I don't think we are going to get Roos as a coach. I do however think that he would be a perfect member of our next coach selection panel.

Last year Port brought in David Parkin and Tom Harley to assist in finding a coach.

To select our last coach our panel was: Stynes, McLardy, Schwab, one other board member and Lyon.

How about we tap Paul Roos and Lingy on the shoulder and ask them to help Peter Jackson find the right man.

In who's world is Ross Lyon available? Being paid heaps, living outside the football bubble and coaching a top 4 team.

***EDIT - Just learned that daniher stayed on until 2007, didn't realise that. For some reason, I thought he got sacked in like 2001 or 2002. So I don't know how to lift your curse.

So when was it then? I mean, what do most Dee's fans remember as a major downturn in the club's recent fortunes?
Sacking Norm Smith

GWS midfield structure looks much better last season as compared to this year when Choco was pretty much the senior coach. Not to mention, Richmond has improved out of sight.

Yep, I am all for Williams if Roos turns it down. Has worked closely with Dustin Martin and got him playing super football. Maybe he can turn Trengove into what is he supposed to be, along with making sure kids like Toumpas keep on developing.

I like this idea, we need people who know what they are looking for in a leader. Although I would love Roos as head coach and Lingy as Assistant!

i dont think melbourne should go for anyone like paul roos, you would be mad to want him, been out of the game for far too long, you want to go forwards not backwards, why would your club want to pick up a recycled senior coach who recieved the arse at another club? if you cant poach a current AFL top coach, then go for the best quality assistant going around in the AFL, regardless of how young or inexperienced

Roos retired.

And the MFC has said that they are really only interested in experienced senior coaches.

Personally I never really understood the 'coach once' mentality, yes coaches get the sack but sometimes it's because their use-by date has passed at a particular club with a particular list. The experience of having coached a senior team is invaluable - even if it wasn't to the 'ultimate' success (i.e. someone like Eade).

Word is we're sounding out guys like Ling and Hayes in some assistant roles as well (from the Age IIRC) - will be interesting to see our structure next year.

Hayes would make me so happy.

Only if Choco and Eade both say no

Even then he would only join a list of considerations for me, would be there among ratten, knights, etc. Honestly though if it came to that it seems it would be a bit of a failure from our CEO who has promised a "very good coach"

if there is a gun coach out there as an assistant, the next leigh matthews ross lyon mark thompson malthouse ect waiting in the wings somewhere, i think you would be silly to just overlook them and only go for someone who has had experience before

yes neeld was a great assistant, but he was a terrible senior coach, you had the wrong people in place picking for the job, if you get the right people on a selection pannel this time around, i think you could pick up an incredibly good young gun coach having earliest crack at them all, and set the club up for a decade

i just really dont see a long term future going for a bloke like ratten or eade, when there is probably options out there who will do a much better job if interviewed and followed up and properly investigated into

While Roos would be a great coach, if he doesn't have the desire, Melbourne shouldn't chase him. St Kilda learned that the hard way with Blight.

Williams is probably the best candidate but the Collingwood-hating part of me hopes you take Eade from them.

Don't you have a Richmond hating part too?

I camped out overnight for the drawn Grand Final, that disappointment was compounded by sleep deprivation caused by a pack of Collingwood ferals talking about people they'd bashed until about 3am. Left a bit of an impression...

if i must say one thing, Neale Daniher was never sacked he stood down!
alright he is a good coach still in the system unlike roo's but it seems like roo's he doesn't really want to senior coach and is very settled in Perth with his family. the way i see i don't think that even melbourne would have him back just out of embarrassment of having to scope out a former coach to dig melbourne out of it's troubles.

although personally i would love to see him return, but it just will not happen, he doesn't want it neither does melbourne.

the thing that makes me think twice about roos is his lack of desire.

Pay a bloke 400k with passion and desire with player relations and i think you will get better result out of a somewhat non-interested coach getting a sweet a$$ paycheck who can quite easily fall back on ' i told you so' when it all goes pear shaped.

Im 2 more reports of Roos knockbacks away from getting off the bandwagon.

Eade or Chocco, Eade for me, seems the safer option with the state of our club at the moment.

According to Dermie a coach performs better at his 2nd club as senior coach....

That means Chocco would give us at LEAST 2 minor premierships and a premiership.

Right?

I agree with this, and have thought about the Blight comparison prior to this. We do not want a coach who isn't 100% driven and passionate...no matter who it is. In saying this, I don't know if we'll even get Roos. Furthermore, if we did, I can't see someone with the integrity of a Roos, doing a Blight. Surely not? Just have to wait and see what happens I guess.

Eade seems very "with it" still in regards to football. He is good on that Fox Footy show where they talk tactics n shit. Roos will see us get 40K members next year though.

Also how will Collingwood feel when we take another one of their staff lol.
