Post Selwood I'd blow the midfield up. Clark, Narkle, Constable, Parfitt all traded or moved on and go for top quality.

How? We have Holmes but we need more than just him. Quickly. Clark more a half back in the Tuohy mould or outside wingman as Langdon is at Melbourne I think.

I suppose I was getting at is there anyone at Melb unbalancing their list, assuming Cameron does that to Cats? Is Cameron the top paid player at Geelong? I think I read something about how Joel dropped dollars to fit him in.

Yeah he did but usually the kpfs ate the highest or second highest after the captain anyway.

Wouldn't worry about the cap. The retirements after 2022 mean we'll probably have trouble hitting the cap floor soon

And would still be ok with that. Jezza is a gun and the difference

Post Selwood I think it blows itself up. Parfitt I think is exactly the kind of mid we need if we get a high draft pick midfielder or two coming through. There to create space for a talented kick who can't consistently find his own yet.

I think also Guthrie and Duncan are the right kind of mids to retain. Can play them off half back to give the kids rotations at times where those rotations suit the kid in question. Menegola maybe a bit too.

I think the key as well is that create cohesion you need to play the same players together for an extended period. So as you say, a cohort of 4-5 mids taken this year with a full season together in the 2s along with Stephens and Stevens gives us a starting point 2023.

I notice watching replays of last weeks game against GWS just how many times Cats players sidestepped and sold candy, particularly in D50. Not just Bews either. Selwood, Tuohy, Duncan. Happened so much I feel it must be an instruction. A simple action like that gains you at least 20 extra meters and an element of surprise for defensive structures oppositions set up ahead of the ball coming out of our D50.

I think if Cooper Stephens can get his body right, he’s a pretty prototypical modern big-bodied mid that the club has some high hopes for. But he’s more likely to state a case for 2023 and maybe a game or two next season.

They’re ditching the chip! Wow ! Sounds good!

You can pick up half decent mids with seconds and we have a few. We also have a year to put them in the 2s first. It's not great but it's not nothing

Yeah I meant playing Stephens and Stevens in the 2sv with the group of kids. I'd be disappointed if he didn't get a few games on the seniors next year though

You’d hope you have the replacements ready for a drastic move like that, you can’t play kids in the midfield from the moment they draft you need time to get them ready for that role…unless they are all another Joel

The first 3 are already gone, Parfitt is overrated but we will be desperate for midfielders with Selwood slowing down, and the rest are close to retirement. I don't see any

The first 3 are already gone and Parfitt is so overrated. However, with Selwood close to retirement and the rest of the ageing midfielders slowing down, where do you think our next midfielders will come from? Maybe Cooper Stephens but he needs to get over his ankle surgery.

Holmes…..

Watching Kayo Fox footy last night, Whately and co, one would think there was only one team in this match, Melbourne. Was all about the Deeeees, then again, i guess they are a novelty in big Finals. Which is precisely why i think Geelong will win, as they are far more Finals experienced, battle hardened, and last yrs GF loss is huge motivation, plus revenge for 2 weeks ago, no more Cat naps. Cats by 16 points, Cameron to kick 5 goals. As Pharoah Rameses said to Moses, " So it is written, so it shall be done" !

Dees will smash us in the ruck and will smash us in the middle...:(

I think you have your years wrong. That isntva starting point for 2023. Its a starting point for 2026.
