maybe ... would u fancy Trent Sporn aswell ?

If we get into his ear enough (Meeson) we could tell him to hold out untill the PSD - where we would jump over nuns to pick him up.

and why would he be so keen to come to the bottom team?

surely he'd rather go to a better club?

Probably - but money talks, contrary to what people on here think we actually have money to spend on players (Kouta's pay cut etc), if he gets offered say $150,000 - $200,000 from Carlton, why wouldn't he want to play for us ? (that is if other clubs dont offer him the same amount)

$150,000 & being in Victoria > $100,000 & being in Victoria

well all reports are the average wage will 200k from next year, so you'd have to entice with a lot more than that.

Geelong, where he's really from, better future and similar money.

hard ask for you to match up on.

Ottens, Blake, King & Meesen?

Where would he fit in and get a game down at Geelong in addition to Hawkins being signed, sealed and delivered?

He'd stand a better chance of getting a game down at Carlton, Collingwood or even Footscray as a ruckman/forward.

I don't think the Cats future is that crash hot and they're salary cap situation would be pretty tight even with the retirement of Riccardi.

Carlton are not flush, the fact that they have YET AGAIN asked a champion of the AFL to take a pay cut shows that. And how many rookies do you have?

And as for the ruck stocks of Geelong. Ottens isnt a full time ruckman anymore and king is seemingly always injured. Blake and Meeson could be a very strong ruck duo for the next decade.

Of course thats if we have to trade him. I'd rather not.

We have a full rookie list. As for Kouta we asked him to take a pay cut because he's not worth what we're currently paying him.

LOL The Meesen saga is starting to turn into Fergus Watts all over again.
Crows should play hardball like port did with stevens and don't trade him to the club of his choice (if he wants to leave) unless they get a decent offer for him.
They should make an hard stand and make sure that they aren't going to be screwed over by other clubs come trade time. They should come to the trade table with a position of strength, not defence and call the other club's bluff who are courting him.

Unlikely, he could go in the PSD granted, but history shows that only one pr1ck has done that because he didnt get his way and that was Stevens. Unfortunately Port were dealing with Collingwood who wouldnt offer anything near fair compensation hoping that Port would just roll over.

When we sign him up, this rumour and innuendo will all be over. If we have to trade him, we'll get fair value. None of this second round pick crap.

I think Geelongs salary cap situation will give them a bit of room actually;

1) Ricardi as stated (although sure he was classed as veteran so only get 50% made available on cap).

2) Kingsley is out of contract and almost certainly will find another club. He is on big money.

3) Increase in salary cap comes in next year

4) James Kelly trade rumours

5) The only 2 regular players resigning are Mackie and Egan so no massive expenditures.

Meeson probably won't come to Geelong as Ottens, King, & Blake mean no guarantee of game time as someone else has stated. Meeson would be wasted at Geelong were he could potentially sit 4th in line for 2-3 years when he is ready now.

Geelong needs only needs to pick up a rookie list ruckmen and see how he goes. If West and this rookie show no promise before the end of '08 then use a first rounder or trade for a ruckmen then. Carlton, Collingwood would be best, Richmond could also be in the hunt. St Kilda if they got rid of Ackland or Sydney maybe in the hunt as well.

How about meeson and adelaides 1st rounder (15-16) for collingwoods first rounder (10-11)?

A fairer trade might be:
Meesen & Adelaide's first rounder to Collingwood
Collingwood's first AND second round selectiond to Adelaide.

Maybe the 2nd rounder is too much.. I would probably be prepared to accept Collingwood's 1st & 3rd round selections.

Too bad , we certainly won't trade our first round selection.

Ottens is virtually a permanent forward now - he is really only played in the ruck as a last resort - and King's maximum workload seems to be about 10 games a year at the moment. Actually, now that Bomber has apparently laid down the law to him (he's got to run hard every game, and if he breaks down he breaks down, enough of this nursing him through games crap) then it wouldn't surprise me if 2007 is his last year. So I think Meesen would certainly get some games next year and may well be a permanent in the 22 after that if he was at Geelong.

Picking up another raw type or waiting for West will take too long. Remember that many ruckmen take 5 or more years to really get up to the level - we've already had Blake for three and while the signs are good most agree he still has some developing to do before he is true AFL standard.

Just kidding.

What that must start this week?

Yes, I hope for your guys sakes you don't lose another young player to Victoria, but after the Fergus Watts situation at St.Kilda, do you think Vic clubs would actually offer an 1st rnd picks for an player who is relatively untried at AFL level.
Especially when this year's draft is so deep.
The crows deserve some luck with the draft though as they have been screwed big time in the last couple of years (IE Ferguss wanting to go home to be with mummy and daddy) and then missing out on Bryce Gibes.

If Malthouse saw the need for a ruckman he'd already have one. As it is he hasn't and its a main reason we won't win a premiership while he is coach.

As long as Malthouse is coach Collingwood won't chase a ruckman.

Are you talking about Kouta?

He's 33 and long past his best and clubs are required to spend 92.5% of the cap.

The cap is going up next year and IIRC the AFL is fully committed to funding the increases.

Who was the other champion who took a pay cut?

Five.

Rumour is he wants out and homesickness would be a factor in him not playing well. I haven't seen him play, but someone who has said it's written all over him with the way he's playing.
