Massive week for Nicks and the club.

Our last two seasons derailed after big losses.

2021 - Lost to Giants by 67 points in RD 7 and then got thumped at home the next two weeks by 49 & 30.
2022 - Lost to Giants by 69 points in RD 7 and then got thumped the next two weeks by 48 and 36 point.

Win this and we go in heavy favorites against Gold Coast and West Coast and could potentially hit the bye 8-5 which would place us very well for a finals tilt.

In my opinion if we're heavily in the top 8 by mid next year, he'll get an extension (i'd say 1 year, but it'll likely be 2).

If we're outside the 8 by 3/4 of the year, he's gone.
Part of me worries we got so burned by the ****ups of the Burton/Pyke group that we're willing to stick with this group because they have generally kept things running smoothly and everyone happy and results on field are a secondary consideration.

And this is what led me to my comment

I dont think Nicks is that terrible - I also think Hinkley is ok - its just this idea around '' Is it better to change and start again (whatever that may mean in this context) or keep going with what we know works (even though it may prove fruitless) ''

I just dont know

Saying you get a Redman in off half back and the premiership window opens up.

Average games about 75 vs Brisbane 125 or something.

Thought Nicks held his nerve on the Sub really well.

With us controlling the game he waited until Fagan pulled Gunston for Madden which was far too late by Fagan.

This allowed him to get Worrell off early for management reasons and allow us to go smaller defensively with Parnell for the last bit of the game.

We need to add another Dawson quality mid before we can get too excited. I don't think a good half back gets us close to a flag without a high quality midfield

Yep. Unless Redman is capable of turning into that midfielder then he's very much in the "nice to have" category. If we can get him as a free agent while keeping our 1st for a quality midfielder then great, do it. But if Essendon match I'd rather walk away than put up our first rounder in a trade for Redman.

That was odd not referencing a mid, that’s why the talk or Lukosius seems odd. Surely if we are using a lot of draft capital it’s on a quality mid. We had Dawson, Laird, Keays and Sloane for the majority of the centre bounces.

Berry and Schoenberg are going backwards.
Soligo and the untried Taylor/Dowling are our young mid options. I doubt Rachelle ever becomes a full time mid.

If we're talking free agents, I'd rather a KPF. I'm starting to get terrified of a post Tex world.

Pedlar should be primarily a midfielder by next year, surely?

Pedlar too, hopefully

That said, yeah a mid needs to be on the agenda. Hard to find young gun mids that can be had, though, unless you draft one and wait until their third or fourth year for them to maybe make a real impact

Luko’s a weird one in that he’s a need post-Tex, but is he worth what he’d cost in-contract? Especially given he’s really only had a few standout performances to date?

I don't think so. GC would probably be wanting multiple first rounders for him, and we'd have no leverage at all given his contract status. I'd rather spend that draft capital on our midfield and see if there are other forward options that can be had either as free agents, cheaper trades or in the draft.

Credit to Nicks this year, he has got the team going well.
It's been good to see the resting of senior players this year, a big tick
And the rotations of midfielders throughout the year is giving young guys a go and then a rest with the seniors swapping.
The best thing to happen this year is our kicking, it has improved out of sight.
It's so much easier for a gameplan to work when your team can hit their targets

King just follows the breeze. This time last year he's saying

My mate and I were talking about this last night, we have built a really good foundation of young players. I think we have built one of if not the best young forward line in the league, TT, Fog, Rankine, Rachele, Pedler and if Gollant can continue to develop he could turn into a handy 3rd tall.

What we're missing a blue chip midfielder and an intercepting defender someone in the Redman/Himmelberg ilk

If we can fill that void through free agency/trading we could potentially be looking at a premiership tilt in the next 2-3 years.

Biggest take was the comment (and I am paraphrasing) about the player that can have a 10 minute burst that wins you a prelim.

IMO - we now have a host of those types of players - FOG, Rankine, Rachele, TT, Pedlar could all turn a game.
