward trend of results and performances.

There is literally nothing to be gained by keeping nicks on now in my opinion

The crap that comes out of his mouth coupled with his obvious inability to Coach makes him a fraud.

He could not rock up to work for the rest of the season and I doubt anyone would know. That makes him a fraud.

And in the end we became Freo

Agree

I posted that instead of re-signing we could have made him senior assistant to the next coach

It could have been sold exactly as you mentioned by highlighting his ability to connect with the players.

I mean it could still be done but it's a very hard sell now

' the club understands this is an odd move but we also recognize the reality of where we are . We applaud what Matthew has brought over the last 5 years but we feel it's time to finish the move towards a premiership '
