Coach Men's Senior Coach: Brad Scott

I think “active listening” is probably the right phrase. I don’t think he was ignoring the coaches before, but hearing without really listening and internalising the message is easy enough to do when you’re getting a lot of feedback all the time.

Creates a different sort of culture and hierarchy.

Will take three years minimum to turn this ship around.
Agreed. Problem is it’s a two decade rinse and repeat. It just reinforces my absolute amazement that dodoro is still there. He would put mcguire to shame at all the arses he has kissed over the years to keep his job. Almost have to admire the prick.

Nothing about Scott specifically in the whole episode. Only the clip above, whinging about Essendon being realistic about fielding the youngest team in the comp, while all he wants is phony pre-season hype.

As if hyping up the media and the public externally somehow improves the 'mindset' of the players internally... with the implication that saying 'anything can happen' in an interview in pre-season would result in winning a practice match in Moorabbin. 🤔

He's a dill.

I agree with him there. I dont want to hear excuses either. It was a practice game vs Saints so i will give coach and players the benefit of the doubt but i want to see us looking sharp in the first month of the season. If we don't hit the ground running ill be as sour as Robbo.

Just having a look at the fixture i see no reason why we shouldn't be aiming to realistically win our 1st 4 games. Nothing about Hawthorn (MCG), Suns (Marvel), Saints (MCG) or GWS (Marvel) should feel like a daunting task. Melbourne (AO) in round 5, yes a big challenge, but you'd hopefully have some momentum by then, especially with a soft opening month

I wonder if Jordan Lewis will make his way onto the AFL360 panel again this year...

Four-time premiership Hawk Jordan Lewis believes Brad Scott can lead Essendon out of a tumultuous 2022 campaign and guide the club into a shock AFL finals appearance this year.

There’s been dramatic change at Essendon over the past six months, with a new president, coach, chief executive (twice) and captain all appointed.

The Bombers, too, will enter the 2023 season with the third-youngest and fourth-least experienced list in the competition after they finished 15th on the ladder last year with a 7-15 record.

Despite the significant change to the big Victorian club – which is still seeking its first finals win since 2004 – Lewis is optimistic about Essendon this year.

Fox Footy expert Lewis predicted Essendon and Carlton to jump into the top eight this season, with 2022 finalists Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs to miss out.

“I just think the Bombers are one of those sides where they‘ve got an abundance of talent – I know its young talent – but once they get parts of their game right, I think it can really help them progress up the ladder,” Lewis told foxfooty.com.au at Fox Footy’s 2023 season launch.

“I see them as a chance to make finals this year.”

Lewis added that Scott’s stint as AFL football operations boss, as well as his lengthy stint as North Melbourne coach, would help the Bombers enormously.

“He‘s had a unique position at the AFL to understand trends of the game and where the game is heading and what other coaches are thinking,” he said.

“To bring that knowledge but also watch Essendon closely, I think he‘ll bring a more defensive structure behind the ball. At times last year, Essendon were just all at sea. So to bring that and then to allow them to play an offensive brand of footy, I think it’d be a good mix with the team that he’s got.”

He did mention all the new coaches, including having stalwarts in clarkson and lyon back.
No mention of Scott
Salty AF. Switching off from 360 for the year.

No he doesn't mention Scott explicitly but it is implied. Scott himself has commented on how young we are.

Yeah idk I was expecting it to be more of a personal attack. As Robbo himself said, "we're not dumb, we can see they're young". Don't think stating the bleeding obvious is a hanging offence. Everyone has said it... and will continue to say it.

After the way last year ended you don't go from 'crappy team finishes so poorly that the administration throws all the toys out of the cot' and then decides... oh you know, we haven't brought in any blue chip players, the kids are mostly injured all pre-season, and the coach has been here 4 months. But... anything is possible.

If being a young team is stating the bleeding obvious, so is the fact of us being no better than ordinary this year 🤣

I reckon Beery is right, the club has taken away all the low hanging fruit he was planning to write about the club, the return of Hirdy for one, but also how Scott and/or everyone else at the club is delusional about our prospects, how young the team is (stated as a mid-season revelation and excuse after a run of poor games), all that easy stuff. I'm sure he has a few lined up taking shots at the new president too.

What's a poor Essendon supporting hype merchant to do, with 4 hours of television to fill and two(?) columns to write every week?
