Come on people, you can hate on Sumich as much as you want, but you can’t deny 90% of what he said is spot on because it’s pretty much what a majority of posters have been saying on here for years.

We are soft as **** at the footy
We are often lackadaisical and lazy in putting on pressure.
We turn up and go hard for half a quarter and then decide not to bother.
We keep playing guys who with credits in the bank even when they’re out of form
We drop young guys after their best game for the club because a credits guy who’s been out for weeks passes a fitness test but has had no game time at a lower level.
Our ruckman is the best ruckman in the game but only plays part time and our back ups have had barely any experience at the top level.
Our game plan is kick and hope, especially into our forward line, and our forward line pressure is pretty terrible when it does hit the ground coz we have the fastest runner in the west (Petrucelle) who seemingly can’t tackle and a mercurial forward who also seems to decide when he wants to put pressure on (Ryan).
We draft players based on their play in one position and then play them somewhere else.
We draft big strong inside ball winners coz we need that, then strip them down and turn them into skinny runners who get pushed off the ball etc etc.

We all know there’s many more but I can’t be ****ed writing them all down. We are in for some pain until the young guys develop enough experience and confidence to play at their best. Let’s hope it’s in their correct position.

Those average age and games stats are pretty damning. Hard to fathom how you get thrashed in contested possessions when, on average, each of your players was two years older and 30 games more experienced than his opponent.

They are damming, but all the same we lost the second half -10 in contested possessions and yet kicked 8 goals to 5 and almost pinched the game. CP is an important stat but not in isolation.

Nah man.

You need 90+ tackles and to win the CP stat by at leas 20+. Doesn't matter if you lose the game by 80+ points, it's the 'effort' that counts...

In a twisted way we were also +17 CP compared against our first half effort. It rings true to some extent but doesn't appear to be the key metric to how we go about it. Simmo likes distance gained from clearance which isn't a stat we get. Without NN I'm guessing that's at record lows.

Our quality of clearance amounts to a series of sideways handballs until we fumble and turn it over, or get it out of bounds and then get pantsed at the throw in 😂

It’s only my opinion, but 2022 should be set aside in any discussion around Simpson. There was so much going on that wins/losses are borderline irrelevant. If anything, Simpson getting the playing group through that year without any signs of a rift is an achievement in itself

He needs to be judged on this year and how he navigates a transition from old to new

The North game wasn’t a great start predominantly due to our inability to be remotely competitive in contested ball/clearance work

That said, adjustments were made and we were able to get ourselves back in the game and have a legitimate shot at winning it

Plenty of people were tipping us to be bottom 4 again, then act surprised/outraged when we play like one

In terms of round 1, ours wasn’t the worst performance by a team on the weekend either
We ended up being the best of the losers, which included the reigning premier and Brisbane.

Fumbling was highlighted as a big issue by Will Schofield and Simmo this week. It definitely leads to losing the contested stat when you can handle the ball properly.

Haven’t read the article because I don’t want to fry my brain and I have nothing against Collingwood

But this is the type of hyperbolic crap that shits me. AFL media swings too wildly- teams are either falling apart in crisis mode or are revolutionising the game on their way to a flag. And it can change from one to the other after one or two good (or bad) games

There’s no balance and no memory beyond a week or two

Yeah look no further than the Fyfe commentary. Coleman medallist certainty based on a couple of preseason games to drop the spud or roll him through the midfield, the experiment is over after one quiet AFL game.

Some of the Collingwood talk this week has been totally over the top. Melbourne late 2018 on steroids. Robinson of course is a disgrace to the profession of sports journalism.

I think David needs a lie down. Acres and Mundy aren't at Freo and Logue isn't in there backline. The replacements like O'Meara and Jackson have played 1 game. Any forward will look like shit if the ball is coming in slow or inaccurately. When 2 backs are leading your possession count you got bigger problems than the one forward.

Nah, Fyfe is not a CHF. He can't kick. Even if he could mark it, his accuracy is unacceptable for that position.

Play him in the middle or put him out to pasture.

The alternative of Treacy or skinny Amiss and Sturt don't really inspire confidence. I hope they persist no matter how much he misses. They are naming him at FF anyway although I suspect he will play forward pocket anyway. Watching them lose is fun so I am all for whatever makes that more likely.
