Think he made $1 mill, and his advisor told him not to invest.
he invested coz one of the founders was an old skool mate.
The dude(s) who started it was at Little Creatures
Must be great to have disposable income like that.

I would think his advisor would have him borrow the money to invest, write off the costs against the other income and let the bank carry the risk. A bank would throw money at someone bringing in a million a year with a series of existing assets.
I'll ask tomorrow what he did 😂

These sorts of stories show how Ross managed to get so much out of the players, but you can also see how mounting injuries and an influx of young players makes these methods completely untenable.

Yeah every single story about Ross seems to describe all his greatest flaws and strengths.

He demanded perfection and players want to give him perfection but there seems to be a fair bit of intimidation involved to get there. Combined with his natural charisma he gets a lot out of players for a period of time before it all implodes in itself through mental and physical wear and tear. Happened at Saints and happened with us.

Still our best ever coach (JL could be closing pretty quickly at this rate though) but his use by date was up and we had to move on

No doubt Ross would have been a very hard taskmaster but I would 100% bet that there would have been more to it than a single incident like already having question marks over Garrick's work effort at the club.
Sure, but regardless this is clearly a “tactic” and these sorts of psychological tricks have a use by date for many. Players like MDB, Fyfe and Pav could probably thrive under Ross Lyon for their entire careers, but others would eventually snap and plenty would not respond well at all. I still think he could coach a team to multiple premierships, but it would require a large core playing group of very driven personalities.

Yep, If I was Essendon I'd be signing him up just to get a finals win monkey off their back. Who knows how high he could take them, just make sure you cut him loose on the other side of the cliff.

I think if you want to bring hird back in, you could do worse than making him an apprentice to Ross.

3x years of Ross, then a handover to Hird.

(I don’t think they should do either, however if they are so intent in the hird redemption arc, giving him a solid grounding under a ruthless and experienced individual would have to come under consideration)
