Opinion Melbourne or Bulldogs for the flag?

Port also still has a lot to prove, their only good win was against you guys the others are North (18th) St kilda (16th) Carlton (13th) and Essendon (12th).

But because of the fixture they really shouldn’t finish outside the top 2, so should be a good show for the GF.

Honestly Port only have 3 difficult games away from home all year, they have been given a very fortunate fixture. Also their only difficult double up is the Bulldogs. This coming match in Brisbane is one of the few challenges they have been given, and even then Brisbane is depleted.

They failed the first test so lets see how they go in Brisbane, if they bomb this there might be some questions about their ability to beat quality opposition away from Adelaide. There next chance to prove themselves after this weekend won’t come until the final round, so this is an important match for Port in my opinion.
They should have been given st.kildas fixture. For a team that finished on top at the end of the home and away season they have somehow got a gift.

Yeah and just like I predicted, they failed. They only have one more chance to prove they can beat a decent team away from Adelaide and that isn’t until the final round. Can’t win a premiership if you can’t beat a good team at the mcg.

Not that Geelong is one to talk after the crap we dished out tonight, you guys will destroy us next week.

I’d say Melbourne are slightly ahead for now, will depend partly on depth, momentum, and finals form.....but mostly on knowing they can win it.

Our games are always hard fought, next week will no doubt be the same. As for port I do rate them but yes not the same team away from Adelaide, that’s now 2 maulings they’ve received outside of their home.

Plenty of teams a realistic chance to win the flag this early in the season, IMO in order of favouritism > Richmond, Port Adelaide, Geelong, Brisbane, Bulldogs, Melbourne, West Coast, GWS, Sydney, St.Kilda, Essendon, Fremantle, Carlton, Gold Coast, Hawthorn, Collingwood, Adelaide, North Melbourne.
You severely overrate Geelong to have them as the third best team in it.

Their window is closed. They're old, slow and unimaginative.

They didn't have one teenager in their team against Sydney, who had two. Melbourne have three playing today.

Geelong were Dad's Army when we beat them in a final in 2018. They walked off with loser's limp then and they're older now.

Clearly , due to wins on the board , Bulldogs & Melb. are well placed to make top 4

I'd think 2 of Port , Brisbane , Geelong & Richmond will go top 4 again , if 3 do then one of Dees or Dogs will miss

my side has played the Dees and Dogs in consecutive weeks , so had a good look at them

Dees defense and structures around the ball very good , Gawns service to his midfield very good
Dogs , their chains of handballs , very good
I can see both styles standing up well in Sept.
I don't think the Dogs could make the GF let alone win the flag with both Josh Bruce and Schache in the side and they do desperately need English back

So far sides have bombed long into the Dees defense and Lever and May have picked them off , with ease
I can see the good opposition sides countering that and lowering theirs eyes when going forward,
easier than opposition sides will shutdown the running Bulldogs

I'll give a nod to the Bulldogs to do the better of the two but with no confidence

Sept. is a long way off and maintaining and building on current form and keeping a lid on excitement a real challenge for both
a challenge everyone loves to have mind you

my GF prediction one of Dees/Dogs and one of Port/Bris/Cats/Tigers

Still backing in the Dogs. Richmond had to dig deep and unleash their flag-winning style in that second half, Dogs should learn from that.
And they didn't try that against Melbourne?

They’ll save it for the prelim like West Coast did
meh, we are a different team now

Richmond are a great team and extremely hard to beat. It's no shame that your side couldn't beat them!

I've written them off. If your back six can't deal with long, high, predictable entries than you'll never get near a flag. The dogs might bat deep in midfield but their key position players are average at best

You could be right, as you can see I'm putting are fair bit of emphasis on last years form, the Dees and Dogs have been great early but I'm yet to be convinced that either are flag favourites, the Tigers still clear favourites IMO FWIW.

Then Bulldogs have been there and done it before and some of those players are still there. It will be nice to see Melbourne having some success. But it is still early in the season.

Keath is getting destroyed. Cordy was such a liability that I saw Keath having to take on two players at once.

Young isn’t much better, he’s athletic but he hates body contact like Schache and goes missing. He isn’t strong upper body either.

Lol we still can’t be trusted will be lucky to make the 8 playing the way we are, this is why we are still and will continue to be a laughing stock of the AFL
