It's not just when your in government you demonstrate your character
Screaming "African gangs" in an election campaign is demonstrating your character for instance.

Again, any cursory recent reading of my posts in this particular thread would demonstrate I thought that was a mistake, and I'd be very surprised if we revisited it at a state level.

Have the Police got their EBA yet? The money they are asking for is being paid to needless upper level bureaucrats and to build a train line between two places you can already catch the train between.

They could have anyone as the opposition leader at the moment and they'd be in front.

As much as we need a new government, if the Libs are still a dog's breakfast come 2 years time, I fear the electorate will get a bit jumpy and vote the incumbents back in again.

They really need a generational change and cast off all the old white noise in the background.
In the current opposition a good proportion of them would manage to still be behind. Matthew Guy would find a way to still be 10 behind

pesutto would have been an integral part of the 'african gangs' attack given his shadow portfolio responsibilities at the time

he would have also been central - and if not central, then involved in some capacity given his seniority within the parliamentary party - in the shameful attacks on the safe schools program

he doesnt deserve any respect

It's more than just that. It's climate change, renewable energy and so on.

Why does the Liberal party have to be continually dragged kicking an screaming to even come up with half arsed policy that meets 2024 and not 2004?

I don't keep blow by blow updates on what the police are doing.

We can already drive from the end of the Eastern to the West Gate. We don't need a road between them.
That's your logic. Yet the Liberals still want EWL

Melbourne is going to be the biggest city in the country. We need infrastructure to match.

That means having more than one way to get places.

This is as much of a response as your post deserves. Victoria is ****ed, I've got 4 years before I can get my hands on my super then I'm back out of here again and this time I won't be back.
you aren’t eddie smiith, are you? he said a decade ago he was leaving - still in victoria.

and allowing peeps easy access to their super is another folly. one which defeats the purpose of it.

No dramas, I won't even look in the mirror.

I've lived here for 36 years, WA for 10 years, Qld for 3 years and NSW/ ACT for 7 years, current Victoria is worse than any other place we've lived and that includes early 90s Victoria.
the take home message seems to be that no state seems to want you.

spot on. they are bereft of leadership. the fact they were apparently considering groth, a first termer, says so much. and the fact that southwick is the best they can do as a deputy leader speaks volumes, too.

a moderate, like pesutto, is what that party needs. as one lib mp said in ‘the guardian”

“If we were still down in the polls, if we still had a primary vote in the 20s, I’d say we do it,” a conservative MP said.

“But to move against him now, with things going the way they are, it would be the biggest own goal. And we’re a party that’s had enough of them to last a lifetime.”

Groth resigned from the front bench so will likely be challenging at some point
The fact that Sam Groth decided to announce his resignation from the Opposition frontbench via the media instead of informing his leader John Pesutto and his colleagues first speak volumes about just how divided the Victorian Liberals are right now. Victorian Premier Jacinta Allen has her perfect Christmas present.

100%

How is it that anyone would contemplate voting Labor right now?

That is, anyone other than rusted-on, ideological Labor voters (which might be 20 or 25% of the electorate)

As much as we need a new government, if the Libs are still a dog's breakfast come 2 years time, I fear the electorate will get a bit jumpy and vote the incumbents back in again.
Yep.

Look at the two parties.

One is a divided mess white anting each other.

One isn't
One's been in charge for almost the entire last 30 years and has led the state into the abysmal mess it's in.

One hasnt.

Not rocket science- for anybody near the centre, or the right.

If you're a rusted on lefty, of course you'll be prioritising Labor until the lights start going off and the hospitals start shutting down. And even then you'll make excuses.

Hasn’t happened in 30 years, do tell us when this apocalypse will happen?

Crazy statement given the Lib's priority seems to be tearing each other apart before caring what Victorians want.

A party with 2 warring factions (like almost every party ever) or a party at war with the people they're governing?

Did the peanut bus crash in front of BigFooty HQ today?

Christ I've read some shit.

Good decision for Moira, well done. Pesutto's position is now untenable and must go, there is a real danger he could lose the next election against one of the worst state Governments in Australian History. Victorians have been battered from pillar to post and it continues with the latest Tim Pallas insanity. However, Pesuto has just given the incompetent Allen government a free kick with a huge 50 metre penalty.
