Four-time Port Adelaide best and fairest winner Kane Cornes said crucial West Coast list management calls to sign various players to lucrative long-term contracts were now costing the club.

....

“West Coast, I hear so many excuses out of that club. The writing was on the wall there four years ago.”

Four years ago? When the club was fifth on the ladder on the back of winning a flag... What ****ing writing was on what wall?

Can't deal with this level of floggy bullshit.

I don’t understand why there’s so much hate for the Sunday arvo slot. It’s a great time slot. Maybe it’s because I grew up on Sundays at Subi. For me, A good variety where half are Sunday days mixed with sat nights and some Thur/Fridays are perfect.

I don’t want to be at Optus every Saturday night. Saturday day sucks as local footy is king. And I don’t want to be rushing from work every Thursday or Friday.
Always sucks being the last team to play, thoughts already turning to the drudgery of a monday.

The bloke literally just says stuff to generate news and clicks, everyone in the industry knows it

What is happening in the media?? Bucks & Eddie seem to be our biggest supporters.

Wouldn't mind them coming in tbh.............
Strange isn't it, guess they've both been there done that.
Imagine the melts if Bucks coached and Edward to over as CEO or Pres 🤣

Bucks is very balanced and considered in his comments. Really like listening to what he has to say. He also quite rightly says they shouldn't all be getting so hung up on the head coach as there's whole teams looking after various aspects of the footy department that escape scrutiny.

Eddie has a rich ally in Trevor and WCE. When we get into BSD mode it usually aligns in a favourable outcome for other rich clubs like the Pies so we tend to stick together.

I honestly would not see an issue with it.

If ed was our pres or CEO maybe the khents and AFL house would take interstate clubs over in WA seriously.

Eddie supports football. He is a passionate advocate for the game and loves the aspect of clubs in general. I believe he would support any club in our position. Never did get the dislike for him.

Anyone got a sub and can post the article?

Not subbed, but through magic.....

"Reuben Ginbey’s former mentor says West Coast are playing their first-round draftee out of position - and risk hindering the development of their most valuable young asset.

Ginbey is one of eight players at West Coast to have played all 10 games this season and has earned praise for his defensive efforts, leading the Eagles for tackles (73).

But the 18-year-old is averaging just 13.5 touches after being largely deployed in a run-with role through the middle of the ground, playing on some of the top midfielders in the competition.

Former AFL assistant coach Michael Broadbridge, who coached Ginbey at Wesley College in the PSA, said he was not a natural midfielder yet and would be better served playing across half-back.

“Reuben has been played in the midfield because people see the prototype physique, however, he doesn’t read the midfield game, at the moment, clearly enough to be an effective midfielder,” Broadbridge said.

“The decision that you need to make as a coach or a club is what’s best for the guy’s development for the long term, not for the short term because you’re talking about a first-round draft pick that you want to be a legacy player, someone who is at the club for 15 years.

“I think his value to West Coast and his value from a long-term perspective will be far greater if he learned to get the ball more, and he learned how to use the ball, how to kick to the advantage of teammates, how to break lines, run and carry overlap, all the things that he does naturally from halfback.

“So that he’s getting 20-plus possession a game and those possessions are gaining metres and breaking opposition defences.

“Reuben will get smashed and has got smashed this year because that’s just what happens. He puts his body on the line and whatever else and I don’t think it’s doing him any good at all from a long-term perspective.”

Broadbridge also called for an end to Ginbey running with the opposition’s top midfielder.

“Just following someone around in the midfield, you know having a role on a (Matt) Rowell or a Patrick Cripps - how much does that teach you?” Broadbridge said.

“If your job is to follow them around, play on them, tackle them when they get the ball in and get 15 tackles a game, how much is that actually teaching you about football?

“That is open to debate. If that is education, then it’s a different form of education to what I would be espousing.”"

I daresay he's only playing the role due to availability.

he could play across HB and watch the ball sail over his head 20 times a game though.

He was only supposed to pinch hit in the midfield for Yeo. Instead, Simmo has taken the opportunity to play him on some of the best mids in the game. I have no doubt Reuben will go back to half back when we have players to run through the middle.
