Opinion Matthew Nicks: Adelaide's Coach

Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide's rebuild?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

  • Firmly no (he should be sacked)

Because it’s a minor issue and it’s still a subjective call. If we make the Finals this year, will you still be dwelling on Nicks sub call in round 7? I bet you’d never mention it ever again.

A sub decision cannot be proven right or wrong. You’re effectively swapping a 100% tank B to a 25% tank A. There’s nothing guarantee in that equation.
Anyway, think whatever.
Nicks said it was wrong. IT WAS WRONG.

Extending this year would he stupidity, surely there’s no talk around this.

Agreed, this is his 4th year. Unless you are Stewart Dew you need to do something to get a second extension.

Also this move up the ladder is the easy part when expectations are low. Nicksy needs to make finals to get a 6th and 7th year.

he also said “we’re doing a lot of things right”, but I guess you missed that part? Or that part wasn’t as important as a sub decision?
The discussion was purely on the sub bit. Nothing else.
You and Wayne saying it might not be a mistake.
Nicks and the rest of the world saying it was.

It’s as simple as it gets.
This gem from you.
Nicks said if he could re-do a decision, then he’d kept Soligo on. This is not the same as him admitting to making an error.
Nicks says he got that decision wrong and you proceed for the next two weeks to say it’s not necessarily wrong.
“I got a call WRONG when it comes to the sub” Matthew Nicks 3/5/2023

It’s not necessarily a mistake - John Who 3/5/2023

Seriously John, if Nicksy can admit he got it wrong it should be pretty easy for you guys.
And now you’re trying to confuse things by saying what about everything else.
That wasn’t the point John.

Be careful Froggy, he will threaten to put you on ignore

Elwood? I used to live there and saw him at the park a bit.

There's plenty around that area, I live in Brighton and had a kick on Brighton Grammar the other week, Matty Lloyd is there with his boy most Tuesdays having a kick, Lenny Hayes at a local coffee joint.

Even Ralf Schumacher was running along Elwood F1 weekend

Come clean Skam you can’t live in Brighton and obtain your money legally 😜

He'll be available, it's just a matter of when
Give him 6-7 months off and he will looking to get back into it. If Nick's has a poor end to the year we should look at him along with some other coaches who are available.

You want me to really ignore you? Stop being a repetitive whining biatch.

We beat the 4th best team just a week ago, and all you can talk about on this thread is “name 3 Nicks errors”.. just enjoy life a little!

We didn’t beat the 4th best team, we beat the 4th ranked team at that point in the fixture.

There is growing evidence we haven't beaten anyone of note. Carlton are in full end of season tank mode and St Kilda are being St Kilda. Port Adelaide were in horrendous form at the time. Fremantle and Hawthorn are mediocre. Which is disappointing. Another reason for Nicks to not be given an extension until he has proved he is on the right track for finals. Again, I am not sure. Is he just relying on natural progression and trading to demonstrate improvement? because we all need to see this game plan and evidence he is learning from his mistakes and the jury is out. In my view he has earned next season which really finishes off the job he started and if we fail to make finals I think we need a new coach.

Yes a few of us got a bit carried away I think. Can't really blame people. It's been a rough few years.

I think Nicks has probably done enough to ward off being sacked before his contract is up. I just hope we don't make the mistake of extending him early again. I would prefer the club doesn't make a decision until the bye round in 2024 at the earliest.

I have no idea why we would bother extending him this early, seems crazy, where is he going?
