Yeah, sure, if we had a great midfield we would be top 8. The thing is, we've tried and failed to build a midfield for about 7 years now so it's really not so easy. Credit to teams like Richmond for building balanced squads.

It's all about nailing draft picks , we failed on our midfield picks .. Look army Richmonds midfield there mostly top 10 picks ...
Look at our midfield - rodan , Matt jones , mckenzie , bail etc are all
And our high picks outside of jones , Sylvia isn't a good midfielder , trengroves slow this season , grimes clearance work and disposal are average , and Scully gysberts and Morton are gone

Basically my point is we need to strike in this trade period , we need to get a midfield

Talking with supporters on your board and seeing posts around BF the supporters don't share the same feelings. I'm trying to work out if it is just a big footy/supporters thing from what 'journo's' tell us or whether there is substance to Craig having major flaws.

I don't think there's much doubt that Craig brought a culture of respect to the club, which is one of the reasons why he lasted so long, and various players were quoted on the positive effect he had. One thing he did well was to get the players over the mental hurdle they had whenever we play the Power, the fear of losing it which led to us losing more showdowns than we won. In his tenure he evened the ledger by getting the Crows playing "rational" football rather than being overcome by emotion and fear. He certainly had his faults: stubbornness/refusal to make game day moves, and a game plan which probably didn't work in finals as much as the contested style we've developed under Sando (well last year at least). So yes he's not perfect but I think he'd be good for the culture of the club at least for the next few years.

Maybe it's like companies these days, they bring in CEOs with different skill sets for different periods in the companies growth. I think you could do worse than using Craig's skills at this point in your climb back up the ladder.

Against that of course is the "one chance to get this appointment right" argument - especially since the afl is underwriting it - which may mean you'll go for no one other than a premiership winning coach. Which is why I think Choco could be the best bet: has won a premiership and, whilst different to Craig, is also known for his ability to build close relationships with players, teach young players and get the best out of them. It's well known he needs a strong footy ops manager to balance his desire to run things his way, but I'd go for him over Roos because he seems to have a burning desire to coach again that Roos doesn't, a sense of unfinished business. Same with Eade, although he didn't win a premiership he can clearly coach and seems to still have the passion. From comments from Sydney and Dogs players after he left he's not the most caring/sharing type and maybe your club at this stage needs someone more like Craig.

Fwiw, in order my pick would be
Choco
Roos
Craig
Eade

I guess the good news is that while you've had plenty of dark clouds lately, the silver lining is that you're going to get one of these guys, and any of them will be good. Of equal importance of course will be the assistants he has around him, if you could get people like Richmond did of the calibre of Lade and Leppitsch you'll be going well. Not telling you anything you don't know, and of course it will depend on how many coaches you can afford.

Why? I think Craig could be a great candidate, but if his overly defensive mind set starts to take over in the long run, it may not be the most suitable for our list as it stands
Maybe he went defensive at Adelaide because of the stocks they had, whereas we have more of an attacking team. Plus maybe in his second gig he can carry on the good work from his first gig as coach, whilst making changes to the errors he made first time round.

They say coaches do their best work in their second gig which is why, contrary to my vote, I've cooled significantly on Rocket.

Interesting, but hard to judge really as there have been some good looking coaches who have flopped second time round (Pagan and Wallace come to mind). I think Craig is the man personally, the players want to play for him which is the key ingredient to any successful team. I am not dismissing the notion of Roos though and I still think Ratten has a lot to offer

If you remember the forward line he had to work with

Ian Perrie, Scott welsh and nick smith?
Brett burton .. And that's all I can think of

This is what I'm hoping for if he gets the gig, if he has developed his coaching skills and is flexible enough to adapt a game plan to our list, then he could very well be a good choice.

He seems to have us playing with more flair already

I'm not sure that theory goes on to say they then struggle at their third job. Mick Malthouse a case in point. I'll be more than happy with Eade.

As a thought, why can't we play all four?

Hawthorn
Lance Franklin 196cm/100kg
Jarryd Roughead 193cm/100kg
David Hale 201cm/102kg
Jack Gunston 193cm/81kg

Admittedly they have a great small in Breust, but still, just a thought.

They got Cyril too but I agree 100%. West Coast go pretty tall too with Kennedy, Darling, Naitanui/Cox and LeCras (though I'm not sure on how tall is the frenchman).

From what I've been hearing through the grape vine, and as Watson said in that clip...Roos is pretty much a lock in. I hope it's not primarily about the money (I repeat 'primarily', as obviously money is a factor in any profession), and that he still has a real hunger for the game. I just don't want a Malcolm Blight/St. Kilda scenario. However, I still think Roos has that hunger. I also hope they keep Craig on as an assistant coach in some capacity. He's been working wonders since he got the gig, and so many of the players love him.

But yes, you heard it here (and from plenty of other sources too)...the speculation on who Melbourne are getting will be over soon enough, and the answer will be:

Paul Roos.

Lock it in.

The biggest coaching coup for this club...possibly ever.

I gotta say there's definently something In the air when they slash the odds of Roos coaching , bookies don't slash odds for no reason , they no something .
I'm still cautios but I wonder if Andy d has personally asked roosy to do it

It's now more than in the air. It's on the ground.
