My understanding is the soft cap is only for the footy department - which is direct spend on the foot program. This includes Coaches, medical, equipment etc. I remember the WA clubs having to fight to make sure travel wasn't included.

I think everything else is outside. Marketing, corporate, recruiting (though I'm not sure about this one), administration. Capital expenditure is capital expenditure.

Recruiting is part of the soft cap

How does it apply to AFLW and reserves programs?

Every club has an AFLW side now, but for those clubs running standalone reserves sides, if it’s included in the cap then they’re at a disadvantage compared with sides like Freo (Peel) and Hawthorn (Box Hill) who can rely on the affiliates to spend that money.

Not subbed, but through magic.....

"Reuben Ginbey’s former mentor says West Coast are playing their first-round draftee out of position - and risk hindering the development of their most valuable young asset.

Ginbey is one of eight players at West Coast to have played all 10 games this season and has earned praise for his defensive efforts, leading the Eagles for tackles (73).

But the 18-year-old is averaging just 13.5 touches after being largely deployed in a run-with role through the middle of the ground, playing on some of the top midfielders in the competition.

Former AFL assistant coach Michael Broadbridge, who coached Ginbey at Wesley College in the PSA, said he was not a natural midfielder yet and would be better served playing across half-back.

“Reuben has been played in the midfield because people see the prototype physique, however, he doesn’t read the midfield game, at the moment, clearly enough to be an effective midfielder,” Broadbridge said.

“The decision that you need to make as a coach or a club is what’s best for the guy’s development for the long term, not for the short term because you’re talking about a first-round draft pick that you want to be a legacy player, someone who is at the club for 15 years.

“I think his value to West Coast and his value from a long-term perspective will be far greater if he learned to get the ball more, and he learned how to use the ball, how to kick to the advantage of teammates, how to break lines, run and carry overlap, all the things that he does naturally from halfback.

“So that he’s getting 20-plus possession a game and those possessions are gaining metres and breaking opposition defences.

“Reuben will get smashed and has got smashed this year because that’s just what happens. He puts his body on the line and whatever else and I don’t think it’s doing him any good at all from a long-term perspective.”

Broadbridge also called for an end to Ginbey running with the opposition’s top midfielder.

“Just following someone around in the midfield, you know having a role on a (Matt) Rowell or a Patrick Cripps - how much does that teach you?” Broadbridge said.

“If your job is to follow them around, play on them, tackle them when they get the ball in and get 15 tackles a game, how much is that actually teaching you about football?

“That is open to debate. If that is education, then it’s a different form of education to what I would be espousing.”"
Firstly, playing people out of position is what we do at west coast..

But also, isn’t this the same guy who had us kicking tennis balls as our skills coach when we were the worst skilled side in the league?

The way things are going I wouldn't be ruling anything out because a 2 year injury run is feeling like a curse.

Explains why Fremantle will never win a flag. C.Y. O'Connor blew up the rock bar at the mouth of Derbarl Yerrigan at Waylyup. So while the Wagyl will eventually forgive us of sharing sacred knowledge, Fremantle remains cursed forever.

Dingo talks some real smack. The artist that designed that didn't seem to think it was a problem. He's also overlooking the fact we won a final in 2019 and finished 5th in 2020 - not exactly terrible form.

Interestingly enough, Simmo mentioned this in today's presser.

Said they've been pigeon-holing guys into certain roles to get them in the team and it's something they're going to look at moving forward.

It's something, at least.

Ah, that takes me back to 'pointing the bone' at Collingwood. Mind you, they deserved it, at least.

For his part, the guernsey designer in 2019, Darryl Bellotti, said he used the feathers for a couple of different reasons - and it wasn't as part of the Waugal itself, seemingly confirming Dingo's assertion that it was a departure from the sacred symbol.

'On the guernsey, feathered wings wrap around the player like a booka, a traditional kangaroo skin cloak,' Bellotti said at the time.

'But also, it draws synergies in with ceremonial artwork kind of stuff.

That's it, I'm sold.

Who do we need to contact to undo this curse?

Another theory is that WC's ancestral home at Subi was the home ground for Subiaco FC who were once a Catholic only club. God is punishing us.

My unfounded suspicion is that we have no players available that can play good footy.

Not the only time it's happened.

Wayne Carey started pointing his bone around and Norf haven't been the same since

Might be Stocksy getting the extended break at the end of the year….https://thewest.com.au/sport/west-coast-eagles/west-coast-eagles-head-of-communications-gary-stocks-revealed-as-the-source-behind-adam-simpson-holiday-rumour-c-10780403

Three years really... The first half of 2021 was a bit of a disaster off-field but we managed to keep it together somehow until it all fell apart after the bye and has been FUBARed since.
