Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide's rebuild?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

I did like how he talked about wanting to take the game to sides as well. Maybe we'll stop trying to coach the natural aggression out of every player that walks in with a bit of an edge to them.
We now have Fog , ROB and Billy Boy who all don't mind putting the hurt into the opposition . That excites !!

i've got little doubt if he wasn't appointed head coach of afc, this time next year Port would've appointed him their senior coach.
Senior assistant or head coach?

I thought Schofield was next in line when Hinkley's contract finishes.

It just all feels so... so Sando like
Let’s hope Jones gets that handball over to Sloane in the dying seconds of the Prelim after a good run with the umpiring throughout the game. We go on to win the flag. Cruise through trade period this time next year without too many issues. Then the season after, the high flying Fogarty doesn’t land awkwardly on his knee against Carlton early in the season and miss 12 months. Oh, what might’ve been!? What might be?

Completely and utterly underwhelmed by him.

But having a shit coach when we're going to be bottom 4 is no big deal really, hopefully someone better is available in 3 years when he gets the boot.
I thought the said all the right things just like you would expect from a slippery new manager

All the talk about relationships is consistent with a transparent AFC media sales job, just like the dishonest videos from the 2019 pre season which many of us thought meant we had a happy group once again.

Says finals are won in the contest, which is simply untrue, but supporters like to hear it

My impression is that he is exactly the kind of slippery snake who says all the right things that I would expect our administration of slippery snakes who say all the right things would hire

With that said obviously hope I am totally wrong and he’s a great success

That’s a very cynical view

From memory there was excitement early on with Clarko.

Like Fagan at Brisbane the energy was obvious even if the wins took some time to arrive
There wasn’t in his first year when they kept losing games like the previous few years.

Why can’t there be the same excitement with Nicks? Seems like a genuine bloke who you can take on his word, just needs to back it up with actions on and off field now.

Sorry! I genuinely did not previously see our footy club that way until the last couple of years. I am definitely not Roo’s 1 percent of haters.

The first break happened with the Riley Knight “managed” episode. I said there’s no way we would lie about an injury for no reason other than to try to avoid looking bad? Especially in such a transparent manner because the lie would be obvious after one week? It turns out that is exactly what we did.

The second break was the 2019 pre season videos of the happy smiling players. Everyone is happy now! Look now they are playing volleyball! Don’t worry about the camp! Again it was not just dishonest, but incompetently executed dishonesty because it has been clear since then that we remained a divided demoralised group.

But now because Fagan and Nicks said the word Relationships 50 times I can believe it is definitely all okay now?

Sorry but my default position is cynicism, nothing in the interview contradicted that. It that will remain until results suggest otherwise

Most people in this thread are excited. Feel free to join them in expressing your excitement rather than policing what others think

Hawthorn lost 6 of their first 7 games under Clarkson and went 5-17 in their first year. I doubt there was "excitement".
Would Nicks survive a 5-17 2020

Maybe if we picked up a Buddy, Roughead and Lewis in this draft I guess

They were much better in Clarko’s first year than the year before

If my memory isn’t enough for you, then check the results:
2004 was 4-18 and 70 percent
2005 was 5-17 and 82 percent

Similar improvement to Brisbane in Fagan’s first year
2016 was 3-19 and 61 percent
2017 was 5-17 and 74 percent

Hence excitement because it’s all about trajectory
