Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

  • Firmly no (he should be sacked)

This comment about his reluctance to try anyone new this year so far from his presser today is very concerning and should be setting off alarm bells for anyone with a brain at AFC:
Are you reluctant to blood new players? No not all and we wanna make sure we do that at the right time for the individual and for the team - so if a player from a lower level is ready to go they will come in to our side if they are ready and live the values we need to live

Values we need to live? Like playing an injured and out of form senior player in Brodie Smith, who then admits he probably shouldn't have played?

That's right Nicks, have a go at the fans. See how that goes for you

Anyone can watch SANFL matches Matthew. And they do. And they see players who deserve a run at AFL level
That was an absolute trainwreck of a comment, even for Nicks it surprised me to hear him question fans on whether they watch the SANFL.

Remember these comments from Roo just before Pyke got the sack? https://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/27460817/ricciuto-sorry-crows-fans-backlash

There is definitely some cracks happening internally, even in the club keep saying all is perfect. Once club officials start having a go at the supporter base, they are definitely feeling the heat.

Is there anyone left that disputes this?

As Slippery has repeatably said the morons in our board room extended this guy - they are the real culprits of our demise.

People really need to start referring to these individuals.

Why do we let them get away with being faceless?

We’ve got 165 pages on Nicks, and not a single page anywhere on the people who just extended his contract.

“So for those calling for players to play I hope they are watching the SANFL and not just reacting to what’s happening in the AFL”

The club has been under the mistaken impression for decades that SANFL form — good or bad — actually means something.

This is what people with clipboards, laptops and spreadsheets think.

People who actually understand the game and have football instinct do not think this.

You know what I'd value? Winning a game or two.

Yep, grab a deckchair and an esky and sit there watching while it burns down. He's giving the board more and more ammo to get rid of him.

Wow watching it now:

“Dowling knows he’s got things to work on”
“But if I asked Billy if he wants to play he’d jump at it”
“We have players in the SANFL with stuff to work on”
“So for those calling for players to play I hope they are watching the SANFL and not just reacting to what’s happening in the AFL”

Right so only players in the SANFL have stuff to work on. Ignore the s**t out of form players in the AFL, watch for the deficiencies in our SANFL players.
Can someone please either email the club or plaster that last comment all over their social posts and ask whether it is acceptable for the senior coach to be questioning the intelligence of the supporter base? That has got me seriously angry.

The club also picks and chooses when SANFL form matters

Young player who has never played before? Yep better have 3 months of elite SANFL performances before you'll be considered

David Mackay or Lachlan Murphy? We'll bring you back after playing 1 or 0 SANFL matches regardless of how you perform

I was more concerned about the implication that everyone we have in the SANFL now is playing shit and not good enough for AFL.

His rhetoric more and more seemes to be about shifting as much responsibility as he feels he can away from himself and onto the players. Whether it's true or not I don't think it's a great way to lead.

These are the exact quotes from the presser when questioned about reluctance to try anyone new (got a transcript off YouTube) - spam the club with these and question why a 1-5 team is immune to change and that club officials should be very careful about angering a supporter base when the team is performing poorly

Q: Are you reluctant to blood new players this year? A: No not at all and you know we want to make sure we do that at the right time for the individual, uh and for the team, so we you know if a player at a lower level's ready to go they'll come into our side if they're able to play and live the values that we need to live. The last thing we want to do is bring a player in that's not ready for that... um at this point in time even our guys that are in the team are working on making sure the focus is right going into games, prioritizing what needs to be prioritized and that's you know when our supporters watch us play they expect to see a contest, they expect to see us go hard. They didn't see that on the weekend so rightfully so they should be disappointed.

Q: A lot of supporters are clamouring to see the likes of Dowling finally get a game and it's not yet happening that elevation A: Yeah look, Billy's knocking on the door and he's a chance to play, has been spoken about you know for a few weeks now... um Billy's the first to say he's still working on his game... um and he gets that and wants to make sure he's ready to go as well... in saying that, if I said to Billy right now you're in he would he would jump at the chance but he's still working on areas of his game as are others that at the SANFL level... um so those people that are that are chomping at the bit to get Billy into our team, let's make sure we are watching SANFL as well and maybe not just disappointed with what we're seeing at AFL level.

He says 'um' and 'yeah' a lot, I've tried my best to polish it up a bit.

I think we put Curtin on McBean so that he'd get beaten and shut people up

"Chomping at the bit" made me laugh.
