Getting pretty angry at Nicks there, no idea why people get personal on stuff like this when you clearly wouldn't say that to his face. He seems like a coach that was good for a group rebuilding and trying to repair a culture destroyed after 2017 (look at how many continue to sign long term deals now versus even years that we were contending); however, isn't the right coach to take the next step into finals. That's fine, it doesn't make him a fraud.
I agree he doesn't deserve personal abuse.

He's tried his best.

Unfortunately he's not up to it. Too many players have regressed, including one of the absolute best players in the league. He'll probably slide back into an assistant role somewhere.

Thank him for his service and move him (and others) on.

I've been thinking about what might be the biggest issues we are currently facing. We could point to drafting and recruiting etc..., but in the end I think the biggest cause of our problems is - over coaching.

Think about Rachele when he first arrived. Think about the energy, confidence and enthusiasm he had. He was bubbling, fast and dangerous.
Watch him now. He's struggling. He looks slower. He looks nervous and confused. His confidence is gone. We did that.

We do it all the time. We did it to Jones to the point that he couldn't figure out if he should get the ball or wait - for an entire season.

I suspect our coaches are very ordinary. Maybe below average thinkers. To compensate they think the answer is to over analyse and criticise players for every action. They think they are therefore working hard as a 'coach'. Whereas a good coach understands what each player needs. Some need criticism, some need encouragement. Some need reminders only.
I don't think any of our coaches are smart enough for this.

I don't think our drafting has been good - there are some very obvious howlers. But, I also don't think it's as bad as it looks because our development of players is atrocious.

We sacked Godden and then re-employed him to coach SANFL. Bit he’s somehow wormed his way back into the AFL system. We know he’s not up to it, so why is he still hanging around?

Agree

I posted that instead of re-signing we could have made him senior assistant to the next coach

It could have been sold exactly as you mentioned by highlighting his ability to connect with the players.

I mean it could still be done but it's a very hard sell now

' the club understands this is an odd move but we also recognize the reality of where we are . We applaud what Matthew has brought over the last 5 years but we feel it's time to finish the move towards a premiership '
The issue is those at our club for the past couple of decades haven't strayed too far off the accepted line of thought. Our club is now in no mans land, and needs some tough decisions to be made, both on and off field. I'm just not sure who at the club presently understands the reality of the clubs situation and if there's anyone able to make those tough calls.

What even is his role these days?

Yep

Its such an incestuous club that any moves will have repercussions in sleepy ole Adelaide

He’s actually coaching the inexperienced coaches as well as taking up an AFL game day role

But he was only 2 things at AFL level, 1 - an abject failure and 2 - inexperienced. He should have never been allowed to influence our young talent, let alone other coaches. Effing Adam Kelly, what an idiot.

We do seem to like to hire from our own, but part of me does wonder if we are just unable to attract those with the necessary quality, and to save face we magically promote the perfect candidate from within.

We only recruit applicants who align with our philosophies and where we believe we’re at. If Clarko or Roos offered to coach us free of charge but said our midfield is a problem and we’d need to break it up by trading Laird and Crouch, they’d be marched out of the interview by security.

A fun little stat in regards to our dreadful game plan and ball movement.

We have taken 26 marks inside 50 in four games. West Coast - one of the worst teams ever seen - have taken 27 in 3. Port Adelaide managed to take 25 in a single game.

We are that bad.

Nicks presser, players aren't at their best, system is back, structure was good
We are not going anywhere if Nick's is delusional.

Need to have awareness or issues if you are going to fix them.

Unfortunately I'm not seeing great signs of intelligence from the coaching group.

Nicks loves to blame the players

YOU SELECT THE ******* PLAYERS
... particularly players who have been out of form for weeks.

Can't survive if soft at the selection table.

Fine to back players in after a bad game, but not several as ruins selection integrity & poor for culture.

Sorry mate, he's just no good.

What 'culture' is there now at the Crows? ... Ive seen more culture in a tub of yoghurt.

I mean he is a fraud if he's telling people he's the right man for the job but it's no different to anyone else talking up their abilities in a job interview. It would have been a victimless crime if our admin had done their job properly.

Got nothing at all against Nicks personally, seems a lovely guy.

My issue is that his coaching is fraudulent.

5 years into a rebuild and we are 0 - 4. Time to try someone else. Anyone.

We aren't a team that takes contested aerial marks. It's 1 on 1 bodywork or on a lead or bust. Bombing it high doesn't play to our forward's strength and in fact it actually exposes their biggest weakness so why do we do it?
