McLeod to have surgery on his bursitis on Monday as its too painful in between local anaesthetic injections. Will be out for 3-4 and miss the West Coast game. What a bummer.

Hope Goodwin doesn't get nailed for tripping otherwise its half our midfield gone.

Yes McLeod should have had the surgery during the week off to get it right. Unfortunately McLeod was is some career best form and will be hard to regain it when he comes back for the finals campaign.

:(

Should've had surgery when we had the week off; don't want key players facing a month on the sidelines heading into September. :(

But with Hart, Torney , Van Berlo and Bock all making their way back into the team, and Perrie and Welshy hopefully not far away (although of course they are forwards), and Trent to come back next week, maybe the timing is not that bad?

A few weeks off will probably do Macca the world of good and mean he is cherry ripe for finals footy.

He might struggle to get his spot back ;)

Surgery for McLeod

Adelaide champion Andrew McLeod will have surgery on his left foot on Monday and will miss the next three or four matches.

He will have a bursa (a sac of fluid) removed from the foot, which has troubled him for several weeks but hardly seems to have dimmed his brilliance for he shone again in the Crows' 72-point win against the Kangaroos at AAMI Stadium on Friday night.

Adelaide coach Neil Craig said after the match that McLeod's surgery was 'not the ideal scenario'.

"We decided to try to get through the season with another method, which worked to a certain extent, but in fairness to Andrew the best situation is to get that foot right, to go in and have an operation on Monday, and he'll miss somewhere between three and four weeks," he said.

"He's done a great job for our footy club, too. He's put up with a lot of pain, not so much when he trains or plays, but when the anaesthetic wears off it's been a really painful injury. To our supporters, members and sponsors out there, the sacrifice that Andrew has made in that area has been fantastic.

"Part of our decision-making was that we did have a lot of injuries. We knew that Ben Hart would be coming back about this time if we had to do something. Nathan van Berlo's not that far away, Jason Torney's played some football now.

"We need to do it now because of the timing. Three to four weeks - and hopefully everything goes well - gives him an opportunity to be available for the finals."

All this will show is that this is a team that doesn't rely on any one player.

Whilst not the best timing (but I see he should be back for the Showdown) we are getting a lot of our players back, and is probably why it wasn't done at the mid-season break.

Just another challenge for the club which I believe it is more than capable of facing and meeting!

So who will be the likely player to replace Mcleod? If Perrie comes in, does that give Riciutto the opportunity to go back in to the midfield? Or will that leave the door open for someone like Thompson?

This shouldn't have happened. He should have had the surgery in the week off to minimise the likelyhood of missing games towards the end of the season if it flared up again and surprise suprise it has. Pretty bloody stupid actually to not take that opportunity. Not impressed.

Craig made that point. Macca has soldiered on until Hart Torney and Van Berlo will be around to bolster the back lines in his absence.

Could have been worse, imagine if it was round 22.
This is elective surgery being done only due to the fact that he is in pain during the week. If finals were looming, he would just soldier on with local anaesthetic for games and lump it mid-week.

Bunji didn't want to do it for a couple of reasons

1) He wanted to play in Roo's 300th
2) We were savaged by injuries so he wanted to wait until we get some players back so there is some depth and quality to replace him.

When its all said and done, McLeod took one for the team and I don't think anyone can ever question his commitment ever again. He played on pretty much in agony.

IMO opinion, yes it should have been done during the break, but as someone else has said, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Changes for this week:

Out: McLeod

In: Perrie (if he's ready)

bock will drop back and the backline will be something like this:

Rutten, Bassett, Stiffy, Stevens, Bock, Mattner.

3 talls and 3 smalls (ish) they would line up against, Lynch (in career best form), possibly Hunter, although i think he was injured early in their game today and a few of their midfielders who come in to the forward line for a rest.

am i close? or will Perrie not be ready? dont get too much info over here and have been offline moving house. so thats just a thought of mine.
