Traded Mitch McGovern [traded to Carlton in a three-way trade involving Sydney and McAdam]

Sam McClure... does anyone believe what that clown says?..

Bout as believable as the story running around the adelaide media at the moment that Jeremy McGovern is keen to join his brother at adelaide and was seen viewing potential houses in adelaide just this weekend!!...

And if it was true that he wasn’t happy with the coin he was offered and went and spoke to the club about it... it’s not like adelaide in losing Lever wouldn’t have said “ok, we’ll throw an extra $100-$200 at you”..

But regardless.. he’s contracted till the end of 2020.

SEN news breaker Sam McClure has revealed that Adelaide forward Mitch McGovern is attempting to break his contract for a second time in order to leave the Crows.

McGovern signed a new deal with last year’s Grand Finalist’s until 2020, after being linked with a move back to his home state of Western Australia.

Despite recommitting to Adelaide last year, McClure says the 22-year-old is not happy with the terms of his deal after the Crows signed Bryce Gibbs during last year’s trade period.

“Mitch McGovern is attempting to break his contract, which he’ll try and do for a second at the end of this year,” he told SEN’s Time On.

“Mitch McGovern signed a three-year contract extension in late August of last year, it was only a matter of weeks later that he tried very, very late in the piece to get out of Adelaide and go home to Western Australia or indeed even Victoria.

He (McGovern) is not happy with the deal that he signed, based on the fact that the club told him they had no more money, and then proceeded to go and get Bryce Gibbs from Carlton and pay him more per year than what McGovern is getting now.

My understanding is that Mitch McGovern’s preference is to be playing in Victoria next year, that is on the basis that his brother Jeremy, who is also looking to move clubs, may not be in their home state of Western Australia where both McGovern’s hail from.

McGovern has played 44 games and kicked 65 goals for Adelaide since making his debut in 2016.

Consider who his player manager was I am not surprised , I don't blame him either , more coin to the player more coin to him .

Reports of Crows forward Mitch McGovern starting a player walk-out at Adelaide are dismissed

CROWS forward Mitch McGovern is committed to his new three-year contract at the Adelaide Football Club amid claims the AFL club is facing a player backlash.

McGovern’s Perth-based management has dismissed an SEN radio report on Monday evening that the 23-year-old West Australian wants out of West Lakes to move to a Victorian-based AFL club. North Melbourne is mentioned as the major suitor.

McGovern’s manager Colin Young told The Advertiser on Monday night: “Mitch has not indicated that. We’ve all heard in the past two weeks that players are looking to get out of Adelaide, but to put Mitch McGovern in that group is ridiculous.”

So mitch’s Manager has come out tonight and said it’s a ridiculous lie...

McClure is a lying flog... the afl needs to start stripping some of these ****ing gossip queens of their afl media accreditation... it’s getting beyond a joke.

So it’s a totally baseless lie... and this comment from McClure should’ve been a massive red flag;

“proceeded to go and get Bryce Gibbs from Carlton and pay him more per year than what McGovern is getting now.”

There’s no way McGovern would feel that he’s worth more than Bryce Gibbs!..

I don't care either way, happy if he stays but we deserve whatever pain is sent our way for putting a complete rookie in charge of our entire footy dept. So if he leaves, no biggie. But to suggest that his management could say anything different, regardless of his present thoughts, is naive to the extreme.

Nope.... I think I’ll take his manager’s word (and also take into account the fact that his manager has come out so swiftly to condemn it thus not allow this bullshit to fester for a day or two) over a the word of a gossip queen like McClure every day of the week thanks..

I'm always doubtful of these stories linking pure-blooded West Australians to Victoria. The call of the fatherland cannot be denied.
Yeah, it makes absolutely no sense...

It would be slightly more believable if it was Freo or WC he was being linked to and JMcGovern was either staying at WC or was going to freo and Mitch was planning on joining him at one of these two clubs..

But there’s been a heap of baseless rumours swirling about j McGovern going to adelaide..

Just take one look at the mile long list of absolute baseless rubbish, that never ends up being anywhere near true come trade week, that these media hacks make up year in year out and you realise 99% of what they dribble is absolute crap just to fill pages in the news and time on the airwaves..

Lol so fired up when ITK posters on your own board are saying the story is true.

What ITK posters on the crows board are saying it’s true??... hahaha, they are just as clueless as McClure!.. every clubs board has their bevie of supporters that fall for the media gossip and “apparently” have insider knowledge!..

And the funny thing about the ITK posters is they nearly always get it wrong too.. some of those same ITK crows supporters have been saying on a regular basis for months now that “Sloane is just about to re-sign”... “it’s all but confirmed” they keep telling us all “it’s definately happening this week”!!... then nothing but crickets when their “sources” turn out to be false..

Driving both their prices up for Freo to pay....and i would...and we will (hopefully)... for the next 5 years at least

He's contracted, the Crows hold the upper hand regardless. He needs a new manager if he signed for 3 years and wanted out that quickly. There was always a chance they would go for Gibbs and Lever going wasn't exactly a surprise.
Article screams bullshit to me.

Possible they'll want to trade him if he is unhappy though. They look overloaded with tall forwards and Fogarty will need a spot long term.

Yet every year Adelaide lose a talented young key position player.
The club seems great at recruitment or development or both, but has a culture that many players clearly find toxic. ?????

This^^

Essentially, as a crows supporter, if he doesn’t want to be there then I’d rather they move him on... but as he’s contracted till the end of 2020, 23 years old and shaping up as being a gun forward... he’s gonna cost the club he goes to a packet.

Lever wanted to stay... Lever left because Melbourne offered to pay him $800k a year.. the crows weren’t willing to pay him a cent more than $600 and rightly so.
Dangerfield left because he wanted to come home to live near Moggs and he also gets massive cash in endorsements and media outside his contract.
Cameron left because he wanted to be closer to home and Brisbane also offered him a tidy salary
Davis left for the cash too

All four of these players still have great friends at the club and still keep in contact with the mates they used to play with, including Lever who still talks to many of the crows players and plays some online game with a fair few of them, conversing online and over the phone with them most nights!. I believe Cameron may have even been down just this weekend visiting the lads at the club. I believe Dangerfield is great friends still with many of them and is business partners with tex and Sloane..

This “toxic culture” claim is silly.. we develop blokes into great players and sometimes some of those great players either want to go back to their roots and live where their family and friends do and on every occasion they also end up with even fatter wallets!..

Have you ever looked at the adelaide list and actually seen how many interstate players we currently have before you make a statement like that?.. Go and have a look at it and you’ll actually realise there’s about 15 or so of our top 22 players that are from interstate... in reality the bulk of our interstate players stay at the club.

Mcrouch, bcrouch, Talia, Tex, Mackay, Hartigan, Douglas, Jenkins, Sloane (been there 10 years now), Kelly, McGovern, gallucci... the list goes on of blokes from interstate that have re-signed or stayed at the club for a hell of a long time..

In the meantime we’ve had guys like sauce, Gibbs, Betts, etc requesting to come home and play for the crows...

The “toxic culture” rubbish is another media beat up.. it’s just a fact of life that some players (and more importantly their wives/girlfiends) will always want to return home.. or be lured home by a heap of coin..
