Opinion Matthew Nicks: Adelaide's Coach (Part 2) - Full Support of the Board

Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

  • Firmly no (he should be sacked)

He is extremely adept at talking a lot without saying anything. Politics should be his next grift after he is sacked. I can see how he conned our selection group dummies of Roo, Kelly, Silvers during the interview process. He has the spin down pat of just continually talking while shifting blame from himself. This is politicial 101 next level s**t.

Hes starting to remind me of Birdman.

Nicks is 10x worse than neil craig.

Tactically nicks is atrocious.
Craig developed a game plan which had us sitting near/on top of the ladder at times.

I have seen nothing from Nicks to suggest he could match what Craig developed.

We’ll lose this.

Nicks sacked.

Caretaker wins the showdown.
Sadly it's worth losing the game to the wooden spoon team for this outcome.

Assume the board makes the decision on this:

5 board members should go given the majority think Nick deserved an extension.

They have clearly demonstrated they make poor key decisions.

We need a strong smart football person like Balme or Blight on our board who understands that winning a flag needs to be the priority.

I would love to know precisely what each of those Board members apparently brings to the table.

What skills, knowledge, connections do that have that can translate into a winning AFL side?
Absolutely.

We appear to lack people who have a good understanding of football.

Can someone please either email the club or plaster that last comment all over their social posts and ask whether it is acceptable for the senior coach to be questioning the intelligence of the supporter base? That has got me seriously angry.
I’m watching both AFL and SANFL teams and for the life of me can’t work out how players like McHenry are continually selected above the likes of Dowling or even Peds let alone trying Curtin.

Is Nicks watching the sanfl?

Agreed. He's also not fit to tie Ayres bootlaces.

Which just leaves Robert Shaw - you would think it's not exactly a high bar to clear...

Right now his winning percentage is even worse (33.7% vs 34.6%). That's including Shaw's awful years at Fitzroy (Shaw's tenure at the Crows was 38.6%).
That is damning!

A 35% winning rare in his last 20 games is hardly what you jump the gun to extend him for another 2 years, rather than having a wait & see.

It's why now some of the board need to go too as clearly they are incompetent.

I'd say he is worse than Shaw.

My concern is this year will be explained away as the dip you have when you ""bed in a new structure " and " wait till next year for the spike"
If we had a 10 win season, maybe.

Regressing back to the bottom four is untenable however. I'm guessing he gets sacked with a month left in the season.

Yeah, I think we should target him.

Think he would be better coach 2nd time around.

Good to listen to as a good student of the game.
Will be one of very few times where Roo could do something good in his tenure on the board, given his strong relationship with Buckley.

Something like that would take a ton of leg work to pull off and there's no way we're in the process of doing that after committing to Nicks for two more years only a couple of weeks ago

This year?

Surely not.

Setting a low bar if he did.
Yes, he said we showed signs, returned to how we want to play, Melbourne very strong side, then when we beat Carlton he used how we played against Melbourne and Carlton as we had some momentum.

Today he’s saying we only won by 1 kick against Carlton, basically saying we didn’t perform that well.

The bloke has no ****ing idea what he’s said, saying and constantly contradicts himself. He’s Hinkley’s apprentice without the minor round wins.

A complete fraud.
