It's actually quite pathetic when you compare it to the bulldogs who only 5 years ago were at the crossroads for the umpteenth time until the Federal funding kicked in?

Hopefully Rick will jump on this and make sure the campaign starts early and the forms are out early.

I know myself for one, I haven't rushed to get mine early the last few yeaers because they never sent the packges out until very late, so hopefully they can improve that area too.

Must admit I,ve been slack and usally sign my family and I around Feb, wont be doing that this year, as soon it arrives in the mail I,ll sign up straight away.

By Christmas, we had 4,200 members. The dogs had 16,000. An early start is important

After the season they had this year, the Dogs won't get past 10,000 at Christmas. It'll be more difficult for them to sell seats on the 2008 Doggie bandwagon than for 2007.

Their marketing department was brilliant in the way they exploited the Dogs "feel good" factor after their 2006 season. They made sure the media was flooded with stories about their club (it was effectively free advertising) and they ran membership ads going into Christmas. It built a lot of momentum for them.

We have to do the same.

They got the majority of these through their automatic deduction scheme. The North members appear to be reluctant to take this up presumably due to the relocation fear. I had one lady this year when renewing at the game in April asked if she'd get a refund if we relocated later in 2007. I assured her we were right for 2007 but this showed me the level of uncertainty out there. JB has now provided the numbers to remain in Melbourne. Thursday 20 Sept 2007 is a great day (night) for us diehards.

I think the efforts by the club to market membership will be a huge indication of what they are planning.
There was no effective marketing of membership last year - lets see what happens this year. The new membership manager is getting big wraps so I am hopeful of big things happening.

I find it hard to believe that so many Bulldog fans would sign up for an ongoing automatic deduction scheme. Their hardcore fans might take up the option, but I'd be surprised that so many of their "newer" members would make such an on-going commitment.

Even if the 16,000 Christmas figure is made up of hardcore Bulldog fans, they're going to find it tough to push towards 25,000 after their team's performances in 2007. Unless they can start next season with the pre-season Cup and/or start with 3 or 4 wins at the start of the season, they won't get 25,000 signed up members.

The more signed up before Christmas the easier it is to get new supporters to sign on after the new year because the membership dept. resources are freed up a bit
